Thanks 3oh6! It seems that's the read poit on the IC leg. The choke that Persivore wanted me to measure must be related somehow...
good going man if i find time this weekend will setup my own board for a decnt run
Ok it's been a while. Sorry to disappoint but I never ran dry ice. I waited for 2 weeks for a day that wasn't hot and humid but it never came. I had gaps in my insulation so I didn't want to run on a typical 90f 60% humidity day.
I took the mousepot off today as I got these:
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/IMG_0760.JPG
Another set of ballistix :D
BUT there's bad news. After taking the mousepot off I realized that I had damaged two SMDs on the CPU (how'd you guess)
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/IMG_0761.JPG
I have no PSU now which is why I didn't dice or test anything this week but UPS will be dropping off an OCZ 700 and x1900xt tonight. If the CPU still works (it should since it POSTed with mousepot and broken SMDs) I'll have some 4 way interleaving results/comparisons ASAP. If the CPU is broken they I'll have to wait for the price drops so I can snag an X2 5000+ EE. And yes the IHS will stay on that one.
Yay PSU is here!
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/IMG_0762.JPG
Very nice PSU. They cut the size down greatly from the powerstream models and they use a stealth black finish and not a shiny one. Having all the cables sleved is a major plus. I was happy to see molex grip things that make removing the molex easier like the enermax liberty has and even happier that they didn't follow the same wiring scheme. Some retard at enermax decided that going molex sata molex sata on every power cord was a good idea. Well it's not. OCZ on the other hand gives me more cables than I know what to do with:
20/24 pin ATX
4/8 pin 12V
2x 6 pin PCIE
2x 3 sata cable
2x 3 molex 1 floppy cable
Unless you're trying to make your computer hover, have a massive 8+ drive RAID array, or you want to enter it in am import car show, I can't think of a use for every single connector. Good job OCZ!
Next is the GeCube X1900XT that newegg had on sale.

http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/IMG_0765.JPG
Bunch of connectors, 2x molex to PCIE and 2x DVI to analog connectors not shown, delta force something or other game, and some boring DVD software. Then a CD with old drivers and a big multi language manual. I didn't bother looking at any of it.

This card is BIG! Even longer than my 7800GTs and the cooler weighs a ton. Hopefully I can deal with the drivers and overclocking. Would have gone with a 7950GX2 if I hadn't gotten such a killer deal on this card.
I'll hook PSU and CPU up now and see if the poor orleans still works.
good to see a full system ready to roll...well hoping that the CPU is still rolling.
i just received my OCZ 700W the other day too and was quite pleased with the overall appearance of the flat black finish and small stature of the unit. plus the cables are actually useful with the way they are setup. looks like a twin for my now tiny 560W ST56ZF, i still think its single 12V rail will hold its own against the 700W but don't tell that to the GameXStream ;)
a pair of 7900GTXs should be making their way to my place tomorrow so all kinds of fun should be had this week. look for my pissing around with that stuff somewhere around here at XS.
i look forward to the 4-way action AFI and have my fingers crossed for the Orleans.
Orleans works fine. It got wayyyy to hot in my room so I moved everything into the basement but I've been gaming. Off to bench now. Does 4 way interleaving enable it's self? There's no BIOS option for it.
good to hear about the CPU...as for the interleaving, your right, there is no BIOS option for it. now that i think about it, the M2N32 doesn't have anything in the BIOS that caught my eye on that front either. perhaps it will detect that it can and just run straight out of the hopper?Quote:

Heh, I like the pizza on top of the mobo. I'd not feel comfortable with grease dripping over it though.
I am thinking about going AM2, as the investment into 2Gb of DDR2 will be much better than DDR; should I go for the 3200+ or 3500+?
542mhz 2.5v 32m stable, working on 550mhz. Crashes half way through. Didn't play with x1900xt much, set 650/750 and that was it. I'll check ram and reseat cooler with ceramique tonight along with uploading the screenshots of ram.
Ok here we go. 4*512 4-4-4-8 2T 542mhz 1.5v
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/542-4way.JPG
Try as I might, I can't get 550 for the life of me. Not sure if it's an AMD IMC limitation or the new set of ram.
X1900XT seems to be doing nicely as well:
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/12.5k.JPG
You need some water for the card and ...
How come no 3.8Ghz++ on Orleans ??
I've seen people on water doing 13k on X1900GTs, and with your combo, closer to 15k m8 :)

Maybe if I can figure out a way to 100% insulate but it's 90F and high humidity every day :(
Do it 1-2 am at night?
Nice, DIMM slots fully loaded :toast: I've always liked the way it looked
Is 4-way interleaving working for you the same it worked in my case. AFI? Did you notice any difference in benchmarks? I don't think that DDR2-1080 is some magic number (as you mentioned) or a limit. Probably just a coincidence, that we're both hitting same clocks. I was on 4x1GB though...
I didn't test throughly but I noticed a .5 sec difference in 1m when I was playing around trying to figure out what was wrong. I'll test the new set by it's self tomorrow to see if it passes 550.
Around 1-2am the humidity hits 80% or higher.
Hey! Why is your memory bench mark so jacked up? I have a 3800+ aswell, and my memory numbers are not that bad. Heres what im doing.

Dual core makes a huge difference in memory bandwidth. Mine would be similar to yours with a dual core. Nice clocks on your ram though :) Do you think you can tighten up the tras and trc? They're really high.
Hey man I like the work you're putting into this, very clean and thought through. It gives me a good impression of AM2. Relatively speaking, the core on your x19 isnt doing bad as well, as mine starts to crap even BEFORE 700mhz because it just gets too hot. Anyways keep it up
Makes me wanna go 4x512mb all over again :p:

stoopid memory clocks but with a single core, the bandwidth numbers are just mediocre at best.
@AFI, the more i look at that mass of ballistix memory jammed intot he slots the dead sexier it gets. those heatspreaders X4 just looks sick.
count me in on that coincidence... i'm topping out at around 543mhz with 4-4-3 :banana:Quote:

my Foxconn C51 hit a wall of 1080 with OCZ 2x1GB (C4 or C5) but i thought it was CPU related...hmmm. i will investigate that right now i guess. the M2N32 has no issues with my 3GHz 3200+ running 2x1GB 1100 4-4-3-5.
Nice ram post 3oh6 :)
Working on a 32m and 3d01 compare between 2 and 4 sticks give me an hour.
Well I'm not sure what's going on now but I can't get 542.5 to pass 32m anymore with 4 sticks. Both the new and old set do the speed fine on their own :(
what type of cooling are you using?
that is amazing results, im also gettin ghte 3800+, and was wondering which mobo i should guess, not anymore i guess, lol.
stock amd headpipe cooler from opterons.
Try placing a fan over the ram or something. Try switching the ram slots they are in (ie blue with black). Great reveiw AFI.
OMG! that is nuts, i cant wait for mine.
Already have two fans flowing over them and I've tested each set in both slots and both sets are 32m stable in either slots at 550+. Even with looser secondary timings I can't get 542 stable with 4 sticks again. I think it's some sort of IMC limitation at 2gb/4 sticks as bachus, ozzi, and 3oh6 are hitting similar walls. I'll try to pick up an X2 tonight to see if the winsdor core has a better IMC.Quote:

I shovled more ice into the pot and as I pushed it down the system shut off. Instead of being logical and realizing that I had bent the board to far, I tore it all apart. No condensation.
Bios was reading 44C at this point (wtf?)
Put nail polish over the SMDs on the CPU thinking they got a bit damp. Remount and now I can't get over 3.1ghz or so. Then 2.9ghz started freezing in windows. I tore it down thinking bad contact. Nope! Best contact I've seen in months
Bios was reading 17C on that mount
Remount a third time with no nail polish. Got to 3.3ghz but couldn't get over it no matter what ram speed, timings, cpu voltage, or if I took 2 sticks of ram out. Eventually prime started crashing after 3d/pi and I was running out of ice
Bios was reading 23c this mount

Yeah I blow at taking pictures :(
I have a small video clip but it's a 9mb avi and I'm to lazy to convert it using windows movie maker or whatever. I installed that ATI AVIVIO thing to do it with my X1900XT but I have no idea how to use it.
I have CPUZ validation of this clock but of course it's going to screw me and say "File not authorized"
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/3310-1m.JPG
Only run I bothered to save a picture of. I had 28.375 sec with the ram at 3-3-3-5 2t. Quite unimpressive. Depressing actually. I couldn't run bandwidth either as sandra 05 and 07 didn't want to open for me. 8m clocked in at 4m 54s. Didn't want to waste any more time with 32m.
ddr1100mhz WILL NOT run at -72c
1T WILL NOT run at -72c
AM2 is slow.
I have a 3800+ x2 coming tomorrow but I'm just going to test it, swap it into my daily rig, and sell my 939 stuff. Time to wait for conroe. If a single core cold bugs at 250 htt then a 10x multi dual core isn't going anywhere.

AVIVO is awesome! It's a shame the rest of ATIs driver is so bad. I'll save my ATI rant for another day.
Nice run man. Too bad about the remounts but overall it seems like AM2 really isn't that much better than 939!

yeah, stress prime running in the background to keep temps up and from locking...i am sure AFI can get better times with that rig of his on air...easy like.Quote:

Nah chris was at 3.1ghz with some OCZ EB.
SP2004 didn't help but I also got my best time ever with it running. 3.57ghz in win 2k pulled me 23.1sec with SP2004 open.
LDB4F 0626 XPMW 3800+ here. Bet this one bugs even worse :(
My times sucked so bad at 3.3 because I was running 3-3-3-5 2t at 413mhz. You really need 500+ at 4-4-4-8 2t to see any power from DDR2. Only problem is high mem clocks like 550 required to get that power don't run thanks to cold bug.
Spent a few hours with the 3800+... It's HOT! I've thought core temp is a load of BS but I think it's right here. Telling me I'm loading 52/55C (how can it read 2 temps from one die?) so I touched the heatpipes (still using stock AMD cooler) and they were HOT! 4 sticks of ram at 2.5v gets pretty hot to.
As usual I'm running dual 32m. I figured I could either run 561mhz with 2 sticks of 466 with 4... I chose 2 sticks :p:
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/2800-32m1.JPG
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/2800-32m2.JPG
Vcore = 1.45v
I tried up to 1.55v to get 2.9ghz stable but it BSOD'd half way through and the heatpipes were scolding hot. I need a better cooler.
So I decided to try bandwidth (got sandra to work again thanks to ozzimark :toast: ) and got this first try:
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI/AM2/10ksandra.JPG
Decided to try 4 sticks and with some pushing I got 11k!
http://afireinside.evilspork.net/AFI...-bandwidth.JPG
I've never been able to get 4 sticks stable over 540mhz with the orleans so I was surprised. Maybe the windsor IMC is much stronger? I'll test pi tomorrow but I need a break for now. 4 way interleaving seems to give about 600mb in buffered bandwidth, at 2.8ghz anyway. I was hitting 10,950ish at 2.8 flat so I kicked it up a notch for 11k :D
aces on the 11K AFI, i haven't had the pleasure of breaking it myself yet because my X2 memory controller won't play nice at DDR1100 4-4-3-5...AKA it candle handle it with 2GBs. i haven't had enough time to mess aorund with it to figure out foresure if the memory controller is my issue or not. the water will be available soon enough so i can move it back over there and see what is up.
This chip doesn't do your dice skills justice afi
Grab an X2 if you can :)
Perkam
Thanks perkam :)
Damn :( If you clockgen to ddr1100 or higher at 4-4-3-5 does it insta lock? I can't remember if my single core does. Pretty sure this X2 has a stronger memory controller that's letting me run 561 with 2gb for sandra at least. Didn't have time to play with it today. I'm going to try mounting watercooling again, hopefully I get good contact this time. Also need to install photoshop so I don't have to use paint to resize pics. Paint makes them look bad :(Quote:

Well I think I found my ram problem... I had no luck getting 4*512 to clock well so I decided to just run 2 sticks and try to get a faster 32m time at the same clocks, this time with the latest version of CPUZ and a spi mod with the checksum thing working.
I start 32m x2, go to get a drink, and as I'm walking down the stairs *DOINK* *DOINK* the sound my mobo speaker makes when pi fails. Both instances failed after the initial value. Pulled the ram out to realize it's my new kit. Swapped it for the old 575mhz kit and it's running smoothly. I guess the new set just doesn't clock well.
i finally got around to testing it and yes, with a single core i get POST right into BIOS. witha dual core i get nothing...now there is just two dahses on the diagnostic LEDs. any thoughts? i have the latest BIOS although they posted a new one on their site a couple of days ago but you can't download it.Quote:

pretty solid for a early rev. of the 590 shipset, cant wait to see intels version
Ouch am2 is dissapointing to say the least..

I cant wait till he gets the required hardware to get this fuggr clocking the way he knows he can...

1) coldbug
2) need 600mhz cas 4 ram to equal BH-5 performance @ PI
Actually 575/2=287.5 so I'm on par with good bh5 since 4-4-3-5 is on par with 2-2-2-5 bh5 assuming the ddr2 is double the speed.
BUT AM2 is cold bugged so hard there's no way I'm touching 575mhz ram @ -70c. Plus with this "4F" stepping I will probably bug before I even hit sub 0.
I am talking about actual performance though, you can do all the NN_STEP math that you want, but you ran 28.5s or so 1m.Quote:
