Unlike SLi, in Crossfire each card has to be OC independantly. BTW that's just one CARD I haven't removed the HSF for the other one, but been the same exact model should be the same, I hope. I gonna have to remove the HSF anyway because I need the replace it with a Zalman VF900Cu. What the brand of your X1950Pros?Quote:

If things were to work properly (I say this becasue even with ATiTool25Beta14 things aren't working as I though they would) with ATiTool you click on settings and you'll see that you can switch cards and then OC each one individually.Quote:

Edit: Also, I did measured the voltage for the gpu and memory. Both measured @ 1.4v for the gpu and 2.08v for the mem. Which tells me that we should get some moderate OCs of these.

CATS 6.11 work quite well, I just think because they have Digital PWMs might hange things a bit and a unique OC proggy may need to be created. As far price variance, well yes it's just the name. Remember the Sapphire makes the PCB's for ATi.Quote:

Like was mentioned at the start of the thread, I get odd results in 3dm01.
Sometimes hit 28000 points, sometimes 31000 points. Re-running the app straight after the 1st result is shown.
Must be a driver issue as these cards are still new-ish. Im using the latest 6.11 drivers.
Seems a low score for a 4000+ at 3.1ghz (250mhz@ 7,2,2,2), dfi ultraD.

What's up fellas....I experience some of the same issues described here. I FINALLY was added to the forums woo hoo. I can set the clocks in Overdrive, but when I go bench with 3dmark, the screen goes black. On top of this, I can't even get the card to clock past 594 MHz without the same result (black screen). I've tried turning off VPU recover too. I ordered a VF900 Cu from newegg.com today, so this may help. BTW Nicepun, love the avatar! I really just wanted to collaborate with you guys, as I see that there is a good convo going on here about our cards and whatnot.
Also, when I set the clocks to 594 MHz, I have had games crash at even this clock.....it is the heat I'm pretty sure, because when I go to the 3d renderer in ATI Tray Tools and scan for artifacts, the temps will climb until around 74, and I've even added Arctic 5. I have a stock HP MOBO, and the stock case, so could these be the culprit? Nicepun, let me know what your temp ranges are if that's cool......usually I idle at 47-8C, but I left my heat off while at work, and I'm idling now at 40C! The environment temp is 35C. I usually load on games at max 65C, but I can get higher when I heat the card up via ATI Tray tools artifact scanner. Anyways I'm tired of typing, just a lot of stuff on my mind.

Well so far I've been able to do 621/1512 on both cards (using ATiTool25Beta14). Anything more on the mem on either cards and system freezes, anything above that on the core and I get same results. I'll be posting results tonight after I put my daughter to bed.
Hmmm...I have NOT had the probs you all are describing. I have the Sapphires running 6.11 Cats with VF900's. I do GPU folding all day long & my cards never exceed 45C.
I can OC the core to 621 and mem to 766 & it will run thru any benchy without crashing or locking up. I use CCC for OC'ing...I bought these awhile ago when they 1st came out. Sorry to hear about the probs you are all having. Nicepun...I am interested in your results. My CF seems to be running problem free.:toast:

idle for me at 648/830 is 42c using the stock asuis cooler
its definitely your load temps on the single slot cooler. get that VF900 Cu on there asap
I have the same problem too. I've just bought a sapphire x1950pro card and I'm using 6.12 beta drivers and when I try to overclock the memory on the Ati Overdrive memory clocks stay the same. I' tryed ati tray tools but it only decreases memory speed (I think it has a bug due to ddr and ddr3 contage). On ati tools 25 beta 16 the system freezes as I increment 1 mhz on memory. There is no problem overclocking the core but I can't figure out why memory can't increase:( .
btw- my temps are 38º idle and 66º full

You fellas using Winclock: how do you get it to set the clocks on Windows startup? I didn't think that you could.....I sent a support ticket to Sapphire requiesting the heatsink for the VRMs, they didn't include it on the regular X1950 Pro, but they have it on the ultimate.....they better give it to me! SO many other people are having issues with this card overheating and the black screen. I guess Nicepun has some good case airflow, assuming that you don't have any heatsinks installed on the VRMs.

Hey Dak, you should be getting around 9.4k in 06. How are you OCing your cards? I OC one with Overdrive and the other one with ATiTool25Beta14. Then again it looks like these cards are pickey so what might work for some might not work for others. I will try to get 10K in 06 w/o tweaks, but I'm waiting on a new mobo because I think this one is defective cuz I can't run 1:1 so I can OC my processor to about 3.95Ghz/4Ghz.Quote:

for 2k1 your score is dependent on the cpu so yes, having a c2d is going to give you much higher scores.Quote:

If I won't get this card running at 750 Mhz I won't be satisfied. I have so good cooling on core, that it shouldn't be a problem if I can get VRMs cooled well and vgpu raised.
I had 6800GS @ 600/1200 ... stock core was 425 Mhz.

I don't understand why Sapphire or other manufacturers dropped these out!? On Club3D there are only heatspreaders. I say that kind of sink is mandatory!!
Well I installed the VF900 tonight, and guess what the result was? Black screen crashes on stock clocks. This is becuase of naked VRMs, I'm assuming, so I am RMAing my card tommorow and buying the Powercolor 512 Mb X1950 Pro. I have spoken with several people from overclock.net with this card (256 Mb version) and they have no issues with this at all. This really has pissed me off, and I don't think that I will trust Sapphire for a while. I mean, they are a good company, but the fact that some of their X1950 Pros can't even run at spec, and when I install a more than adequate cooling solution, the VF900 with RAMsinks, and I can't even access the Catalyst Control Center without my PC black screen crashing, well then this is just utter crap. The Sapphire tech support had the nerve to simply suggest that I buy a cooling fan, and ALSO buy a RAMsink kit to fix their mistake from the factory, when they could have simply sent a VRM sink that is availible on the new Ultimate model. Well goodbye and good riddance Sapphire, Powercolor, here I come. BTW the person that I "spoke" with has successfully reached an OC of 665/797 with the stock A2 Acclero Cooler.
Maybe you just :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed up? Cards don't like static electricity, scratched traces and thermal paste on SMD caps (depending on the paste). I don't believe that punny little heatsink is much better than running naked, certainly with the better airflow with the VF900 over the card. And the card is even running in idle.Quote:

Same thing here, I guess it's the whole thing with P5B DLX not supporting the X1950 Pro in Crossfire because it doesn't do internal writes. I e-mailed Ati after I bought my 2 Sapphire cards, and the answear I got back was that he was suprised that I could even activate Crossfire at all. Cause the P5B DLX and other 965 boards don't support Crossfire with the X1950 Pro (This was before I knew that, even says it in the Cat 6.11 releasenotes but I managed to miss it).Quote:

Hey, let me know how that HIS turns out; I'm going to order one tommorow or Monday, funds permitting. I just RMAd my Sapphire today, becuase of the black screen issue....at first it was only happening on OCing, but lately it has happened after playing for a while at stock clocks. This occured with the stock cooler. I do realize that the naked VRMs were the reason that the card was giving black screens: I was simply making the point that I followed what Sapphire tech support instructed me to do, and it faiiled horriblly LMAO! (I can now laugh about it now that I am no longer blind with rage!)

DOH! Oh well, my RAM, mobo, and CPU would bottleneck both cards anyway. Does the X1950 XT have native Crossfire support? Soker, that is a good score! I only had 9021 with my old Sapphire X1950 Pro. On the other hand you have a c3duo, much better than my CPU. I still have some Swiftech RAMsinks coming in the mail on Monday, so I really don't know WTF I'm going to do with those.....maybe put them on my mobo VRMs. I'm ordering a DFI Lanparty CFX3200 as soon as my other X1950 Pro RMA gets to newegg. You guys have any idea as to which IC chips that I should cool with these chips? I don't really think that there is any "stone left unturned" by HIS as far as cooling is concerned.

I have spoken (so to speak) with a reputable OCer that is currently using them with his Sapphire X1950 Pro, and has achieved an OC of around 650/760 using these on his VRMs, and I think the memory as well. He also has watercooling, but the core temp isn't the limiting factor, the VRMs temps are.

No, its not Windows Vista (Vista can run 3dmark 06 and actually I got also the same scores (maybe 100 points less... but that was predictable).
No, I havent tried the 612 drivers but as Binormalkilla said, I doubt they beat Warcat XG Drivers.
Also, we dont have CF cards, so, I will stay with these.

To tell you the truth I'm getting tired of waiting on a solution for these cards and I may just sell them and go for two x1950xts.

I was as frustrated as you, so I got the HIS. It is a really sweet card, so if you RMA, go with the HIS. Unless you can afford those X1950XTs, I can't remember how much more they are.
They start at 250 on newegg, up to around 300.
How do the HIS OC compaired to the Sapphire. Also, the reason for my frustation is the lack of OC proggies. The latest ATiTool supports all cards, even nVidias, except the X1950Pro...:slapass: , then again for the price of two X1950XT I can get a 8800GTS or even 8800GTX.Quote:

1) It is _ABSOLUTELY_ no related to memory timings. It is related to buggy ATI VGA BIOS and not reading the documentation, which clearly says about it and provides a workaround:
Due to VGA BIOS specifics memory clock frequency of all currently shipped RV560/RV570 display adapters cannot be changed any third party low-level overclocking tool using VGA BIOS overclocking methods without causing immediate display image corruption and subsequent system hang. The only currently known workaround is controlling the clocks by means of the Catalyst driver to control the clocks instead of VGA BIOS. This mode can be activated by power users by setting EnableDriverLevelClockControl registry entry to 1.
2) Don't expect to get it working in RT for the second card, if it doesn't work in WinClk. Low-level o/c won't work due to BIOS issues. And driver-level workaround, which is implemented in WinClk (and can be also enabled in RT by using EnableDriverLevelClockControl) depends on ATI Catalyst's possibilities. And the Catatlyst's own overclocking interfaces are _terrible_ and not dedicated for Crossfire mode at all.
Meaning that we're still SOL!!!! Well I think I'm just going to sell them and get a 8800GTS with the Dell deal which will be around $400 shipped.Quote:

And ATI Demo The Assassin is excellent stability testing tool!! I finally got two Zalman ZM-RHS1 sets of 8 memsinks. I attached the higher ones to memory and used the extra thermal tapes to connect that black sink that was constantly falling off from VRMs (stupid idea to use hot glue :nono: ).
Now I can pass The Assassin demo at 661/1480 which before gave me a black screen!! I also did some easy soldering work, small drop of solder (frustrated to wait conductive ink) so my Vgpu is now 1.266V (before 1.25V). Used this picture, soldered the point that should give 1.32V.

I haven't OCed the HIS just yet, but I will keep you posted on this. If you guys haven't tried it yet, the new ATI Tray Tools Beta version supposedly supports the RV570 core, but I don't know about the memory for the X1950 Pros.
Well, Im working right now at 670/770 without problems overclocking with ATI Tray Tools (not even a problem, even ATI tools , Overdrive and Wincklck didnt work for me, ahh, also Tried Riva Tuner).
My ram need some ramskins and then Im overclocking it more.
Core Still can go higher with Water Block (thanks to temps, But Im afraid im almost touching the point where i need more voltage).
Have you tried all night stability with 3DMark06 or the Assassin demo?Quote:

i think i've just found out why my cards clock so badly comparedt to other peoples...
just dug out the multimeter and testing one of the cards, it seems that it's only getting around 1.2V :(
anyone have any experience with voltmodding the reference ati cards?
the placement of resistors seems slightly different to the pictures in the guides i've seen so far

Well my friends I'm afraid I decided to part out. I bought a 8800GTS from Dell for $400 Shipped. I'll be selling one of the X1950 Pros, the other one will be going to my Back-up Rig. My Back-up Rig has a 7900GTX and that will go on sale as well. I just got tired of tinkering and not having a definate solution. It was fun while it lasted. Adios Muchacho!!!

That multimeter is reading on around %3 error, so that seems right to me.....

I'm not sure if you guys have seen this, nor do I know if the Powercolor PCB is the same as most of the X1950 Pros (has the Rage Theater chip), but here are some voltage mods with pics for the resistor soldering points.

It shows that they could get it up to 1.85V and from this article the Powercolor's voltage profile reads:
GPU defaults at about 1.28V and memory at about 2.08V.
Well, downloaded Toy Shop and Assasins Demos.
Both of them runned without problems at 665/1465.
Runned 5 loops each one without artifacts, crashes or something like that.
I really doubt I have stability problems since I have been playing for hours demanding games like FEAR and I have runned several 3dmark 06 and 05 loops.
according to uni-trend (UNI-T model UT60E), this meter is rated as having better than 1% accuracy

i think the arrangement of bridges on my cards are giving them lower voltage - also showing in the non existant overclocking abilities
other cards are able to get much higher than 601 on the core
i'm a little unsure about trying the voltmods because the little bridges or whatever are in different places to the ones shown at vr-zone or pcmasters.de
[edit] after thinking about it i might just leave it as is :(
i think i'd have to break out the soldering iron to move some of the bridges around to give myself more options :shrug:
I'm not going to mess around with physical volt mods until it is a last resort....surely ATI Tool or Tray Tools will support upping the voltage on the card sometime in the future.
Also, it could be that different vendors have different voltages going through the core or memory, as the PCB is different, sometimes VERY different on some.
