You should be able to fold fine with this. It is not linux based, but Windows based (not sure which version as of yet).Quote:

Side note what version is it being modded or modeled from? 2k3, xp, vista, blackcomb (like 2k3 but newer) etc?

I'd like to try it too. Count me in :).
Lets petition for a new policy rule to say if you sign up for XS forums you must have an extra HD to Beta Test the XS OS's.
NO, but I do request just a 2GB partition for testingQuote:

You should update the first post if you require 2 gigs instead of 1.5 or better.

Count me in thanks.
This time I'll actually do some testing and report back. I was a little busy when V2.0 came out. Now I can't wait for this one :)
I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but I searched and came up with nothing.
How do the legalities of this work? Can you really toy with/alter MS code? I would think in one of their EULA's they would have a clause about that?
If not, great
:shocked:Quote:

bad news: xsos 2 ruined my boot.ini on my main xp installation. but fixed :D
Count me in.....
I have two A64 X2 desktops to toy with aswell as a Core Duo laptop with SATA RAID for testing
we are covered under a few license agreements.Quote:

As such OUR EULA specifies you are free to USE, distribute, and Share the Operating System provided it is freely given away and that it is not issued in a corporate environment Aka IBM can't use XSOS but Mom&Pop Computer stores are allowed to use it freely for whatever.
<3. When is v3.0 gonna be done? I got blue balls:eek2:
Calm down man, its an OS, not a naked chick in front of you.;)Quote:

I think they let him do it and help him cuz he seems to be able to build a more efficient OS than they ever could and when time is right they're gonna send him to the aliens and pretend nothing happened. :D *sarcasm*
If you succeed I'll use it as an alternative for Vista, I might even change XP with this, great Job ;).
PS.To bad I ca try the Beta version, I have a Connection similar to ADSL ( 56 kb/s max 128 kb/s) :(
Actually I know I canQuote:

Even Dial up is sufficient for Beta testers.
I said this really just F'in around. I thought it was a VERY unrealistic comment...now I don't know what is real and unreal now, thanks nn, lol.Quote:

basically we are attempting to set of a short list of testers. Who will be issued a version (or More) for which they test their normal day to day applications, such as video games, media players, web browsers, firewalls, and the like.Quote:

Are there any screen shots? I want to see what it looks like.
think this http://wowgame.free.fr/temp/BenchOS-2.jpg
but with alot of changes to how it works.
i would really like to be one of the beta testers! shoot me a pm :)
How did you get Windows source code? So what are the differences between XSOS and Windows?
windows is DOS based, XSOS is Unix based
Windows is about User friendly, XSOS is about performance and features.
Windows Supports DRM and trusted Platform, we believe it is a violation of individual rights.
Windows is about making alot of money, XSOS is about helping people out.
Windows will cost you hundreds of dollars retail, XSOS is free to share, Use and distribute.

This sounds great!!! cant wait to test it :D
Unix based:eek: Holy shi+.
I got three empty partitions, and a 4GB flash drive to help test these nn, so send ALL your versions to me!!!
So you mentioned that you had to agree with M$ to make the code closed right? So us laymen can't beat up your OS ourselves:stick:
if you would like to make an OS better than our, please go for it. It'll make things more interesting. :toast:Quote:

well XSOS like windows is skin able, so that if you would like you can design a different appearance for it. So if you have any graphic art you would like us to look at, let me know and we will consider it.Quote:

Include this as an alternate for those who want the authentic vista look. Maybe?
Possibly but then again it isn't completely impossible for a later XSOS edition have our version of Aero
then how the hell will I be able to run 3dmark....
For people who want a different looking windows nn_step said it should be compatible with most windows programs that means Astonshell and other shell altering programs should work fine for you.
Oh shiz, think of having the GUI look like Vista, cept kinda dark and cunning, and where the start button is (windows button now) it would be a sick 3D-like X. I think I will try to put something together. Has anyone else submitted anything to ya nn?
Thus far we have had a couple backrounds submitted but no icon work
id love to try it out...looks great
but is it XSOS Windows programs/apps/games compatible? Since it is Unix based...
