Well from what I remember when reading through this thread (all of it and not skim reading :)) can't say I remember any mention of peeps using just a 20 pin.

After pulling out my 275 to test in my I7 yesterday I also switch out a 1tb drive I'd been using as a "backup" to the sossaman. I tried connecting it to one of the bottom sata ports (circled in red) but the drive wasn't detected. Tried one of the other two (circled in green) and it worked fine. Daft question but do I need like a certain driver to make those work? :confused:

I also tried a cheapo pci raid card in the pcix slot but that didn't work either. I assume that this is because the board is picky about add in cards? Would anyone be able to point out a card they're using / is known to work?

Just checking these are the right settings.
Ide configuration;
Onboard 2 port sata channels [enabled]
Configure sata as raid [disabled]
Pci configuratioin;
Onboard 4 port sata [enabled]
Onboard 4 port sata ROM [enabled]
Onboard 4 port sata Mode [native sata]
Pci priority arbitration [disabled]
MMIO above 4gb [disabled]
Not sure what those last two are. The os hdd is an ide. Good to go?

I ended up sticking to the CoolJag Falcon Mini's for the CPUs.. & added the stock green LED fans that came with them, which I hadnt done before.
the reason I gave it away was, I cannot justify keeping a PC that only serves one purpose (I dont pay the bills around here) & I had 'out-grown' sossys capabilities: I needed something which could take more HDDs.. plus the 32-bit only was a lil annoying

Around 80-100W. Depends on the stuff you have connected to it and the power supply efficiency.
Well that's cool. I'd just have 1 HDD, no optical, no cards of any sort, and like an Antec 380w. Or maybe even a PicoPSU. That would be cool :D
Be aware it has an 8 pin CPU power, and you can't just stick a 4 pin on the one side like most boards, because one CPU is on one half, and one on the other half. So you'd need either a psu with an 8 pin connector, or a 4pin to 8 pin adapter.
Or.... what I did isn't really kosher, but I stuffed the 4 pin in the center of the 8 pin. Each CPU is such low power they can run off half the 4 pin no problem.
I've made molex-8pins before, that would always work, right?
I guess if it's a pair of ~25w laptop CPUs, surely it would work on a 4pin stuffed in the middle if I've had an i7 ~ 3.4 running on a single 4pin :shrug:

Relating to the PSU...
I know I saw someone having one PSU hooked up to 2 sammies without any issues. Do you think 3 would be possible? I mean the load would not be that much as it is 240-300w total.
I just like sossaman rigs.
what heatsinks are people using?? are the holes the 603/604 socket?

Several months. I forget exactly how long. I ended up selling one of them (along with most of my other crunchers at the time) as money got real tight for me for a while. Never had an issue with them running that way, and the indirect airflow from the two front fans kept the CPUs around 42C loaded. And, it was very quiet :)Quote:

I think my mobo has a bad ram slot. I rma'ed 1 stick of ram. When the replacement came in I had the same trouble. Rig would not boot with ram in the second slot. Moved it to the third an it boots fine. I guess it will be ok to run this way.

okay well tried one stick very where and was not happy then tried another and she fired right up. So im suspecting that stick is bad. Other question if I had four sticks if single sided memory would I just fill from the top of the board down for correct memory configuration. If you're going to fill the memory slots from the top down, make SURE you do it in pairs. If you fill an odd number of slots in the pattern 1a, 1b, 2a, then the last modules won't be read. If you fill them 1a, 2a, 3a then they will. The first pattern triggers the board to try and run in dual channel mode which makes the single module at the end the odd-man-out so it gets ignored. The second pattern keeps it in single channel mode so it's all used.
