Running 2 instances is fine BUT using small FFT's will NOT give you a definitive answer as to ram stability even if you ran it for a whole week.
You MUST use the large FFT test for a true stability reading :)
Hi nj, nice to see all the work you are doing helping others :clap: , regarding Super Pi, I have tried it the way you have shown but that way still does not work as well as having 2 seperate folders just renamed -0 and -1 with their .exe files renamed the same then make a shortcut to desktop for each.
Open task manager first then open your 1st Pi (-0) then assign affinity in task manager to -0 for that instance, then do the same for -1 :)
Thanks guy, I did not have PI setup right. I hate to pull off the IHS but it sounds like that is the only way to get acceptable temps.
Will a BT fit on a naked cpu or is it a chop and channel job?
Im actually looking into getting a X2. But when i built this baby i put in the 3000+ so i can save for a bit and buy a higher up X2. I think im going to go with the 4600+. They run a hell of alot hotter then the single cores dont they?
4600 is a rubbish purchase. I've never seen a x2 3800+ that can't reach 2.4ghz at 1.4v or less, and most can hit about as high as the 4600+. Either get a 4400+ (for the cache) or x2 3800+, and some your money.
It's nice to have the 11x multi of the 4200 if you need extra low latency... easier to get at lower FSB...there is no "definitive" buy this answer as every chip OC's differently. Only generalizations are being spoken
Passed memtest, S&M, 2x large FFT for 10hrs(865mb/cpu), OCCT, and combos of above. Went to run d2ol and :explode: .
Finally tracked it down to my blahistix 4000 (it won't run over 255 :mad: ). Slapped my GBLE back in, set the settings and am running fine @ 9x300 : :confused:
Nice to see the problem solved mikee, I have noticed the X2's do put a bit more strain on ram compared to single core so maybe your Tracers will be OK but only with single core ?? :)
I just figured out I have the same problem with my OCZ 4800's. I ran them with a venice @300 and with my sd@290. Still couldn't run 2xpi with this 3800 and remembered your post. Put in divider and bingo! What do you think it is, bad memory controller?Quote:

^^What kind of temps you get on a MachI with that? I won't mind one of them toledos, but I'm guessing that might be pushing it. Probably stick with my SD until games benefit more rather than overload my mach1.

What was your highest stable overclock before going naked?? Curious. Dont know if I will have enough cojones to remove the IHS.....
Scroatdog, I think I was at like 2.8ghz or so. I really didnt wait to take off the IHS cuz of all the heat the X2 was putting out.
texuspete00, when I first started with the mach I was having contact issues with my IHS. Cuz my chip was naked and I had to put it back on. I am now at -21 and it never goes above -0 when under load. That link was my old WR which has been broken but I have a few under my belt and will be getting the mach modded in a week so you will see alot more out of this X2. ;)
Hehe thats the problem with getting a WR (congrats BTW, great job, you were the 1st and no one can take that away from you nj :toast: ), there is always someone just waiting to break it :)

Most always one stick is weaker then the other. Changing my ocz4800's made a big diff.
Wanna see something funny? Give it 2gig of memory and dual prime it. You will see immediate gain (even more than your 6c there on CPU temp)...:P Been find interesting things last couple of weeks.
