Coolaler, m8 could you please test max FSB on a E6600 or something please :)

Does someone know if it is a bios problem or something else that is holding the FSB back on this board? The EVGA board seems to do well.:(
I would also like to know the max FSB on a core2 duo, any of them.
Thats the only thing thats holding me back from pre-ordering one right now, layout looks good, voltages look great, if the bios is anything like the AMD version (Crosshair) then its prolly got a great bios as well.
If you get the time, please test with a dual core.
Thank You in advance.
I just remembered that someone said that it was becasue of the quad core. For some reason I thought coolaler's first post was with a x6800 c2d. :slap:

it isn't a picture of asus ;)
I want MAX FSB
ok, noone else seems to have noticed a lot of things so I will just go ahead and say them
1) Coolaler, why does your Striker have only one set of heatpipes and not the double assembly in the retail pics and that other guy's photos?
for example, the heatpipe OVER THE ATX 12v plug is not present on coolalers board.
Did he have to remove it to fit his Tuniq?
2) Coolaers board has blue SATA plugs wheras the other guys has dark purple ones.
3) The voltage options are nice, but the mem timings available are the same as the eVGA
4) Why does Coolaler's have a piece of tissue paper over one of the ICs by his NB. and WHERE is The heatpipe assembly ?
5) The board does not appear to have digital VRM, im unsure though...the coils are RIO R27
6) The board appears to come retail with temp sensor equipment that can be connected via headers to the mobo itself ( retail bundle shot , top left )
If i had to guess why the differences, id say Engineering Sample vrs Retail boardQuote:

Very fine mobo and I was very impressed by the beautiful pics, but until now I did not see any "strong" overclock test.
Wich is the maximum FSB overclock for this mobo? The EVGA 680i mobo can run at 520-530 MHz FSB, and what about this?
I am very anxious to know the max FSB!
ditto!!Quote:

EVGA seems really easy to fit phase. I just really need the new bios to come out one of these days. Luckily it is going to happen here pretty quick, as retail C2D Quad has same problems with FSB.

but wheeeeeeeeennnnnn?
give me a date:a day,a week,a month,an eternity!??!
EVGA is being VERY stingy on letting anyone have the bios to test out other than the couple review sites, unlike Asus where beta bioses are always available. It's little things like this that make the difference. :rolleyes:Quote:

Coolaler,
You need to be using the 0402 BIOS with the Kentsfield. ;)
Does the Striker have these backplate issues like the reference models do?

I had to add extra padding on my tuniq tower backplate. So stupid...Quote:

Coolaler since you have tested both the Abit IN9-32X-MAX and the Asus 680i Striker Extreme I have the naive question which is best for overclocking a E6600 (I know you may not have tested both boards with a Core 2 Duo (4MB) but please give a hint?
Is anyone getting higher FSB on kentsfield yet?
yeah good point since that's the chip most of us have.the quad is not impressive thoQuote:

Does anyone know if the nTune utility works with the Asus 680i boards as well? Or do they just work with the reference designs like EVGA and BFG?
did you set affinity for each super pi?
Very nice board, very very nice, lots of features.
Glad to see ASUS setting the new standard, they kinda wanted to beat DFI and they managed to do that with style.
Nice features I agree, however i wouldnt say beaten yet at this point, the board doesnt seem to overclock worth a damn right now, which leaves me to beleave why its taking DFI so long on their board, if you think about it, DFI should have had the first board out since they scrapped the 590 chipset and began working on the 680i quite a while ago.Quote:

Even the EVGA retail boards dont seem to overclock all that well, most being stuck at 450 which isnt to to bad, but 333 for a $400.00 board is sad, mine as well buy the 590 chipset and save a couple hundred bucks at that point. I hope that things will change with some new more mature bios.
Have BIOS ever done THAT much though? I mean its not like its going to go oh hey 50MHz more on overclock!
I haven't seen coolaler gone higher than 333fsb on any of his runs. Usually we would see max fsb as one of the tests.
Too True, ASUS boards are some of the best overclockers around, not to mention they also look good :cool:Quote:

coolaler,
i may have missed it but what exactly does the lighting in the back look like? is it just that lightbulb thing? it's supposed to make plugging in things easier in the back...
He doesnt have the faceplate on, either the faceplate lights up or its led's backlighting the faceplate (prolly more likly) Not much point in messing with a faceplate though if you have it on a bench like he does.Quote:

Apparently, all reports indicate that Allendale does over 500MHz FSB, but Conroe and Kentsfield do around 400MHz FSB. Not a great result, but...hopefully will improve in time.
nice biose options . coolaler , doese this board have the wierd reboot when high fsb? like all other asus boards?
yup coolaler.. please use your LxxxBxxxx E6600.. :D and lets see some high fsb.. :D
that board looks slick.. when is it officially out? I see a lot of pre-order info on it but no expected in stock dates... this is the one I will make the switch for.. good bye i975x *sniffle* heh
I'm impatiently waiting as well. Looking on some sites it may be tommorow or the 15th.
Really sexy board, too bad ASUS didnt do this with the 965 or 975.
the 680i just doesnt do it for me.
The complement are some take off picture of Striker Extreme.

It says NF590?
Man, very nice board layout from ASUS (apart from the heatpipe rollercoaster)
Yeah I second that.
It would be either this or the EVGA for me.
I think the EVGA just buys it - looks a fantastic board.
Thanks for the review Coolaler. ;)
Maybe a same chip off the NF590 - remember these boards are more of a mod than a complete overhaul.Quote:

maybe it is just "funny useless" heatpipes and LED stuff... and it cost additional 100$...
what do you think? is it worth 339$?
I realize your asking Coolaler this question, but i thought i would throw in my 2 cents. For me its worth it, i hated spending 400 bucks on a board, but the evga, bfg etc reference design is not for me.Quote:

3. I really hate the place they put the front panel connection on the reference board, its in the way of my water pump, and very close to my hard drive cage.
4. I like the esata ports on the back of the striker.
A bunch of little things that just add up, so for me i rather have the striker over the other boards, the p5n32-e board looks like a nice one as well, but people was reporting 1.6v vcore in bios and then the droop on top of it, thats not enough voltage for me, striker is reported to be 1.9v, so at least with the droop its still decent. You can easly mod the p5n32-e and get the voltage you need and save quite a bit of money, but seriously, if you buy a 300.00+ board, you shouldnt have to mod the stupid thing on top of it. I think for air or water cooling, the p5n32-e is a great board, and for phase change, the striker. At least right now with what people are reporting for voltages.
My striker was shipped today, ask me next week if i still have the same opinion.
Just my 2 cents, take it with a grain of salt if you'd like.
EDIT: nvm, i found the new C2D thread...
zemzelett, thank you for your opinion :)
I didn't use phase-change or etc. Maybe the water will be right way for me.
The most imortant things on this board for me: stable voltage for CPU and memory, and high FSB. If Striker can't hit 500MHz - it's not worth 339-410$ :(
For AMD case: if you spend extra money on DFI SLI-D rev.AD0 or Expert boards - you can get high FSB and stable voltages.
I order Striker for 345$... still waiting :(
@nilsen Its seems that the striker also suffers from totally bogus vdroop. I couldnt find it on this thread and a striker user ddescribed something like:
1.5vcore bios/1.46windows/1.42under load. Thats just horrible! Andre yang answered my question.

They haven't bothered to just run 3DM or superpi, they have actually used the system for real world applications and discovered that this system doesn't preform as it's speced to and that's an attrocious discovery.
How a product can be so hyped by reviewers and testers yet is completely flawed in it's current state is appaling. People realy need to be informed that 680i is not all it's cracked up to be as it stands atm.
