nice setup, but how do you have room to work on your desk?
Big Thanks to voyager on this one, As he donated the P4 631 for testing.
We finally got our hands on a 631 that can clock beyond 320MHz FSB
in my first round of testing I used our Single Stage R290 Phase unit.
We are planing a DI Overclock later 2day to see where we can take her :)
Test Rig:
Mountain Mods Twice 7 Case
NexGen SS R290 Phase Cooler
Koolance 1200W Liquid Cooled PSU
ASUS Commando
ASUS 6600GT
Corsair 1X512MB 6400C4
Western Digital 320KS 16MB Cache
here are the results:
6199.87 MHz P4 631 @ 1.7V
413.32MHz FSB @ 1.5V
826.6MHz RAM @ 2.0V
NB Temp 26c
SB Temp 29c
CPU Temp -15c

Project Log here:http://www.teamnexgen.org/forum/hard...oject-usa.html
Our initial Dry Ice runs have been exciting to say the least... for the first hour we were unable to break 5700MHz @ -55c but after a little tweaking we managed 6420MHz @ -40c 1.775Vcore
We couldn't keep the system stable enough for a validation past 6300MHz
This validation puts us 1 away from the top 10 631 OC
its 4AM and im going to take a nap b4 our next run.

everytime i view this thread, you guys get closer and closer.
getting there...
good luck.
Its been a real battle to find a reliable LN2 source, and it looks like we will be able to bench our 631 with some LN2 later this week.
8GHz Project on Digg.com and Overclockingwiki.org
http://www.OverclockingWiki.org has Diggs our 8GHz project, with a little support it could front page :)
Digg it here:Quote:

Ok, so this is pretty old news by now but I wanted to post about it since I think its quite the project. The guys at Team NexGen are working on overclocking a system to 8Ghz using Liquid Nitrogen cooling and a very specially modified board.
Here's one of the LN2 coolers they may use. For the rest of the photos you'll have to head to their site . There is a small mountain of photos there with most every detail you'd want.

I voted, good luck
Hmm... I wonder how a PD 950 would do with its 17x multiplier and the phase cooler... :)
Got a lil update for everyone on the project :)
We had a chance to play with the latest Intel X38 Chipset and I must say it is simply amazing and if you have cross Fire cards you are going to love this chip!
Here are a few Pics:

Also we managed to reach 8670MHz with our P4 631 @ 1.86Vcore and -185C IHS Temp using Liquid Nitrogen, while we were adjusting to the chips behavior on LN2 we reached a sweet spot and she just kept clocking higher!
after we crashed her on 8.8GHz we installed XP Pro and attempted a validation but were unable to hit the sweet spot.
We used all 30L of LN2 in one run with the 631 so this time we are gearing up once for some more clocking this Sunday, but we will be ready with an install of windows and 180L of LN2 on standby :)
and some pics of the run!

So you're taking pictures @ almost 2ghz higher than you can idle windows? Kick ass :toast:
w00t !
X38 and Yorksfield results under NDA until ?
can't wait
OMFG 8.8GHz!!! Don't create a black hole!
The highest I seem to see, validated, is 6.8GHz...
Where is this 8.6GHz you speak of? I don't even see a BIOS shot of it.
There are some pictures in Teamnexgen.org-forums, which show higher numbers:
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g9...2/DSC04461.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g9...2/DSC04463.jpg
I love how the best overclocks always seem to end up on the worst monitors......
.
.
Well, hell, didn't FUGGER do like 7.2GHz in BIOS about 2 years ago? Is 8GHz even anywhere near Windows stable?
Max bios and max windows are two totally different things.
Yes, and I've yet to see a CPU-Z validation of anything above 6.8GHz. 8.8GHz or whatever in BIOS is pretty irrelevant, and I'm using FUGGER's example to demonstrate that 8GHz in BIOS does not equal 8GHz in Windows. Like afi said, BIOS shots of clockspeeds 2GHz higher than you can do in Windows means pretty much nothing in terms of reaching a world record.
nice clock bro..........thats what we are here for, pushing the boundaries that little bit further than before.....
remember progress starts with small steps, then we can run ;)
Who cares... everyone gave Fugger props for his bios screenshot... give the guy some props.
Sure, 8.8GHz in BIOS is great, but that compared to 6.8GHz valid seems to leave a huge delta to me. I mean, what did Team Italy manage to idle in BIOS if they hit 8GHz valid? 9GHz? :p:
I am just saying.. no need for ppl to harp on him about posting a bios screen shot. Fugger did the same thing and no one harped on him. ... but back to the topic.. keep working at it and good luck.
ehhhh....YES!
And here you are are :)

Also a CPUZ validation :)

I'd prefer to see 8ghz+ in windows ;)
good luck guys on your next big OC
nice job
Did you get more cooling juice for your project yet? im really anxious to see 8ghz in windows
Where I live its really hard to secure a good supply of LN2, so until we can get some more all we can do is play with these new X38 boards :)
Any one got 3 spare 2900 XT's?
I posted a few more pics of the board w/ liquid cooling and posted pics of the bios
http://www.teamnexgen.org/forum/hard...therboard.html
More resulted. They continue
Ahh yes we will always be pushing the limits :)
Got some pics of our new setup and a new CPUZ Validation.
Im having some problems with CPUZ and a Striker Extreme registering about 400MHz lower than actual clock of the CPU Im posting 7.360GHz 320 x 23 in bios and booting to windows but when I run CPUz the FSB reads 17MHz lower to 302FSB I know its not C1E or EIST as they only effect the CPU multi.
Im going to try another board and see what happens.

:) Heck there is a lot of good stuff in those pics .Makes a note to get adress lol.
Despite our LN2 Run being cut short due to a MOSFET blowing we validated at 7015MHz :) a little progress but still, progress. :)

Sweet!!!, keep going dude, you'll get there I'm sure.
Slow and steady wins the race. :)
7GHz is sick enough, but 8 would be awesome!
If Intel said that Netburst architecture could scale to 10GHz, it makes me wonder if they actually did it in their labs, confidential top-secret? With billions of research $$$, I'm sure some of the scientists wanted to play around just a little...
We are still alive and well, time and resources are a bit tight with a double major in college this year but we are still making progress and have a few more side projects that have some interesting results to say the least :D
More to come, soon!
ZZZZzzzz where 8GHz?

Wow, that is retarded! (in a good way)
Congrats man, that is HUGE!
wuuuhaaaa 8 Ghz ... thats wicked
V2-V3 - keep pushing it... i bet yours is just around the corner
Big up
Yes. Not top secret, basic in-lab testing and simulations of CMOS and microprocessor scaling and performance.
Oh and BTW, POST'ing 8GHz is also an achievement as it's not idling but BIOS and any pre-OS environment do not know how to idle the spare CPU cycles, thus, the CPU is always at 75-100% load in BIOS. ;)
Only the first logical CPU though, the rest aren't loaded.
Nordling, you are strong my friend
I will be posting more soon!
We now have a new website to better server Overclocking in all its glory!
www.NexGenOverclocking.com
Great!!! Looking forward to it!:yepp:
I was using one of those 631's to get the feel of my equipment as a first-time builder before I got an E8500 and it feels good to have a model that created the world speed record:cool: GO FOR IT:up:
Max on air for my P4-4.515Ghz @ 1.42Vcc, 1.45Vtt
BTW what's your batch, Spec, etc?
>>>---Currently in front row eating everyone's popcorn;)
Ill go check the batch when i shovel a path to my garage :)
Im currently using my Rampage Extreme with the P4 631 and I cant even get it to oc 1mhz with out failing........
It might be back to the P5K Premium P35 chipset if this keeps up.....
Has any one tried to OC a 65nm cedarmill on an ASUS X48 Rampage Extreme?
Make sure you make a OVP mod if you want to push the maximum out of your Cedar Mill. 2V+ Vcore & full pot of liquid nitrogen is mandatory!
The Commando was a great overclocking board and secured me many world records in the past :)
im thinking about trying P45 has any one had any luck?
Next bard for testing this week will be the Foxconn Black Ops X48 maybe the Rampage Extreme X48 is not capable of overclocking Cedarmill....

So you've made it to 8?
