another strange thing is that the sticks are memtest-stable (test 5,7,8) for hours. (@ 275 2.5-3-3-7@2.7V), but no go with windows. :stick:

I think the sticks won't do the timings...I'm afraid.

Memtest86++ is a weird problem to test stability. In my opinion memtest86++ is only usefull to test malfunction.

RAM GURU'S i need your help!

I'm having a hard time findind a stable mem config. Even with timings that would fit for the majority of DDR600 running memorys i can't get stable.

SuperPi 32M fails after a couple of loops and i get frequent and erroneous error's and BSOD's.

I have a pair of 512Mb Geil One S (TCCD) PC3200. I'm trying to run DDR564. And i am using 623-3 bios.

My cpu is prime stable for +12hours with the following config:

HTT - 282
Multi - 9
LDT - 3
Vcore - 1.475

At the begining i got the same behaviour, errors (applications crashing, bsod, etc...) and also lot of errors in memtest test number #5.

So i swapped the memory modules and the errors from memtest went away. However instability stood.

The last settings i used to try and get things running at 1:1 still with no luck were:

Vddr: 2.7v
Tcl: 2.5

Update:

I've tried different bioses.

704-2bta
623-1/2
501-1fix

All with same results.

Even uped timings to 2.5-4-4-7.

No go.

I've tested other settings like 300HTT and the ram works perfectly @ 2.5-4-4-7 @ 2.7v.

So why the heck doesn't it also work with theese timings @ 282HTT?

Did some tweaking to my ram, here's the results i got with it so far:

Hoping that it is stable in windows, i ran memtest86 test 5 for 10 times in a row and test 8 for 5 times. Letting the pc run on R@H now for the night to see whether it crashes or not. :)

Will these setting work with BH-5? If not, is there a BH-5 UTT memory tweaking guide?

I was just doing some tweaking to my system and was wondering what I could do to get my TCCD to do 1t @ 280 FBS on 2t I think I can go higher than that here is a screen shot of what I have so far.

No as BH-5 is a totaly different type of chip. (relatively low speed with tight timings vs high speed with lose timings)

Change the following settings to:

trc: 8 or 9, test them for stability
trcd: 4, it seems your sticks don't like higher speeds at 3
tras: 7
tref: 3120 or what worked for me as well is 4708

And the the idle cycle limit can be set to 256 for stability. (if needed, otherwise leave it at 0 as that gave me the best performance)

No these settings will not work on BH-5. Unfortunately there is no optimization guide also, so please search for some BH-5 UTT overclock topics. You definitely will find some interesting settings.

for drive and data stregnth i have settings for weak 1, normal 1, weak 2, normal 2 etc up to normal 4 and level 1-3 on the other one...do i have an older/newer bios from this one? i'm expeciencing some serious windows instablility problems but memtest was just fine all the way up to 295mhz but windows wont stay up for more than a few min at 275mhz and those settings...

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've poked my head in here...but I'm having problems.

First off....let me give you the backround on the situation.

I recently aquired the following hardware from a friend on another forum:

Opty 146
DFI RDX200 (I know it's not an nf4 board, but timing options are the same)
2x512MB GSkill PC4800

My friend had the same cpu/mobo/ram running at 300x10 1:1. I'm not necessarily aiming for a large amount of stability, as I'm only using a Zalman 7000CU to cool the cpu, but I can't get the system to boot at anything about 265x10 1:1. Anything up to 265 1:1 is fine with 2.5-3-3-7 and no other timing touched, but I haven't been able to boot at anything higher. What happens is it posts, but at the point where it'd normally go through "Verifying DMI Pool Data" it just hangs. If I knock the memory down with the 166MHz ratio I can get bench with the cpu at 295x10 so theoretically I should be able to get into windows and bench at 295x10 1:1 given what the hardware has been tested to do...but I can't figure the timings out for the life of me.

When I had my Ultra-D and a gig of PC4400 GSkill...the basic DDR600 timings in the guide worked for me...but no go anymore.

I've tried just booting at 3-4-4-8 with nothing else touched, and I've tried using the timings outlined in the guide for DDR600 2.5-3-3-6 and nothing seems to work.

I'm not sure how much help I might be able to get being that it's not an nf4 board...but this same combo was doing 300x10 1:1 before it was shipped to me and I know I'll be able to do almost the same...I just can't seem to figure this out.

Any help is appreciate, I'm willing to try anything.

Hi! If you use the optimized settings for TCCD but leave the Tcl, Trcd, Trp and Tras stock (2.5-4-4-8) are you still having troubles at DDR600?

I'll try it out.

I've done as far as to get 270x10 1:1 bench stable...but I've had one "lock" in windows so far...no big deal though, I haven't fine tuned this thing at all.

The CPU can only do 290x10 but I'm guessing that overall the system will bench/perform better at 290x10 1:1 then it would at 300x9 1:1.

I've also tried leaving Tcl, Trcd, Trp and Tras at "auto" but still nothing.

I've also tried everything that's suggested in the guide if the above settings are not stable:

The settings above are set for high performance and stability. The Tref can be tuned higher to e.g. 1.95us for better performance. Tref=3072 is 200MHz 3.9us refresh interval. You can also set Trfc to 12.

When those settings are not stable, you can change the following:

- Max. Async. to 8ns
- Lower the refresh interval (Tref)
- Trrd to 3
- Twr to 3
- Trwt to 3
- Idle Cycle at 128/256

Still....no dice.

Just to clarify, the system does POST and does get to/through the PCI Device and IRQ listings...but when it would normally jump through "Verifying DMI Pool Data" it just sits with a blinking cursor. It used to do the same thing at 270x10 1:1 but I eventually got the timings figured out and now 270 1:1 boots perfectly...so I know this should be possible...just gotta find the right combination of timings.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I don't think it has anything to do with the Tcl, Trcd, Trp and Tras as the previous owner had this ram/cpu/mobo combo doing 300x10 1:1 at 2.5-3-3-7 /w 2.75v...and no, anything up to 3.0v doesn't help either. :(

What I am thinking now is that your RAM is possibly broken or worser now.
I suppose 300x9 1:1 2.5-3-3-7/2.5-4-4-8 is also a nogo?

If all does not work, please try one module in bank 1 and try running the same speed and latency. I am 100% sure it is not your mainboard nor memorycontroller.

The settings are good ... please let me know so I can help you further..

I'm pretty sure I tried 300x9 at similar/the same timings but I'll give it another go.

I've tried switching the memory back and forth between their dimm slots before, but not recently, and I have not tried with a single stick.

I'll give it all a go and let you know.

Is it normal for memory to "break" or not perform how it was merely days earlier?

Yes it happens...

If for eg. one bad IC of the 16 is bad then you will notice BSOD's, R/W errors, strange reboots etc. If you feel that the memory is not running the speed/latency it used to run on the same system, there is a possibility your memory is "dying".

Hopefully it'll all be running well...I suppose 2.7GHz 1:1 is still nice enough and 2.5GHz 1:1 works fine on stock voltage so we'll see.

to everyone having trouble with their ram please do the following test each stick seperately @317 2.5-3-3-7 and record the results or errors if 317 doesnt get u errors try higher .then put the stick with the most errors in the first orange slot nearest the cpu and the other in the second and report back here thanks ;-)

I'll try testing them individually even at 300x9 1:1 and running through memtest to report back on that hopefully sometime today.

Well...I ran through memtest at 200 1:1 2.5-3-3-7 and all's well...I just thought that if the ram was "dying" or had bad sectors or something like a hard drive can that the errors would show through at stock clocks also.

I very well could be wrong...but I'll try booting at 300x9 1:1 now and see what happens.

EDIT: I haven't done any memtest'ing or anything...but at 300x9 1:1 I simply set the DRAM options to BIOS default...and it boots into XP and runs through SuperPi 1M at 3-4-4-8 2T. I haven't tried tighter timings...but it didn't boot ("froze" at Verifying DMI Pool Data again) with these settings at 1T.

I'll give it a shot...but if it boots at 2T and not 1T at all stock DRAM timing options is there simply tuning that needs to be done to get it booting at 1T?

Sorry to be posting so much...but I'm actually making some progress here.

As far as I can see it'll just be timing tweaking to get things where I want them...because I can boot into XP and run benchmarks and whatnot everytime I try at 300x9 1:1 3-4-4-8 1T. Wanna hear something weird, all I did to get it booting at 1T was change Trrd from "Auto" to 7.

I'm not trying to set any performance records here, just wanna get things stable enough to work with for now.

I'll make sure the same settings so far also let me boot at 295x10 1:1...as I know the CPU can bench at 2.95GHz on air (I've done it with this setup) and the bench scores will be much nicer then at 2.7GHz. :p:

I'll keep everyone posted...but aside from performance tuning I'll be happy once I get it booting and benching at 2.5-3-3-6 at either 295x10 or 300x9...but preferable 2.95GHz. :woot:

EDIT: SUCESS!!!!!

It boots at 295x10 1:1 1T and can bench...but scores still suck because the timings I threw at it to get it to boot are completely screwed up. Basically...other then 1T 3-4-4-8 the only other things I changed were setting Trrd, Twr, Twrt and Trwt as slack as possible...and it works.

Just gotta fine tune things to get it going at 2.5-3-3-6 and fix the performance.

Not as far as I've seen...but I'm going back and forth constantly with GSkill via EMail trying to figure this out. They've been very helpfull...and as far as either of us can tell it's still some kind of BIOS setup issue...it's just buggin' the hell out of me knowing that my friend that used this same cpu/mobo/ram had it up to 310 1:1 and I can't figure out what I need for even 290 1:1.

The strange thing is that I've gotten it to boot at 290 1:1 1T CAS2.5 with different DDS/DDDS combinations...but when I restart it will not boot a second time with the same settings...any ideas there?
