Ok, so how do you tell if it's an E4 or E6? Pardon my ignorance. Sounds like I need an E4.
I may take a drive over to Fry's today to see what they have in the cage. (well, give them a piece of paper and have them look for me!). Price is still fairly high at Fry's though, I think....... Then there's that nuisance California sales tax :mad:
OK well the first thing you want to look for is (if you want an E4) is on the top line it ends in BV. Now if you want an E6 it will end in CD. Second I would look for the lowest week there is like mine is 0526 so you want to look for something thats low like that. Next you want to look at the last 4 #'s on the last line thats the batch# lower is better. This the way I look for a chip. I also write down what they have and come home and search the forums for that stepping and see what others are getting with it..Quote:

That part I really dont know about but it looks like the CDBHE and the UPBW's are good oc'er. justw00 and perc both had CDBHE 0527 UPBW's that did very well. In fact I just bought perc's chip.. But also look for the batch# the lowest you can get.Quote:

Interesting, that some people are seeing Toledo's, when it would seem that the Manchesters (E4) are better overclockers. Curious.
I CANNOT WAIT to build this thing. I'm hoping that when the R520 comes out it'll a) be great and I'll get it & finally move to PCI-E, b) it will suck and drive the price down on the 7800GTX, and c) at the same time we'll see some new mobos come out that give alternatives to the current DFI line, and all the others that cant clock as well & have their own problems.
Nice find! I am doing something like this for XS on my X2 OC thread. BioVader has a nice chip I have seen it over at ocforums. I have gotten different chips to test them and see how they oc. But everytime I get one someone wants it so I end up selling it. LOL. This weekend I am going to get my thread updated with all the steppings that I can find and the highest oc for each category air, water and phase cooling for each chip type. Its gonna be alot of work but I'll get it done.
Sweet. I think, if anything, the one in your sig has been the highest. Now, I don't know how much that has to do with being naked and all...................something I don't know if I'll have enough balls to do..

Hey guys, got myself a 3800+ X2 a couple of days ago, I'm testing for stability using CPU Burn In on both cores with its error detection turned on. Cant remember the full stepping, just threw it in the socket in my excitement, but its a week 28 chip (E6 revision if that helps too), got it from overclockers.co.uk. I will dig out the rest of the details later.
2.65GHz stable ~1.39 volts
2.7GHz testing now @ 1.408 volts
took my heatspreader off replaced with AS5 and temps went up, lol.
You took the IHS off and put AS5 then put it back on? Cuz if your temps went up then you prolly just have poor contact!Quote:

well its either hte mounting or clogged jets. it hit 84c and then the comp shut down. I'm gonna get it checked out before i do anything further

S&M 1.7.2 (maybe newer versions will do this)
Start speedfan, etc first so you can monitor what is happening.
Run the power test and wait for 6 mins, then watch what happens during the VGA test (go to monitoring tab). You will have to prolly have to keep hitting the reset tab to keep it going. You may find that it disappears when hitting this part of the test.
This was what happened when testing a new chip that I got last Thursday.
This test was after sucessfully running large FFTs using 865mb apiece for 10hrs and OCCT on the 'weak' core for a few hours, when S&M on both cores for a run (after I got past the VGA test, the mem stuff was a breeze).
Also, ahs anyone actually GOTTEN OCCT to run @ 2 instances at the same time? :confused: )
Had to knock Vcore up a notch or S&M would disappear @ VGA test time. After I got it stable (meaning no bybye here) CPU went from 35->38c and PWN from 44 (2x D2oL now) to 55c :shock:. But I know it is working now.
Got to get some more candies up for D2oL, so will try some other stuff next week.
Well I ran two instances of prime with CPU volts set at 1.525 in BIOS and reported to be 1.48 by CPU-Z, got the results shown in the screenie. Ive just built a PC for a mate and got to keep it for a while. His is a week 31 E4, I've just thrown that in at the same settings as my week 28 E6, and prime fails instantly on CPU 0.

Well the problem with spi sounds like ram issues. What is your ram and settings? When you run prime are you setting it up the correct way and what test are you using?Quote:
