bios tweaking is very sweet on this board its al i can say to u :)
If you are not going to OC it, then it's a waste of money. It is a great OC'er and should be used accordingly. If you just want to tweak a bit, then go for a lower level X48 or one of the new P45 boards IMHO. WHich is what I did for my brother, he likes a stable system and likes to get a little extra performance from his components so I lightly overclock it for him; I got him a Q9450 and an ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe, he is running them at 400FSB and he is as happy as a pig in $h!t.
PS: P5E3 Premium and P5Q3 Deluxe have almost all the same features, but the P5Q3 is about $150 cheaper; just thought you might want to know that.
just went all out guys, ordered the following
Asus P5E3 premium
Intel core 2 Q9450 + thermalright 120 extreme + noctua cooler
4GB OCZ platinum
BFG GTX 280
2x Velociraptor 300gb's
Auzentech xfi prelude
Blu ray player/dvd RW
Thermaltake toughpower 850W PSU
Antec P182
2 extra noctua case fans
Cant wait to build it now :D
Just got in the 2X2GB Reaper DDR3-1800 which replaced 4X1GB platinum (I had actually been running 2X1GB do to stability issues. Set NB to 1.41 and all else to auto. FSB at 400 MHz which is default. Very stable so far. I may be able to get by with lower NB voltage at this level. Donster, just so you know, OCZ platinum memory has been a real pain in the a$$ with this board. Soapman 72 has had similar problems and is doing well with the Reapers. Next step will be to increase FSB and try to push memory up to 1800 MHz.
I also found the information about the LLC very informative. Thank you for the link Voodo. This board has suffered the same problem with random crashing as the Rampage Formula. I ran into more problems when I was running 4X1GB OCZ Platinum. If I would have known about setting LLC to normal I likely would not have had as much problems. So far so good though with the Reapers.
I still have absolutely ZERO issues with the reapers. I believe I posted a link a couple of pages back, to my bios settings over on the OCZ forum. I am running alot more NB voltage than you are at the moment (1.57v), but this is because I am also running the clock twister setting on STRONGER. On auto, you may be able to get away with 1.49v to 1.53v. But you will have to test that out for your particular board. I also recommend running the LLC to NORMAL or AUTO, as running the PERFORMANCE setting often results in problems under light load. Heavy loads are not a problem, since the Vcore will actually be higher when the load is near 100%. Lighter loads or even an idle cpu often won't receive enough Vcore to be completely stable.
For the record, I tried running 8-8-8-24 vs the slightly looser 8-8-8-27 stock timings, and it was not prime stable. That was without increasing Vdimm. I don't feel that raising the Vdimm is worth the minute improvement in memory performance, so I went back to stock timings. I also tried 460mhz fsb, and that did not even pass memtest, but again, that was without tweaking any voltages. I may have needed more Vcore, NB voltage, or Vdimm for that to work, but I did not get around to playing with any of those. I don't know that I need the increased heat in my CPU, and I certainly will not go past 1.57v to the NB for 24/7 use, so overclocking on this memory may be pretty much out of the question for me. At least it is stable at advertised settings though.
Good luck with the reapers. You should have very little problems setting them up for 1800mhz
Here below are 2 model numbers for the P5E3 Premium WiFi-AP @n
90MIB3L1G0EAY00T
90MIB3L0G0EAY00Z
Both motherbord's looks the same to me but can someone tell more about this.
Hopefully someone can clear this question up. Thank you!!!
those are numbers that inducate the order off building in the line ;)
hey people
just putting my new system together with this board ... this is a really basic Q! Im running at stock but like to tweak settings like the AI overclock tuner etc ... for a Q9450 the FSB is 1333 right? so thats a multiplier of 8 x fsb frequency of 333 = 2600 mhz? please dont laugh ive been outa the game too long lol :P
any help appreciated
Guys im using official bios 0401, just a few questions regarding some settings ive never seen/heard of before ... can anyone tell me what these settings to do and if they should be enabled/disabled ?
Memory remap feature ? its enabled as default
Initiate graphics adapter ? im guessing this is a kind of replacement for init display first ... I.e pci/agp or pci/pcie? peg/pci is the default setting
Peg port control ? auto by default
Peg port force 1x ? disabled by default
Last but not least is ACPI 2.0 ... i know what this is but cant remember if i had it enabled on my a8n32sli, do you guys have this enabled?
Many thanks people :)
bump!!
Hey guys
Just received this board and am having trouble with removing the passive cooling setup. I have unsecured the screws and pushpins but the both the SB and NB do not budge.
Should I let it be?
Not really crazy about breaking out the heat gun, but maybe plugging the board in and running it 4 a bit should loosen up the sh*t they applied on there.
Grrr:shakes:
Ok, Memory Remap is used when you got more than 3gb mem, then u enable this, and you have to have 64bit OS also to get all 4+Gb.
PEG port control, just what it says, it auto controls the PCI-E port.
PEG port Force, yeah also what it says, Force PCI-E to 1X for some reason.
ACPI, i dont know for sure, has to do with the power source of some kind, how the board handles it or something, no one ever speaks of it, so it cant be that important.
regards!
Seems like you are going all out for power. One thing though, getting a GTX280 and a board that does not support SLI is not a great idea since you won't be able to double up your video cards if you decide to do so later on. Go for the 790i Ultra board IMHO; that or drop the GTX280 and hold out for the HD4870X2.
Hi guys! I´m having some trobble with BSOD on my Premium, I have been watching this tread know and uppdated to 503 beta bios. My screen goes black and reboots itself, it´s hapend when I play HOMM5, browsing the internet or watching a movie. BUT my rig is 8h+ houres OCCT blend stable @ 400*9,5 1,56v LLC Enable 800mhz 8-8-8-21 @ 1,76v 1,4xx NB. Heat zinks are hot to the touch but not burning hot. Thinking it could be my board not likning my A-data mems, anyone else got troubble with P5E3 Premium and A-Data? Recently got a new Samsun T220 screens, but i can´t see how that can cause BSOD´s? Could my HD4850 cause this BSOD´s? Is there any way to know if it´s my GFX\MEM\CPU\MB that´s borked?
EDIT 3,3V line for Vodoo

5V a bit shakey...

However never trust OCCT or any windows based program for voltage messurements!
I dont have this problem, or atleast i dont care if my game crashes once in a week or so...
but this problem has been mentioned earlier in this thread, try 2 stuff.... that may help.
Change skew on the RAM, to delay A like 200ps and B 225.
other is to Disable LLC, people have said this make this crashes you speak of.
this board IS tricky when its pushed, not that you are, but just sayin! it freakin making me crazy sometimes :)
Disable LLC and raise Vcore (if necessary) until system is OCCT stable once again.
