I think its worth it, but if you can hold out; hopefully there will be a SB version sometime this year:shrug:
The SB version will have better results(clock-clock performance) and better efficiency

I honestly have my doubts eVGA will be releasing a successor to the SR-2. They don't have the engineers anymore that worked on the SR-2.
Drawbacks? Last BIOS update was in October 2010. Which sucks, because the BIOS is awful. Include 4 BIOS config save locations, yet only one works at a time. Restart your computer, occasionally lose all your BIOS settings. ZERO failed overclock recovery. If an overclocks fails and you have to reset your CMOS it clears the entire bios including the date and time. Hmm what else, o yes, certain DRAM ratios just will not work at certain clocks. I have to overclock the crap out of my ram, so that I can run 1066 DRAM ratio because w/ 800 I lose have my DIMMs. This isn't even everything.
There is no way I'd ever recommend getting an SR-2 unless you are going to be using it for folding@home where it makes outrageous PPD.
I've had two SR-2s since December. And I can count on my hands how many days both have been operational at the same time.
lowfat,
Great info and many thanks. I may just go to a solid server MB.
It's strange that we see these great reviews, and when it comes to Real World reviews-performance, we realize that it's about marketing and sales.
So far this board has been working for me, Good performer for even the average overclocker like myself
Alot can depend on the components you get...but my SR-2 can do games and fold.
----oh and only if you chop down the mightiest Oak with a Herring..
i'm planning a SR2 build very soon, and i have a L5639 and a X5550. Can i run these two together? or will i have problems with this combo? or should i wait and see when SB-E comes in dual socket?
Thanks MM, but my only question els is; at this point, would it be better to wait for some SB-E/IB dual socket instead?
why are evga so slow to update any new bioses :(? this is very annoying
I have a quick question to ask here.
I have a chance to upgrade my X5660's to X5670's. Is it worth the upgrade? Besides the speed difference because of the multiplier, how much better is one vs the other?
Opinions please...thanks!
it's not word it, for that 1 multiplier higher.
what a ment ;)
New BIOS A54
In the meantime, I have found my 24/7 settings :)
Attachment 116881
But my sound goes FUBAR on load :(
just tested it, no problem with sound.
i think it's you're settings that are not so stable that you loose you're sound.
It's FAH, Linx, Prime and IntelBurnTest stable  Some other sound problems are voltage related, but I have tried to change the IOH and VTT voltage and a signal tweak (-30) but no success :shakes:
But I don't want to keep searching because the SR-2 BIOS  On average I have to set up in 3 reboots because if I change everything at once it will not reboot and freeze during post (FF or CF etc.).
I have no suspicion that the overclock is not stable. I really don't know what the problem is :( But I'll continue to change voltages and contact EVGA in the meantime. I don't look forward to an RMA because of all the work involved
Hello everyone. I am getting redy to embark on an SR-2 build. It will be a dedicated folding machine. It may not be a "resonable" build but i want something that will challenge me and be out of the ordinary.
My question is this, does the SR-2 have a complete fit in the Lian Li PC-P80 or is the board a bit bigger than the motherboard tray? In other words, are there enough standoffs on the tray for this board or does it overhang?
Thank you for your reply Linuxfan. I am also open to anyone have suggestions (with reasons) for any other case for the SR-2. I am also looking at the Lian Li PC-V2120.
I bought the PC-P80 "Armorsuit" for my SR-2 build with my Xeons Q3QS, pics are here: http://nl.hardware.info/usersystemen...res#tab:photos
So, I know I could do 200 baseclock but now I'm stuck at 180... So I have to push the VTT (1.35v atm) upwards right? And IOH@1.4v. What's your VTT voltage as I am wondering whether to raise VTT and vCore or just VTT. These ES should be able to do high MHz at low voltage so.
