It may be true, there were very few other attempts with Conroe-L 1MB cache and one core only. In fact, that combination (1 core + 1MB cache) seems to be non-retail at all.
I tested one sample myself, but it had FSB wall @ 265 (air cooling, to add more: Intel BOX :p: ;)).
So the results was not impressive:
