im not home right now but i have 4x 10k RPM SCSI ultra 320 drives that only get about 50mb/s read. my access tim is nice aafter reading a bunch here at 7.7ms. is it my controller card tahts makin it slow? its an adaptec 3200s raid card. it has a 32mb SD ram cache. ill post results when i get home.
anybody checkout my results? looks pretty low on the Transfer Rate...

2x Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500
RAID 0, 128 MB Stripe, ICH8R
I just purchased a 3ed MaXLine Pro 500. I am trying to decide if I should go with a 3 drive RAID 0 or a RAID 5. Would I get a big performance decrease with a RAID 5 ?

2 x 300gig Seagates RAID 0 Only using 40gigs from each drive.
i.e. 80Gig OS Drive RAID 0
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB
This drive performs much better than a stack of different makes 250 GB drives I have. Most average about 50 MB/s TR.
I just downloaded HD Tune after seeing the thread. I have been using HD Tach. I like Tune better because I get almost the same results every time I run it.

Done through a Inland USB 2.0 to ide/Sata adaptor
I'm going to throw this in the case and see if the benchmarks are faster there.
HD Tune: ST9120822AS Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 21.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 31.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 29.6 MB/sec
Access Time : 15.7 ms
Burst Rate : 25.4 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 7.9%
In case, connected to MB sata:
HD Tune: ST9120822AS Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 21.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 43.7 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 34.4 MB/sec
Access Time : 15.5 ms
Burst Rate : 104.9 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 1.4%
The USB interface probably limited the speed in the first, which was flat out to 70%, where both graphs declined at the same rate.
Add:
HD Tune: Maxtor 120Gb 2.5" via USB OneTouch Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 21.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 27.9 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 26.9 MB/sec
Access Time : 16.2 ms
Burst Rate : 20.8 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 65.2%
Slower flat line than the other USB connection, probably because it's powered through there too, where the Seagate had a sep. power supply through the Inland adapter off AC. Flat to 80%, dives off 45 deg. after to min.
I'm curious on those SSDs getting 400mb/sec, spec. the OCZ Core I, are you getting stuttering effects? I'm thinking about buying one Core II at new egg ($79 after rebate) and just putting my OS/Vuze/Office on it ... anyone try this?
they are fine if you take some precautions but ideally you want to run them on a caching raid controller, and the better the controller the better the scaling
Thanks for the quick answer!
85 GB free, single drive with XP sp3, 2 gb OCZ Plat. Rev. 2 800, AMD 5000+ 2.6 @ 2.8, HiPro cheapo 350 watt ps. Gigabyte GA MA78 S2H.
HD Tune: Hitachi HDP725025GLA Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum: 5.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum: 88.5 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average: 74.4 MB/sec
Access Time : 18.3 ms
Burst Rate : 92.7 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 3.2%
Not bad for IDE!
