Did the 1.5v u-wire mod and it boots :D
Seems that these 2.0GHz LV xeons dont like 1.6v.
Time to install the rig in my Vapo Case (without the Vapo unit) and start to install windows.
Thanks to everyone. Thanks a problem down ;)

Problem after problem with my xeon rig lol.
Works fine now, but no internet. Cant get it to work with my dads pc over the network. My dads is the internet gateway for the network.
Usually when I format I hook up the pc to the network and I get internet without setting anything up. With the PC-DL it didnt do this. I went thru the share internet wizard thing and all that on both rigs restarted and still nothing :(
Anyone got any suggestions?
Can you ping your dad's rig? And is there some random Firewall setting that's causing trouble? That was the problem when I was trying to use TightVNC on one of my rigs, the firewall didn't like it

I'l have a look at the firewall settings tomorrow. I think there are settings when you run the wizard but I dont think they are enabled.
Losing valuable, Cruching and Folding time here :(
get the 4 instances of D2OL installed, then run them on another comp to get the canidates, then move the program back to the computer and start crunchin' :D
jjcom
Intresting idea ;)
I'l have a read up on D2OL canidates and stuff. Nevar ran it before  :p:
You probably need to install the NIC drivers if you haven't yet.
NIC driver? Sorry you lost me...
OMFG... I just booted it up and we have Internet :D
so, that means that u r up and crunching?
On my A64 rig ;) Waiting for it to download the 4 agent personal installer on my xeon rig ;)
The driver for your network card.Quote:

Thanks.
Reading all this info on Xeon rigs convinced me to build one myself :slobber: (and get some serious crunching done)
Problem 1: get me a couple of CPU's... found a 'shop' on ebay who's selling no less then 6 1.6 LV's ES QQV2 , at a not so cheap price I guess... (are they worth the 199€'s each or not?)
Problem 2: seems like you have to do some serious soldering to give those rams the juice they really like, and I'm one of those guys who can destroy anything with a soldering tip :( (Maybe I can convince Rocker to do it for me, he seems to get the hang of it anyway :p: )
Problem 3: I would like to put the whole set in a desktop-case, won't I have a serious overheating problem since those cases are rather small... will it be possible to create a decent airflow in a desktop-case? Has anyone ever tried to put a dual-rig in such a 'cramped' space?
1.) thats a bad price, I wouldn't get 'em.
2.) You don't have to mod the board, you can get different RAM that doesn't need more volts. Some RAM using Hynix chips and a divider would work fine I'm fairly sure, might want to wait someone else's reply on this one to confirm.
3.) Yeah, could use a duct to help keep the processors cool. Just put some 120mm fans in the case above the CPUs and use some nice fans on the heatsinks and have a good fans blowing air of the case. I wouldn't think it would cause any problems. Maybe lesser overclock, but it could be done

I'm using some TCCD ram and it runs fine at 2-2-2-5 with the stock 2.5V.Quote:

So I guess it's hunting time, got to find me a couple of cheap Xeons... :yepp:
Would a couple like this be worth around 200€?
Or is it better to look for two with same numbers?
if it's a matched set, they are worth it.
and I believe the numbers you need to check for matched pairs are on the front of the CPU's (heatspreader :) )
I would try to find some 2.4 GHz w/ D1 or MO stepping.
Now that's a pretty good deal I would think. 2.8ghz Prescott's should clock fairly well
jjcom
They're not a matched pair, so I won't take the risk... and I'm not in a hurry to spend money right now, just bought a 55.000€ car today :D
Of course, if I find a nice (read: 'really cheap') matched pair, I'll digg up the cash and go for it :rocker:
Here are the prices you should expect to pay on eBay for a pair of chips:
1.6 LV D1s $150-$200
2.4 LV D1s $225-$275
2.4 D1s $225-$275
2.4 M0s $275-$350
2.8 D1s $250-$300
2.8 M0s $275-$350
3.06 D1s $375-$425
My experience is that the M0s OC about the same(3.4 GHz fullload D2OL) but people prefer 2.4 M0s because they can boot at 200 FSB.
Sometimes prices shoot through the roof but you must be patient.
Right now there are 2 pairs of 1.6 LV D1s on offer at 2cpu.com. And of course I am selling a pair of 2.4 LV D1s to make room for M0s.
Good luck.

Those are Noconas, won't work on a PC-DL.Quote:

You may need another CPU to flash the BIOS, or someone to do it for you.
