I'm covered there I have 1024 but I have some system issues I hope I can do this marathone.It starts rebooting.I have a board issue.I'm running Prime now to see if it can alst 24H if yes then I'm up for it.

But it's better to have like 3 machines p4 1,5 256mb , p3 1ghz 256mb and a p3 866 128mb , runnig on windows 2k , or just the p4 running with 512 , and the p3 1ghz with 128 by ex.

There are some "monsters" coming for this party that I don't know if they can run 2-3 days straight at those speeds..

running on the X2, Installing on the DIMES rig (SD 3700, 2GB) for the Duration, will suspend DIMES for this.

DIMES rig should be puttin out numbers in about 10 mins:D

I have a P2 266 MHz and an another P2 233 Mhz with 128 and 96 ram respectively. The 233 has a 4 GB hard drive (another 20 gb is available though) and the 266 has a 20gb hard drive.

Since the minimum requirements are 512mb+ ram and 500 MHz, I am not sure whether I can take part. The computers would be running win 2000, win 98 or Ubuntu Linux 5.10 depending on your verdict.

Should I even think about joining in with my POS hardware or what? :eh:

EDIT: forgot to say that the machines would be running 24/7 once they are up and running

install rosetta and see how they handle it. every little bit helps no matter how small.

So, do you guys think that for the weekend I should switch to running 1 hour wu's? I run 4 hour ones now, but I have have added a couple of slower computers for the push. I'm wondering if the shorter ones would be better. Can someone give me some feedback on this? Thanks :)

Go to your rosetta@home preferences. There you can select your cpu target time, anywhere from 1 hour to 1 day.

I've been running 10 and 12 hour WUs. A little less initialization time, so a bit more points. But only do this with a machine that is stable as stable can be, or with WUs that haven't been having problems. <------I haven't been having any problems with linux WUs and haven't heard of any, FYI.

I just hooked up a P3 933 and the first task on it says over 15 hours to complete :eek: I know it's slow, but damn that is a long time. That's were my question came from. I also just got a cely 2.53 going. Benchmarks were around 2800 and 9900, so that should do ok. By tomorrow I should have 2 athlon xp machines added.

We are doing this for the sunday stats on rosetta that start app 9pm EST or 18 hours from now.. sounds like it will start at 3am sunday your time..

Since the comps are pretty slow, I'm prolly using linux then. Does anybody know a guide to isntalling and setting up rosetta only using the linux Command line interface? Installing the gui on those poor fellas would be waste of compute cycles. :confused:

I tried and finally found it!

You install download the .sh file from BOINC
(currently available at http://morel.mit.edu/download/boinc/...c-linux-gnu.sh)
then you execute it, by doing ./boinc_5.4.9_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh
then when its done they tell you where to find run_client, execute it:
./run_client
type in Ctrl-Z
then bg 1
(that will send the client into background)
./boinc_cmd --host localhost --passwd <YOUR PASSWORD> --get_state
your password is found in gui_rpc_auth.cfg, in the same folder
then you attach the computer to your account, by doing this:
boinc_cmd --host localhost --passwd <YOUR PASSWORD> --project_attach http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Where xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx is your account key, if you dont have it you can request it on rosetta site, they will send you an email.
Then you will get lots if files downloading and all.
If you're running from a virtual terminal (telnet, ssh, etc.) you can just close it, if its a real terminal then leave it there :P You can also try running top, which lists the processes using most resources, rosetta should be there, at #1 :)

EDIT: I did everything up to the point where I had to look my password from the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file. I opened it and the file contains only one number, which is as long as the account key. Are they the same thing? I used my "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" in the next phase. And it spat this out:

Ok, you have to figure it out that way:
boinc is some sort of server, and you control it using boinc_cmd, so you connect to "localhost" which is your own computer, and the password (--passwd argument on command line) is xxxxxxxxx, found in gui_rpc_auth.cfg
so basically, ./boinc_cmd --host localhost --passwd <password from gui_rpc_auth.cfg> --project_attach http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta <account key from email>

I was just about to post that I got it attached, but I guess you were faster.

I can now see the P2 in my computers list, but I can't get it start a task :(

Isn't it it possible to control several computers using the Boinc software? According to the computer list the computers name is "Localhost.localdomain" and when i try to connect to it, it just displays the stuff of my workstation. :( I'm really getting pissed at this.... So much stuff to configure... :(

Well guys I just installed it on my A64 3800+ @ 2.7Ghz so this should help out a alittle I hope. I should have this running from this post until the sunday night! :toast: I just hope I have it setup right.. I installed it and setup my account and then joined the XS Team group with my email and password then just ran the only project listed.. does that sound right??

we thought about doing that but decided not to. Didn't want to appear to be "whining" to the membership after having emailed them such a short time ago. There was another factor: I didn't want to ask NJKID to do this again, took him all night long to send those 28,000+ emails 50 at a time..
He's a great guy and he would have done it if I asked but I decided not to.
The power is here, every day, in the membership..Just didn't get as many new faces as I thought would come.

I have to agree 1 mil is looking less likely but to say it is not that good this is still record daily output we're on for and we used to be impressed with our first 300K day let alone 330K and half way through the day :eek: Does anyone know what the record daily ouput for any boinc project? I think we're in with a chance of taking it :toast:

Every rig counts, helps and is appreciated also a sempy is a very nice cpu for Rosetta should match a reasonably clocked P4 even being at stock :toast:

Its funny you say that MM he doesnt even like it outside. I have to drag him out to pee. Its prolly 110f today and I have my a/c on 65f cuz my phase has been running for at least 24 or more hours. So you could imagine its hot in my office.. Na its not the paint you can watch its the rearview mirrors. When it hits about 120f you can walk through a parking lot (if you brave the heat) and watch peoples mirrors just drop off the windsheild....

dam it's hot here too, 95f in the shade easy, my air conditioner has been running a lot to keep my room even at 75, it had a problem earlier the compressor stalled and the overload protection was kicking it offline (dam thing probably overheated from it being so hot outside :stick: ) it started back up after letting it sit for a while tho
