OMG Chuckbam you're a genius!

That link was a HUGE help!

400MHz FSB wasn't trying no matter WHAT I did! So I tried 402MHz FSB, and BAM, booted right up. Well, it crashed but that was because my CPU was at like 1.35Vcore, so I bumped it up to 1.45Vcore and now it's in Windows! I dont know how stable it is, since I haven't stressed it, but it's a HUGE step in the right direction! I mean, I literally went from constant restarts and BSOD's at the Windows splash screen, to actually booting all the way in and typing out this response. :D

I'll keep you guys informed on my progress, this is very exciting news! I didn't want to have to upgrade my motherboard, lol.

So I've been running the last 2 days without a single problem at 3.66GHz (407x9) @ 1.425Vcore. Scored around 14.8k 3Dmarks on a single 8800GTX. I'm very very happy. When I go 64-bit and install the 8GB of RAM, I might have to tone down the OC alittle, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Hello again,

Something wrong with my computer because it won't boot up at all like Blank screen.

I just got Artic Freezer 7 Pro to replace the Stock Heatsink so I remove the E6300 out of the motherboard to clean off the Thermal. I was using Kleenex with Ipho Alcohol to clean off. Then, I put on the new Artic 5 Silver Thermal paste on the processor using the instruction from the their website (Thermal Line on the Processor). Then I put it on Artic Freeze 7 on the Processor when it was done putting back in the Mobo. I had hard time installing the Cooler like I probably scraped the Processor but I didn't see any scratches on it. I turned on the computer, it boot up first time like new CPU installed, System Halted so I press the Power Button again and it booted up and I check the Temperature and they were fine with 38C for 3GHz (2.8V). Then, I restarted the Computer, it won't boot up anymore. So, I redid the Processor again with new thermal paste. It still did the same thing. The Mobo light still on, I even turned off the Power Supply to reset and waited for a min.

So, does it sound like I damaged my Processor or the Motherboard?

Sorry about your problem... Sounds Frustrating. I have been there.

Why don't you first unplug the power cord and take out the battery for 30 sec. So you clear the bios real good. When the battery is out, take out the RAM and re-install. Then, try to boot without any overclock.

If that does not work, Take the CPU out and check the pins on the CPU/ Motherboard socket. It will be EZ to see if any are bent pins. If yes, you may want to remove the board completely and see if you can fix any bent pins with a razor blade.

Hi Chuck,

The first step you mention got me booted up again! It is ******* frustrating.

Now, my CPU is running at 50C idle in the BIOS for 3GHz with 1.28V which I'm not happy about it. I remounted 3 times and did the thermal paste three times now. I mounted fine, I'm pretty sure Artic Silver Pro 7 doesn't get that high. Any idea why? I can keep remounting it until I get better temperature maybe in the 30s. The Mobo is 28C at start up.

Happy you are going and no bent pins. Make sure your case has good venation. It takes a while for the thermal compound to set. Also, you should shut down and let the CPU cool to room temp now and then for a period of 2 to 3 weeks. You may not want to OC for a while.

It is to soon to worrie about heat. Plus an E6300 is only a 1.86 GHz CPU, so you are overclocking the hell out of it. I don't care what people say, Core temp .... Nothing. You mesure the CPU heat in the center of the die. Your thermal specs are 61.4°C. You V Core is only 85V – 1.5V. So you are cranking the hell out of that also. You may want to back off for a while and enable C1E.

So should I stick with Stock Speed for 2-3 weeks? I got my CPU Temp down to 42C at 3.2GHz so I think its Okay for now and how far down would you THINK it decrease the CPU Temp?

The Term Compound will need to set. I think it needs to setup before you even start th B IN period.

right now I am 40c and I have been running 24/7 for 15 days. I test my system by looping Prime95 and 3DMARK06 together. I have never had a throttle down. 30c is kinda unattainable with Air.

Cuz was thinking of getting one, wanted a Q6600 but with the new cpu sockets coming at the end of the yr dont think it worth it

The Xeon E3110 is basically an E8400 and my P5B Deluxe runs the E8400 like a champ, so it should also run the E3110. With the Q6600 costing $200 at MicroCenter or $189 at Fry's (Outpost.com) so I read, if you want it, get it.

well I guess they went back up at fry's and are $200 at MicroCenter but it gets The product you requested is no longer available

Figured I tack a little something on this thread just in case anybody else was wondering.

The P5B Deluxe WILL support HD3870's in Crossfire (and it actually works fairly decent)

Process:

Shut down, install card.
Under NB configuration enable CGI
Under SB configuration set the second PCI-E slot to x4

Boot into Windoze XP
Allow everything to install, it should happen automatically
reboot, you should now have Crossfire in the CCC, enable and enjoy.

Vista X64 Premium, pretty much the same deal, it sets up everything for you even enables CF for you. Of course it then disabled both my freaking displays.

I get the same stuttering in the CPU tests in '05 as I did when I ran SLI'd 6800GS's on this board, so obviously the second slot at x4 will cause issues with some apps. But I'm not forking out the dough for a X38 or X48 based board.

CPU wise anyway, there's really visible stuttering in '05 and '03 CPU tests, at 2fps it just wouldn't be visibly noticeable in '06

G0, nice and stable at 3.6Ghz, above that it requires an unhealthy amount of voltage and isn't exactly stable. I've managed to bench at 3.735, but I think I may have encountered some throttling at that speed as the scores were lower than the 3.6 runs.

I got it more for quad displays anyway, though it's a bonus that CF works, and it can be enabled with multiple monitors active, unlike SLi back when I last ran that.

well adding an Antec Spot-cool - above the northbridge seems to have helped my x9, with high memory speed overclocks ...

ie 3.4 ish gig with memory at 1100MHz ..

dropped the northbridge temp by about 5C at idle and load, seems to have made all the difference on the overclock

When does everyone's FSB hole begin and end? I'm running 365 right now and it seems to be fine, while some people say their "hole/wall" begins as early as 333 Mhz? Seems the "hole" for most people ends at ~400..

445 + is a problem though - but could be CPU limited

366 was fine for me, 400 was terrible, 401 and up was just fine. (485 stable with an E6300)

may be a daft question - and haven't the time to perform loads and loads of benches - but what would be best for gaming/general performance on the P5B

between say

355x9 with RAM at 2:3 (1066 CAS5)

and

401x8 with RAM at 1:1 - CAS4

not sure how the strap effects things ?

latency is definately higher with the 2nd one - but then the fsb is also higher

can bench at 475 with my X3350 :D but not prime, think it needs more NB volts cuz the Q can run 475 like nothing but the E6400 needed it to be cold to get 475

I have a P5B Dlx and a Q9450 and can't have it working.
I have tried everithyng. I have 3 KITS 2X2GB of RAM:
Gskill 8000 PQ
Corsair 6400C5DHX
Team Group 800Mhz

I have up the Vcore to 1,4. In load it drops to 1,3x.
I have tried different settings in everything else with no go.
I'm using BIOS 1226 because it is the only BIOS that seems to have compatibility with this CPU although wen the PC starts i must press F1 because I have a message that says that I need another BIOS to have the full power of the CPU.

I don't have BSOD. It shutdown without BSOD.

Has anyone a Q9450 on a P5B Dlx working?
What setup do you have to run without problems?

so far I can get 490 but not in windows :(
