Hi Andre -
Just want to clairify: Ver 1.02G will have Vmch adjustments?
Also, is this an 8 phase board, like the current P5B-DLX?
I didn't see power phases mentioned on Asus' site, & can't tell from the pics.
(I hate to make an assumption)
Thanks.

Damn. Well, I'm crossing my fingers that the one I just ordered is a new one, but seeing as how it's not quite October yet, that's unlikely. I guess I'll have to get the soldering iron ready.Quote:

The 1.02G allows up to 1.7V on the MCH. The board will marketed under a different brand name, probably P5B- E SE or something like it. So far I have hit 6x590 with it, not stable but trying for 600. 550 should be stable on this board in the end. :DQuote:

I just got my board and it is indeed the 1.01G :( I'm still debating on even using it, being that I shelled out a good deal of cash for some OCZ PC8000 Platinum XTC. 2.1v isn't going to be enough to push these things....
I took a peek at the chipset, and to add insult to injury the NB is a C1 according to the S-Spec. :-/
I ALMOST picked one up... thinking it was a C2 rev NB... now I'm SOOOOO glad I didn't.
Best mid priced Conroe board is certainly still 965P-DS3 from ewiz for <$150 shipped.
Hi,
what is the lowest adjustable vcore in the bios?

It's not different name. It's just different from PCB Rev. 1.01G and 1.02G.
1.01G is not MCH voltage on BIOS.
When will the 1.02G version of this be available?
I like the lay out of this board, has just what I need, looks like it would be great for water cooling.(No heat pipe coolers).
Been looking for Core 2 board to run a E6600@3.6 for 2 weeks now. Think I found it.
The Abit AW9D-Max looks good to but it has the heatpipe cooler. Don't want hack up the cooler, makes resale hard later..
No issues at all, on the 1.01G boards I just run it up to around 500~505 without issue. On the 1.02G boards I have to increase the MCH Voltage (not available on the 1.01G) starting around 400 but have hit 550FSB on it to date, just not stable yet.Quote:

2GB 2x1 OCZ PC8000 Plat XTC
1.4500 Vcore
2.1 VDimm
1.3-1.45 FSB Term V (tested all three settings)
tested DRAM timings by SPD and hardcoded to 5-5-5-15 with loose subtimings.
PCI-E:100Mhz
PCI Lock: 33.3
Spread Spect: Disable
All thermal control options: Disable
Top "stable" FSB: ("Stable"=Memtest x86 plus pass with no errors for at least 4 hrs)
2:3 Mem: 354
4:5 Mem: 340
1:1 Mem: 341
Replaced the thermal material on the NB with AS5... made no difference.
Why would slower ram settings = lesser stability? Did I just get an completely bum board?
Just use one ram stick for further testing ...
Gary
What is the overclocking limit of your E6600?
I am considering either wait for P5B-E 1.02G or buy P5B Deluxe.Quote:

Thanks!
Is there a vmch mod for the P5B-E 1.01g?
I need a new board, fast. And my reseller only has a 1.01g...
I have contacted Asus, hit 9x370 stable 1:1, nothing more after it,no issue with the board posting at 9x425, it is not stable until I hit 9x370 or so.Quote:

I didn't even bother to look before since they labled that one as release. I've now flashed the board with the 0306 and I've tested memtest stable sofar @ 390FSB.
I'll post further results after I get my overall system speed worked out. I will say, however, that this thing is in serious need of a VDROOP mod. When set to 1.5250 in the BIOS the voltage dips down to 1.403 under full load. Now that the chipset seems to be performing decent, however, perhaps I'll start looking into VDroop/VMCH/VMem mods.
Thanks for your help bingo, and the suggestion Gary.
:D
My rev. 1.01G. Would be very interesting to have an opportunity VMODs on this mobo!
Especially interests VMCH mode and VCORE mode! My mobo does not raise a VCORE above 1.5 on CORE :-( (My memory perfectly works at 1:1 on VMEM 2.1 - OCZ XTX Gold 8000) But for the processor it is necessary1.7 (Tried on p5w, on VCORE 1.7 its working 4 G) I need BIOS 0402 Cant find it $(
I purchased one of these from Newegg along with an E6400 and 2gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800. It should be arriving in the mail tomorrow afternoon. Should I be worried about the 1.01g and C1 stepping? I want to push my new parts to the limit and will exchange the board for a P5B Delux or even wait a month for the 1.02g if it will get me a higher overclock. I don’t plan on any hardware modding of my board. What recommendations do you guys have? In any case, if I open the P5B-E box I'll report back on what I can get out of it.
I haven't tested the max speed of my MCH yet, but if you or I get in the neighborhood of Bingo then it's not too shabby. There are no inherit performance differences between the c1 and c2 revisions, the only downsides I see with the 1.01g vs. 1.02g are the following:Quote:

Hopefully with the help of some of the guys in the xtreme overclocking section can help me figure out some mods for this board.
I do see some definate advatages to this board over the P5B-Dlx, the main one being that it scales all the way to 400Mhz FSB with no instability, whereas from what I've read about the P5B-Dlx, 360-399 can be tricky. I haven't yet checked to see if the timings are loosened (higher strap) at 400Mhz, but I'll get to it and post results. My initial performance results have been promising; I'm testing at 383x9 (3447Mhz)on a 6600 with the ram at DDR2-958 5-5-5-15 (haven't tweaked yet) and I'm getting a 1M superpi time of about 14.8 in xp with all the background junk still running.
Guess I'll crack the seal and see what she can do sometime this week then, thanks TC.
Well folks, take a look at #16 of this thread,
Andre did 500x7 @ a retail 6600, so no need for any mods, "only 3 phase/ vcore droop" doesn't count here anymore,
this is impressive, I'll just wait one month and get a 1.02G, bingo.
Gary
When you get the board you'll notice that neither the box nor the acutal board are sealed in any way, unless the e-tailer sealed the box themselves. ;)Quote:

As of now, I have to set the Vcore to 1.5325 to get 1.42v under load. That's fine considering the board goes up to around 1.7, but the one part I don't like about that is giving 1.475v to my cpu while idle.
hell mine looked like it was used the way it was packed

I like Asus boards and I'd suggest not buying the peanut butter colored ones wrapped in the rough recycled cardboard.
yeah well that how it came from ZZF. The board is in an anti static bag.

Maximum CPU OC: (Standard Ratio)
515x7 (4-4-4-12, 1:1), CPU 1.5250V C1 Stepping - 3610MHz (+93%)
514x7 (4-4-4-12, 1:1), CPU 1.5250V C2 Stepping - 3602MHz (+93%)
C1 FTW !!! hehe

I'm not sure.. that's totally speculative. What I do find odd is the guys at anandtech didn't have nearly as large a drop in voltage on their P5B-E boards as I did, but they were running a newer BIOS that hasn't been released yet. Given that the VDroop is a documented "feature" in the intel specs, I wonder if it's extent is tweaked in different BIOS releases.Quote:

damn that sucks tho that its limited to 2.1 volts for ram and I got PC2 G.Skill DDR2 800 some of the best overclocking ram out there
I get my package today from newegg ... do you guys think I should return it to newegg and get my money back if its 1.01G ? then just wait until the 1.02G's ship out
Edit: ill just return it and get a P5W DH from zipzoomfly ($240) if I get a rev 1.01G ... that 2.1v memory voltage problem really bugs me
*update*
The One I got from Newegg is indeed Rev 1.01G but newegg was nice enough to issue me an RMA refund, when i get my money back i will be getting an Asus P5W DH instead, I dont feel like waiting until November for the Rev 1.02's and risk getting a 1.01 agian (that issue where 1.01G cant get 2.4v+ ram is annoying when u get expensive ram)
besides I like the heatpipe on the P5W DH its sexy
Yah, the 2.1v sucks. Other than that, however, I'm happy with the board. After I get all the tweaking done with the voltages allowed to set a baseline, I'm gonna bust out the soldering iron.Quote:

Initial results show no performance or stability changes. I'll post any further results that don't fall in line with the initial or any "features" that I find.
I am a TOTAL newbie regarding this subject of overclocking and probably won't mess with anything at all. I am building a new system for the family use with the P5b-e, E6600 processor and (2) 1 gig PC2-6400 memory. The memory says CL5-5-5-15 1.9~2.0V.
Is there any reason I should return this to Newegg and wait for a 1.02G?
Open to all suggestions, easy on the flaming please.;)
Nope, the 1.02 will only really add overclocking capability. I'm quite happy with the overall characteristics of my 1.01G, and would happily reccomend it to anyone who isn't a "hardcore" overclocker. The only real limitations are the lack of MCH voltage control and 2.1v max Vmem, both of which are overclocking only issues. There's just a big hubub here because the board was slightly misrepresented at first as more of a hardcore OC's board, which suckered me into buying it. :DQuote:

I appreciate your help.

Tough to say without more info Bill, I'd open up a thread in the Intel help & support with a full listing of your components. (cpu, psu, mem, mobo & cooling mainly)
With the right memory and cooling the 1.01G will still do 500~515FSB with a good E6300. I found it to overclock the same as the 1.02G. The 1.02G will allow a little more leeway in ramping up memory that otherwise would have an issue with the 2.1V limit. Although the 1.02G board allows up to 1.7V on the MCH, the 1.01G in auto mode will still supply up to 1.6V.Quote:

I ordered one about a month ago and it was still the old revision with max 2.1v for the DIMM, it was a lemon.
Now I need to build another PC and I would really like to get the new revision.
I contacted many resellers in the netherlands but they all do not know which version they have in stock :slapass:
