he means that is ok for a dual core because it has only one die, so it doesn't matter which way the hole in the bracket goes, but with quads you have two dies to cool so it matters how you position the hole, now according to RLM that way (which is not logical) is better, but we have to see more testing to see which way is better ;)Quote:

Am I correct assuming that horizontal means that the 'EK Supreme' logo is parallel to the PCI slots and vertical means it is parallel to the Ram slots?
Also, how do I know which way the cores are arrranged in MY QX6700 on Maximus Formula? If the IO is left and SATA connectors ar right, are they side but side or one on top of the other?

Now I understand fully why D-Tek made their mounting plate so it was not attached to the block so that you could rotate the block to suit your needs.

I wonder about 2 things.
1. Due to the size of the mounting plate, the top heatsink was pushed off the surface by a few degrees (is that mosfets along the top as well on the P5K?), so I wonder if this had any bearing at all on the temps I found.
2. On a horizontal mount the grooves run in parallel with the cores. the nozzle/jet plate however runs with lines across the cores. I don't understand the physics involved, but might this have any bearing?

If the cpu is mounted the cores will be "on top' of each other, so vertically stacked one could say :)
the little 'cuts' are horizontally placed.
Maybe you could just turn the cpu 90 degrees? :rofl:
Then what RLM found makes sense because the impingement plate spreads the water over both cores, if it were the other way around, the middle impingement slot will jet water between the dies, and the two shorter ones each side would be near enough on top.

With a quad, I'd rather have the water come down between the dies and have 50% of the water cool one die and the other 50% cool the other die. If mounted the "wrong" way, your now asking 50% of the water to cool all the cores and the other 50% to cool the rest of the die. Yes, RLM's test results make no sense to me either, which leads me to believe there is some variable that isn't being taken into consideration here. At this point in time, I can't tell if it's something in his setup, or something wrong with our collective thinking. :shrug: I think that only time and much more testing can tell us the answer to that question.

On topic, I think D-Tek got it right letting you move the block w/o moving the mounting plate, I always wondered though if you want max pressure at the center of the block to maxamizes pressure and contact to the proc die (bowing, step etc) why push on the corners of the water block? I would think some kind of solid cross frame (like a backplate) from the 4 mounting holes to a single screw pushing directly on the center of the water block would give you better contact pressure on the die. Maybe i am missing something as to why this would not work.
