Well if you set it to 470, and CPU-Z is reporting 470 Id take that over something thats giving you over 4GHz.
I did a 3.9 run and managed it.

Thanks ... What is vcore and vdimm that you set to?
My vcore seems high .....
You're not running 1:1, you're running FSB:DRAM 13:11, probably confusing itQuote:

I maxxed out my vcore, the droop showed 1.55 in XP when bios was set to 1.6 (1.55 is what it dropped to 1.6 was the average).Quote:

Wow, just tested this board under dry ice. This thing has a nasty overvolt whenever it gets cold. Im talking like I would set 1.5 in bios and get 1.62 on reboot. . Very weird board indeed, I will do some more testing tommorow. :)

a review...
sample board
Has anyone who owns this board been able to go beyond DDR2-1000 speeds? If I go beyond DDR2-970, it won't even boot at all. At that point, it's fine, but can't be pushed any further.
In that AnandTech review, they mentioned that DDR2-1066 with 5-6-6 timings on the OCZ Flex ram was possible, but I'm using the same ram and it won't even do DDR2-1000 at 5-6-6.
:-\
Does 650i slow down (1333 strap) after 400 fsb or any other fsb mark?

Shoot .... I'm screw ... The NB heatspreader got extreme hot (could feel the heat when touch it) .... Tried to put 2 little fans on top ... The NB heatsink got loose .... Crapped ..... Removed it and put it back (with AS5) .... Turned on PC ..Fans, hdd ... ran .. but no image to monitor ... CPU still good, RAM still good .... Dead mb ....
bad luck there...next?
howd it get loose?? does it have those little plastic retainers?
NB heatsink is big ... but only has 2 push-pins to attach into mb ... 1 at conner , another at middle ( on the side) ....so if you slightly push on 1 conner (where does not have push pin) .. it pretty much lift the other conner up ...
This board is pretty good for oc .. but bad on design ... No heatsink for SB .. which got really hot when oc .....
It kicks in at 425 fsb.Quote:

It will be interesting to see how the HZ D9 sticks work because Anandtech was seemingly having a similar problem with the OCZ Flex D9s.Quote:

Yea, I checked already. Couppi started a thread but DDTUNG said it had the same/similar controller as the P5N32-E and to check its vcore mod. Ive got my DICE tube mounted on the board right now so I cant check anything around the socket, but someone else should. :)
My P5N-E SLi won't go above 1530fsb, no clue why :/ I tried lowering my CPU multi and raising vcore to 1.4, memory to 2.2 rated.
I'm dying to know if anyone has reached 3-*-*-* with Team Group 6400 4-4-4-10 (or even 5300 3-3-3-8 kit) at 400+. Even more so what the performance implications would be with something like a E6600 @ 9x400 (1:1) with those tight timings.
I've read somewhere (http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...62&articID=472) that the C2D prefetch is so good that you'd be better off going for good latency as opposed to just high bandwidth in real world. This might be hard to bench in synthetics, but it got me thinking.
Sorry if this is a little OT, but Couppi/Trice's posts (and the 650i chipset) are at the center of my thoughts on this.
I'll give this board a shot (assuming we get any in australia)
If it sucks in SLI I'll get the DFI when it comes (mid-Feb?)...unless more info./hardware appears in the next week or three...
MSI P6N (650i) is just around the corner i suspect.
I think so too, but wonder how it will do, bad OC and onboard X-fi :eek:Quote:

oooo...dats nice...i'm going for 6600 so 425 will be plenty / overkill for me; waiting to hear from the e-tailer; i hope gskill 6400hz works on this board - any suggestions for ram???
I hit 3ghz mark yesterday prime stable 10hrs, anyone have an idea why I had to set the NB Voltage up to 1.5....to get it to boot into windows? I know my board undervolts terribly, is this safe though? I threw a box fan on like Letstat said, keeping my mobo @ 32-35c. and the CPU @ 48C-50C under load.
Trice I wanted to ask if maybe you could save a copy of your bios for me. I know it's the same ver. I just wanted to try it for kicks.
Sure but its nothing crazy lol. I just upped the NB to 1.5, vDIMM to 2.2-3 and thats about it. Timings are 4-4-4-12 then rest are AUTO.Quote:

1:1 ratio with a quad pumped FSB?Quote:
I look at it this way. All C2D (minus the X6800) has a stock FSB of 1066. On a 1:1 ratio, that would make your ram DDR2-1066 or PC2-8500. This is a common memory speed now, and -should- work since many people like running a 1:1. As the state of the BIOS stands, buying an enthusiast kit of ram would be a complete waste because you cannot overclock it to your liking.
X6800 also has an fsb of 1066mhz. :slap:Quote:

EDIT: could any of people owning a P5N-E SLI check out for me if the Zalman ZM NB47J would fit on the SB? since ASUS has holes in the PCB but no heatsink
Looks like it may fit. I checked it has 4 holes, that HSF however; doesn't have any holes. I guess you need to mount it with a bracket hole deal?
Btw, wtf is up with my setup lol. It passes prime for 10hrs, and I ran it another 8hrs overnight but yet... Rainbow Six Vegas Froze on me after 2hrs of gaming online and I got a solid beep sound. To follow that, I was watching a DVD movie when i rebooted and the PC froze with a looping sound -.-.

btw the zalman connects with 2 push pins so it might work.

Would an E6300 overclock very well on this board?
Well I just ordered one for £74 all in ($145)
I'm not sure if it was in stock or not though, I guess I'll find out. Another place was showing 5th Jan as in stock date.
Just to confirm, this board definetly has the fully independant fsb/memory setup like its big brother 680i?
Depends what else you have mainly the memory. It does good fsb apparently, so basically yes..Quote:

I'd personally avoid nForce6 for the time being, until a new revision is released. All the problems with 680i (and 650i to some extent) seem more hardware than BIOS related, thus a revision is in order to actually bring stability to nForce6, IMO.
I don't think it's a bad chipset at all, but it's just too hit and miss for my tastes right now. Hopefully the abit IN9-32X will buck the bad trends of the eVGA 680i board, and maybe 650i boards from other manufacturers will improve on memory clocking, board layout, overall stability, etc.
Good luck to all of those with nForce6 boards right now. Not to sound condescending or anything; I really wish you luck with your overclocking endeavors on it. Personally I'll wait to see what R600 has to offer, or if nForce6 improves, before sinking $250 into a high end board, or even $130-140 into a midrange board like this. 975x all the way right now, though. :toast:
so... are you getting the ASUS or a Gigabyte board :confused:Quote:

Is it better than a 965, that's a toss up, but I havn't read anything that bad about it either.Quote:

Temperature in BIOS and Asus Probe II have give same value.
neither, just use your better judgement.
Core Temp measures exactly that. the core, Asus probe measures the temps outside the core.
a conroe has a temp probe built into the core on each core. so core temp and TAT report temps always higher than anything else.
only Speedfan has the ability to read BOTH core temps and cpu temps. and there is almost always a 10c difference or close..
dont worry about it really. but if your super anal about temps, then use TAT not core temp. TAT is found on google or the intel website. it stands for Thermal Analysis Tool. and it also has a cpu stressing program built into it that generates more heat than even Gromacs Core Orthos.
and i couldn't take it anymore my conroe rig has been torn down for 3 weeks now so i been working off my lappy. which i usually use more than my desktop anyways. so i grabbed the 650i.
me and my 6600 ES are gunna make her bleed thats for sure.
I don't think you can run TAT on this board since it does not use Intel chipsets.
well there is no stock in australia, but then there's f all market here anyway, so why bother shipping anything here :moon: :ROTF:Quote:

The gigabyte board seemed to be vapourware and more expensive anyway plus Ive seen no reviews. I ordered the asus though Im no lover for droop, just been told its shipped today :woot:Quote:

And my main point about a revision on these boards is not to improve layout, but to address some of the physical hardware issues/failures we're seeing on the 680i reference boards and some 650i boards. nVidia will call for a revision when it realizes BIOS updates are only spottily fixing problems. Some people have had good results with 680i, and some haven't; I'm not going to take such a big risk of having my new $250 mobo take a dump all over me unless nVidia/eVGA/whoever can prove to me that the failure rate of hardware on these boards is NOT like 40%.Quote:

There's nothing saying a Xeon can't do well in a 650i board, either, as long as the board can hit 500fsb (assuming a Xeon 3040). 975x is just a stronger chipset. Maybe it hits 30 less fsb, but it makes up for it.
if cf runs on 965, then 965 plus 2 x r600 sounds logical to me..if sli is your thing then this p5n-e board is the cheapest option for best performance overall at this point in time IMO.
r600 has no master - will r600 cf work on 965? if so then you'd have soopa graphics with super stable o/c..not that i'm going that way cos i already got an 8800....on the other hand...?:) r600 cf 965 probably strangled by 4x pcie (maybe oc pcie 4x to 6x?) anyway r600 too far away for me
edit: actually i've read that r600 is releasing in u.s. on 22nd January (for a mere 630usd)...RD600 anyone? :ROTF:
I have also run into the 425 fsb wall. The setup im using is: Xeon 3050 (L630 batch A) @ 425 x 8 1.4vcore orthos stable, ocz rev 2 pc 6400 plat @ 4-4-4-15 425 (2.2 vdimm) memtest stable, and using a tuniq tower. Any higher than 425 refuses to be stable at any voltage (chipset voltage @ 1.5v). I am wondering if this has anything to do with the LDT multiplier (can't test it right now as its my friends setup).
Forgot to mention: If you're having trouble overclocking, try putting your ram in the black slots. That worked for me.
For memory overclocking or ocing in general? Thanks.Quote:

y are ram slots like dat? my 939 boardy doesnt boot with ram in alternate slots. yes i know this (re post below) on my board two yellows and two oranges. for dual channel with only 2 sticks my board seems to default to the yellows...i have all 4 filled so it doesnt matter...i am just curious why 1 pair of slots wood be better than the other?
It just depends on the motherboard... if the mobo manufacturer(in this case asus) decides to make every other slot a different channel then thats how you put them in... (yellow and yellow, or black and black, for this asus mobo). Some other manufacturers choose to pair two different channels together as the same color. Not all boards are the same and you have to look at the manual to see where to put your memsticks in for dual channel operation...which means sticks in seperate channels...Quote:

P5N-E sli is now in stock at wholesaler/distro's in NSW; i emailed my favourite e-tailer...hope they find out.
So is it worth to buy that board? I do have e6300 that clocks 7x500 with no problems, and ram also. Will DFI have any board on 650i chipset?
havent heard of one yet...what voltage you neeed on the cpu? i think that is the crucial question.
Has any1 seen the heatsink holes near the vr's/PWM on p5n-e? Do they get hot / is there a hsink that fits there?
if I where you, i'd do a custom job. get some thermal compound, and old P2 heatsink, and cut it apart. then just stick em to the PWM's
this would probably fitQuote:

wow; i just stuck another 80mm fan next to the 120 on my cpu sink and cpu temp went down from 39 to 33 degrees idle. :) PWMIC also at 33
mm checked agin much later only 36 idle....ninja might git some more degrees?
i'm a bit worried now...c2d is hotter than a64 i think.

Another question though, is there another software then Ntune to suse when overclocking in windows with this board. Cuz that one crashes as soon as I try to open the "adjust motherboard" thinge. Automatic adjustment seems to work pretty fine, but I need to manually overclock, I just dont trust it otherwise ;)
