You can probably solder across them too, so the electricity takes the path of least resistance, meaning the LEDs shouldn't light.

Hey is it possible to change the fans on these, and if so would you guys think it would be hard?
change them for quieter fans or more cfm? if you want more cooling i would suggest cutting away the grill since no matter what fans you put in there the grill will still be holding them back. or you could just jimmy a mount for a standalone fan.Quote:

as for removing the fans i'm not sure if the tabs holding the fans are removable and well.. i'm too lazy to open up my pc case.. :p:

It looks possible, if you take the screws off of the left bracket it might come out, letting the fan slide out horizontally under the tabs (if that makes sense)
I really don't see a point to this product with that grill.. rubber bands and 2x60mm fans ftw
Finally got tired of waiting for more reviews and purchased this. I'm sorely disappointed. The thing is noiser than both the antec solution and my previous Corsair Dominator fans. The mounting solution was not as secure as the Corsair Dominator fan. I'd suggest reworking it to a similar springy clamp manner in which CD did theirs.
The noise could only be alleviated by severely undervolting the them to the point where barely any air is pushed.
However, the biggest deal breaker for me is that they will not fit over Corsair Dominator ram sticks. You're basically looking at using only naked sticks or those with simple heat spreaders that don't have much of a vertical profile.
The only positive thing I can say is that it fulfills the bling value.
In the future I suggest that OCZ:
1) improve the mounting mechanism (needs less give)
2) raise the vertical clearance (let's face it, corsair owns the enthusiast RAM market and not giving enough clearance for Dominator's will cut down on your user base)
3) either increase the size of the fans to 80mm or get thicker 60mm fans so that these things can push some air at lower noise levels
4) improve airflow through the grill. The grill is too close, resulting in turbulence (more noise) and creating deadspots .
You guys have been innovative in the past. I think this first version is a miss, but if you can work on those 4 things, I have confidence OCZ can make a sure fire hit.
thanks for sharing your findings. If the OCZ is out of the question, which would you recommend since it states you used both the Antec Cool Spot and the Corsair Dominator?
Either will be fine, but my preference is for the corsair dominator fan since it doesn't interfere with all of my water cooling tubes (I run 2 loops with 2 pumps, 2 res, 5 water blocks and 3 radiators = lots of tubing). The good thing about the Cool Spot is that you can always reuse it for something else in case something else needs cooling in the future. Both offer similar performance and noise levels on both are very similar.Quote:

ranker there are adequate reviews here and online on everything you said about the ocz so you really should have known that they wouldn't fit and how loud they are is really is up to the case, ambient, hearer, etc so a review can only do so much there (listing dba). i can't hear mine over my 8800gtx fan @80% but my closed case is under my desk so that helps a bit.
did you try using the divided bracket legs and tightening only 1 screw then the other once it's on?
i agree with you that the grill and fans are limiting but aside from the noise you encountered you don't need alot of air for ram unless you volting to 2.8~ then i would jimmy a mount for stand alone fan.
ocz could have done better but it's quite reasonable for the 20$ i paid for it. it's good for someone using a stable 24/7 oc, maybe not someone benching, maxing out their ram. that's my opinion on them anyway

I ended up throwing it on an older computer just to put it to use. Hopefully OCZ can put out a better product with the next revision: 1) Bigger fan, lower speed = more CFM @ less noise 2) reduce turbulence with a less restrictive grill 3) mimic Corsair's mounting mechanism.

I know the fans are removable and that the coolers height is about 23mm, but I don't know if there are any connectors that need space or any other things. Also, I don't know how the two fans are powered by one cable.
EDIT: Forget I asked anything! 23mm is the height dimension with brackets. I guess that concludes that no fan bigger than 60x60x10mm will fit there.

They move air towards the memory modules.
So what's the latest word on these? I was thinking of picking one up and/or an Antec Spot Cool. I'm going to be installing a G.Skill PC8000 4GB kit in my IP35-E tonight in the quest for 4GHz+ on my E8400. I also run an 8800 GT. Anyone know if there will be clearance problems? Should I just go for the Spot Cool and angle it over both RAM/NB HS? I'd like to do both for maximum cooling if possible.

it is Asus Maximus Extreme Mobo and as you see on my pic.'s, there is very little space between gfx card's componets what are soldered on it's pcb
and ram cooler's lower mounting clip - it is approx 2 ~3 millimeters only !!
just remenber that clips are also metallic as its frame and in case of falied mounting or what ever if it got loose and may attach the cards pcb/devices and 'short' the electric circuit .. shortly just may blow your card or following .. ) maibe have to use some isolating material or something to secure the clearance there !
if using the topmost PCI-E slot there, i cannot use the thumb screw, just used an other (normal screw) included in box for mounting lower clip ( did it on the table .. cooler device out of the case) and finally tighten it inside with upper thumbscrew .. also had to pull out the gfx card, and hdd rack, there is also a lil' issue with main power connector had to use some force to bend away these wires to make the cooler fit properly ..
so far it is OK :) but actually these to 2 fans(60mm) are a lil' audible on stock speeds ( ~3400rpm ) so i just used fan controlling options via asus bios to take down the rpm's ~ someth. at 70% or so, now @~2600~2800 it is normal. Led's are quite bright but i don't care about them :) i mostly run mi rig with side panels closed :)
i don't have any sensors on rams, but was runnunig my G.Skill F3-10600CL8D-2GBH (DDR3-1333 PC3-10600@ quite HOT on 1600(DDR3-@800) 1.85v or even higher speed and voltage - but after added this cooler - they feel 'tepid' lukewarm .. if touching with fingers :)
what thickness are the stock fans so I can replace em.
Looking at other 60MM fans you can buy, my guess it 60x10MM.
The only thing I don't like about this RAM cooler is it looks restrictive.

My OCZ XTC arrive today, but it have a problem because It at 12v go at 1250rpm... and It has starting pushing with finger..or it no work....
