From my observations, Everest 'seems' accurate, although my past experiences with overclocking suggest that reported temps may even be a bit cool, especially given these are 'core' temps and not IHS or whatever temps I'm used to seeing.
Some things to think about (DQ6/E6400 combo):
-BIOS frequently reports CPU temp lower than MB temp
-BIOS temps sometimes below ambient temp
-Fairly constant 10c difference between MB/CPU as reported by Everest once things are warmed up.
SPUG: Not stating any opinions here, but I notice your CPU temp is also showing 7-8c below MB temp.
hey Gam. The mobo temp is the NB temp....this can quite easily be higher than ur cpu temp at idle....pretty much the case on all my setups....
I am getting around 57C full load when F@H with my E6400 at 3.3ghz at room temp.

How much AS5 are you supposed to apply between the HSF and the proc's heatspreader? Because I was told to apply just a very very thin layer, nearly to the point where the AS5 was semi-translucent.
I'm just wondering if I was supposed to gob it on. I put as much as 3/4 a grain of rice on at first, but ended up wiping a lot of it off as I was spreading it around. I just hit 70C in Core Temp during a dual prime run and I'm only @ 3.0GHz and stock volts. I'd like to somehow bring these temps down.

I noticed that my BIOS had my vCore up at 1.3 something because I left it on 'auto.' Apparently it maybe guesses what's best, but I didn't want it to do that. I set it back down to 1.2875 like you, Fusion.
CPU-Z says my RAM is running at 1:1, but with timings of 4 4 4 12. I don't know why they're that low, the ram is only rated to do 5 5 5 12. I'm guessing this could be my large fft prime stability problem. I am also noticing some very subtle grainy artifacting in the BIOS. I'm guessing that's probably not a good sign of something. So I backed it down to 316FSB and it's maybe better now? I dunno.

At stock voltage of 1.22v (according to PC Probe), temps were 44/56 (Core Temp), 45/58 (PC Probe). The heatsink fins/base during idle are COLD. They get slightly warm during full load (dual prime small FFT). I've reseated the heatsink several times, so I'm fairly sure I've mounted it correctly.
Because of this, I'm confident that the temperature readings are higher than what they actually are.

Since I changed from a p5wdh to a p5wdg2-ws professional boar my reported temps are way up. Mostlyt because of vcore increases. I have to use more vcore on this board for some reason and at 1.58vcor temps even on water with lots of fans blowing are high 50's idle compared to 41 for the p5wdh. And yes it is not a seating problem. I've also poked around with a digital temp probe and it is hard to believe the temps are as high as asus is reporting. It's stable, so I guess it's ok. I think there is a bug in the temp reporting hardware on alot of these boards. I mean 70 deg load and the side of my water block isn't even warm.. Something here just doesn't make sense especially since so many people are getting these higher temps reported. By the way from stock volts idel at 31 deg on this board to 1.5x volts at 59 deg, idle seems far too big a jump to me.

I really don't trust the temperature readings on this board at all. I went from the stock Intel heatsink\fan to the XP90 and the temps stayed exactly the same, so I'm positive that they are misreported. I've already ran Dual Prime95 blend for 19 hours without crashing, so I'm stable with these so called accurate temps. Also, and I know this isn't the most accurate way of gauging stability, but the heatsink is barely warm to the touch, and I know the contact is good.

It seems like many of us with Asus P5B Deluxe boards have almost same temps. This makes me believe it some bug in the intel boards with temps, or the "conroe" gets hotter than we expected, atleast with these mobo´s. If you look at people with i975x boards, they have much cooler conroe´s in average. So maybe its something with these newer 965 boards??

As i said in my earlier post... i975x boards seem much more cooler than the 965 ones does. This cant be a coincidence... there must be a bug in the 965 temp monitors or some voltage thing that really make them warmer. But I doubt that, coz everyone(me included) have tested with their hands/fingers, and no one can feel any heat from the coolers, if you compare to other cpu´s which really are at 40-50c warm, then you can feel the heat when touching the cooler. So this should be reported to Intel or the mobo vendors???!

I really hope that Core Temp is right in this instance and PC Probe is wrong. I reseated my heatsink once already and nearly snapped my board in half trying to get it on. Is 37c/55c normal for a stock 6400 with my heatsink and fan? I'm really afraid to overclock my chip until I figure out what's up.
Whats up guys? this is the Xtreme Systems fourm, ive never seen sooo many people running at stock vcore. Everyone must still be afraid of frying their new conroes :) But even on the intel supplied heatsink and fan i think you would be safe to bump it up to at least 1.4?. Most of you guys are running water and a couple are most likley even running phase and still as i was reading thru the list it was vcore=stock or vcore=1.28. you guys went out and bought the hemi and your driving it arround like an old lady going to church :)

Now guys look here - this is idle. Core nr 1 is much hotter than core nr 2. Strange, isn't it? Is suppose the cores should have pretty much the same temperature but they don't. The cooling is scythe ninja and a 920RPM 120mm fan. The mobo is Gigabyte DQ6. The temperature of the first core is simply horrible. Running prime means 62/58 celcius (first/second core). I had lower temperatures with a E6700ES@3.1GHz
OT can anyone upload somewhere their Gigabyte Easytune from a CD which you got with your DS3/4/DQ6 mobo as the version downloaded from the gigabyte website doesn't work with my DQ6. My CD was lost in action. I don't want to tell ou how it had happened, but I've got to teach my dog not to eat/bite my CDs :)
Mach82, i dont think youre core´s are so hot as the programs tell you. Im 99.9% positive that there is some temp bug in either p965chips or in the combo Conroe+965. Because if you look at other people´s posts here on this thread, you see that people with 965 have much higher temps than those with i975x mobo´s!!?? Why is that..

I don't know. Are these good temps? Run ORTHOS or dual SP2004 (load both cores) for 30 minutes and tell us your temps. Also, what does Core Temp read?Quote:

Well i made the mistake and bought the fireconn motherboard that wouldnt let you change the vcore. there where adjustments in bios but they wouldnt make any difference in the actual voltage the cpu receives. So i did the conroe conductive ink vcore mod on the processor and jacked it up to 1.54v ran really well for about 1/2 hr untill my fireconn digital voltage regulator module self destructed :) so right now im running 0.0 vcore untill my new mohterboard arrives on monday :) Im not the only one whos had the fireconn catch fire do a search for foxconn theres another poor guy whos caught fire while he was UNDERvolting :)

i have a quick question, my temps are said to be as high as 64C on my Gigabyte 965P-S3 and thats when im torturing it with both cores. is that way too high? what am i doing wrong. and the other odd thing, im running at 1.36v and im getting this, wtf? and this is on a e6300 with stock fan and artic silver, clocked at 2.2ghz
Mine is hitting 78\79 with 1.35v actual Vcore at 3.2ghz. I haven't hit any speed throttling yet, so there isn't a reason to worry as long as it's stable.
What irks me is that the Heatsink isn't even warm and I know it's making good contact :(
E6400 @ 2.67 settles in at 59 degrees celcius after hours of dual prime. I will see if it reports higher with the p5b deluxe i will have in tomorrow. I hope to get a higher overclock out of the p5b though. I was running at 2.8 and ended up getting a prime failure at about 4 hours in. I want 3.2 or higher 12 hours stable.

the diffeance from ai booster and core temp is quiet large.
dual prime 95 generates a lot of heat but as you can see nothing else comes close. I dont have the data to show but autogk xvid encoding is still 7-8C lower in temps than dual prime 95.

it's not clear but the yellow temp line is from the motherboard probe read in speed fan.

I was getign really crappy temps when i was over clocking on my strom water block. I was geting 62 load at 350 FSB at 1.40V. I couldnt get it stable over 350. I took off my block last night and notives about 40% of the chip wasnt making contact with the block. I cleaned the chip and noticed that 2 of the corners of the heat spreader were raised quite a bit. I have never seen a heat spreader this bad. I have never lapper a heat spreader. But i decided what the heck i have never used my warantee before (knock on wood).Quote:

I just got my P5B deluxe WiFi motherboard working and started it up. First thing I did was go into BIOS to see temps. This is the BIOS shipped with the board (have not flashed yet), I believe it is 3020 or something. Also I've only got the stock heatsink on the E6400 for now to make sure everything is in line. With this setup my CPU temps in BIOS were 45C and I believe motherboard temps were in the 32C range. My room temperature is about 72F-74F which is 22C-23C. I'm doing this from memory right now since I'm currently installing windows.
Does anyone know if those temps seem about right for stock heatsink?

Case: Lian Li v1200b (case closed, not using the card slot exhaust fan or cpu fan duct because neither fit. My SCSI card blocks the card slot cooler from going in and my ninja blocks the cpu fan duct.)
Right now I am running at 340x9, fsb:dram 4:5, DDR2-850mhz (425.6mhz)
for a CPU clock speed of 3064mhz. All BIOS settings are stock except for manual ram timings of 4-4-4-12 and FSB of 340.
Ambient: 23C
Orthos large FFT for 6 hours:
Load Temperatures:
Core Temp: 58C (fluctuates between 54 and 59 but mostly stays at 58)
PC Probe: 41C
Idle Temperatures 15 minutes or so after stopping Orthos:
Core Temp: 44C - 50C fluctuating
PC Probe: 32C
When booting up after leaving the machine off for 6+ hours PC Probe reads like 25 or 26C at idle. Bear in mind that I use stock BIOS settings which means that it throttles back voltage and multiplier at idle so I'm only running at like 2ghz at idle. My temperature readings go down VERY fast after a short stress test but after 6 hours of Orthos it takes a bit more time ;).
Last night I tried for a few hours to get 380x9 stable but I could not acheive it. I tried up to 1.475 vCore, 1.65 vMCH and 1:1 with SPD timings but Orthos large FFT would always throw an error after roughly 5 minutes. Increasing vMCH from stock to 1.60 took me from an almost instant error in Orthos to many minutes straight before an error. I think if I keep increasing vCore I may see more stability but I think I'm going to give up on 3.4. Tonight I'm going to try for 360x9 @ 1.45 vCore and other voltages stock with ram at 1:1 and 4-4-4-12 or better timings. I hope I can hit cas3 at this memory speed with a little vDIMM and vMCH :p:.
Edit: I raised vCore in the BIOS to 1.500 (with 1.60 vMCH) and I am now 4 hour Orthos large fft stable at 380x9 and 4-4-4-12! My new core temp load temperature is 67-69C though :eek:. After seeing the stability increase of going to 1.500 vCore I tried going back to stock vMCH and it bombed out pretty fast :(.
Edit Edit: I reduced my FSB to 378 and vMCH to Auto and I am now 7.5 hour Orthos large fft stable super cerial.

It seems like our MOBO has some tempbug, because i have 40c idle and 50c load with my e6600 using core temp app. But almost everyone with a i975x board has much lower temps in the 30-35c in idle. So either its a bug, or these 965 boards get higher temps with conroes?? Dont know, but i got a Zalman 9500 and its bout same temps as yours, so they seem about right!! Dont worry.Quote:

I understand that core temps as measured by CoreTemp, and other apps, are widely considered to be inaccurate. Nevertheless, I'm really unhappy with mine. Here goes (note that the following results are taken with my E6600 running at stock FSB, and undervolted to 1.25v):

These core temp readings are very high, imo, for stock FSB and 1.25 vcore. And, what's particularly vexing is the extreme discrepancy between the mobo CPU diode readings and the core readings. It seems that most people don't have a 15C-20C delta between the two, like Im having with mine. Further, when I run FSB 333 w/ 1.35 vcore, my cores idle in the low 50s and shoot into the low 70s at load. I'm not seeing such temps most other E6600 users. My HSF is making decent contact with the CPU heatspreader, and I'm using AS5.

This is wrong. You are right that the capability to read on die has been there, but MOST mobo makers do not tap into this, and still dont. Also, the thermal monitor has been redone with the new core 2 chips which varied from the dual thermal diodes in P4's and before. The P5W DH STILL does not read on die.Quote:

I want to give this 1.6V since i have watercooling, but after seeing the core temps, im afraid. Whats a safe limit on the core temps? Im sure when intel gives the max temp, it will not be core temps, since majority of users and MB makers dont even read these.

question, is it right to have such a high difference in temperature readings from speedfan and coretemp?
I too get temps about 10C hotter with Core Temp vs bios reading software. Some claim that the bios is reading mobo sensors (not true). Others claim that only Core Temp reads the new DTS (Digital Thermal Sensor) on C2D. Others claim that Core Temp is misinterpreting the DTS data. Before most hardware monitoring software was updated for p965/conroe/allendale etc, these programs were reporting what seemed to be the CPU (diode) temp. Temps fluctuated less and were typically lower under load.
From memory, Everest 3.01.692 beta (updated for 965/conroe etc), reported both CPU (diode) and CPU Core temps for E6400/DQ6. These were 10-20c different depending on what the CPU was doing.
With P945/D805 combo, only CPU temp is displayed.

Ok I know this may sound weird, but ever since I lapped my E6600 all my temps have matched with everything I use to monitor it, I am not sure if I lapped it so close to the die I am getting core temps, or what ( I am mostly joking there, but in reality I have no idea)

well, in my isolated case, I would have to say yes, but from most of the post's here, my readings are quite different, in the sense they are all basically the same, so the conundrum continues...
BTW, my water cooling, the water temp is at 28C coming from the cpu, so that even confuses me more, as well as the water block being completely cool to the touch.
And yes I have tested my seal by reaseating the block more times than I care to admit, think I almost went through a syringe of AS5 in the last 10 days.
I am beginning to think something is buggered somewhere with the Intel thermal tool and coretemp, but I can't confirm. I was reading intels data sheet found here: ftp://download.intel.com/design/proc...s/31327801.pdf . Tcase is defined as the temp at the top center of the IHS (see 5.1.2)... which NO ONE CAN MEASURE unless you mill a channel and insert a probe as per Intels specs on the TTV (Thermal Test Vehicle). The max value for Tcase is 60.1C, again this is something we can not measure. There are several thermal monitors, 2 of which can be enabled/disabled in bios. There are 2 more that will save the CPU regardless of bios settings, ie., the CPU will throttle and/or shutdown at or near critical temperature. The diode responsible for this function still has NOTHING to do with the diodes (DTS) that we can read, same as it was on the P4's...
What does all this mean? I'm not entirely sure, but I think the values set forth in coretemp may be off... my theory is that max Tdiode is ~85C and I know that max Tcase is 60.1C. Again, the DTS responsible for making sure that Tdiode does not breach 85C IS NOT READABLE!!!
Another discovery is that as people have mentioned Asus probe and Speed fan DO seem to be reading some sort of diode (DTS). Temps jump instantly from idle to load and viceversa. If I had to guess, it would SEEM like coretemp is somehow tapping into the DTS that is supposedly NOT READABLE and that the 'other' diode temps are tapping into the DTS that Intel intended for end users to monitor their temps with.
This certainly creates more questions than it answers - Chapter 5 in the pdf I linked to is worth a read.
FFS, @nikhsub1 are you saying all of our temps are off by 25C, that would make sense as to my internal water temp, but still, seems absurd that all the monitoring we have could be so flawed.
Though when faced with all the obvious being wrong, the absurd is what is left (very bad paraphrasing, my apologies, have been up for 30 hours)
Is their anyway to safely test the temp through a probe of some sort? I have been trying to come up with a resonable way to do it, I tried booting with my block off, at my increased voltage (stupid I know) was able to post, but then blamo, shut down, so I learned real quick, the damn things get hot, cause I have every thermal guard I could get at turned off.

I'll contribute too. Not sure which reading is accurate, Coretemp or Gigabyte's monitor, though everyone agrees that Hardware Monitor is always spot on. Sounds like it's underreporting temps by 5C.

I just installed a Corsair Nautilus 500 Water Cool System in a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 MoBo with a E6400 Chip. When I use MemTest CPU-Z indicates 100% CPU usage and my temps go to 55c CPU and 54 Sys according to Speed Fan. The E6400 is overclocked 8x420 to 3360 Mhz. I only have a block on the CPU and nothing on the NB. Is this a good temp for water cooling.I thought I'd see 36c like a lot of the reviews said.
Bad contact, maybe? Might need to be reseated.

Looks like my temps are about right. When I do 2 cpu stress programs and cpu usage is 100% my temps climb to over 60c then I chicken out and reduce to 50% usage. Im overclocked on a E6400 to 3400Mhz. It seems like the Corsair Water Block is mounted tight except I hav a bad clip on one of the 4 cornerers so that corner isnt tied down, used artic silver and coated it a little better than thin. There was a large air pocket you could see in the hose so I tilted the case and it got sucked out. Anybody out there with a OC'd E6400 and water to compare temps on CPU stress program?Quote:

Speed : 2.6ghz (max @ 440*8 but much more heat, don't know whether I can trust it or not but it's stable; vcore is *only* 1.4V at 3.5ghz!)

Can I trust this? When I touch the cooler it's not even warm.. I've got 2 120mm casecoolers @ low speed; cpu fan also @ low speed.
Anybody else with P5B who has got such high temperatures? Do I need to reinstall the heatsink (though I think it's 100% correctly mounted right now..)

P5B is known to report higher temps. Some ppl report a 10-15'C difference.

These temps were taken with the radiator fans on 7v, load temps are probably 2c or so lower with the fans on 12v, but too noisy :)
The E6400 has been lapped, but this didnt achieve a whole lot, around 3c drop on load.
Once again :
I think temps in BIOS, SpeedFan, easytune or any other program that read from bios showing only 1 CPU temp is the SOCKET TEMP .
Everest and CoreTemp is the temps of the both cores ;)
i have 17/18c idle and 30c FUll --- in bios , easytune, speedfan
30c idle || 42c full >>> with Coretemp ;)

I'm running a E6400 at 8x420. My vcore is the same 1.4V. Is that OK? I only change my Mhz when I overclock in Bios and seems stable with all the test. Still freakin over the 67c on both cores with water when doing the Orthos large with 100% cpu usage.Quote:

There is no such thing as a "socket temp" with C2D. The bios, speedfan, easytune, etc. read a conventional on-die thermal diode like the one on P4, K8, etc. and iTAT, Everest and Core Temp read 2 separate digital thermal sensors located on hot spots of each core. Hoorah! Decided this is too hot! Pulled the waterblock off the cpu to maybe shake out bubbles then clean the cpu and the block off and did what a guy on one of these forums suggested. He said he nevers spead the thermal paste with a blade cuz it can intruduce air pockets. He said put a small dab in the middle of the cpu then press and let it spread evenly. that way you have coverage but not to much thickness. Well after I did this my temps on the E6400 8x420 3400mhz on Orthos went from scary 67/67 (on Core temp) to 58/59 with my CPU at 100% on Speed Fan. I still want to Mod the Corsair WC unit and get it down more, maybe a 90 CFM quite fan that a fellow suggested. Might try Thermotakes Big Water with the 240cm and 120 cm fans and see how the stack up. I picked up the Corsair becaus it kept the clutter in the case to a block and 2 hoses, less to leak in there! Question: In Speed Fan and othe programs where is the "Case Temp taken from. I thought the North Bridge but I put a fan on it and the "Cse Temp didn't change.Quote:
