Yeah I got mine last week and it doesn't OC as well as the older models im thinking.. I'm not sure if a volt mod will improve anything, its already steamy hott.. i think ill wait until they get that XT silencer out
Right now the highest I can reach stable is 420/380
my 9800pro with R360 core can do 440/370 without the mod and after it can do 465/385 the ram will not go any higher even if i push 3.20v :/ so right now its at 2.95v and the GPu is at 1.80v.
are now all 9800 Pro have the R360 Core
or only the Version with 256 MB Ram ?
Most 9800Pro's now are coming with r360 cores / both 128 and 256MB ...

Hello everyone,
I purchased the Sapphire 9800 Pro 256Mb from www.newegg.com (for $268 USA if I remember correctly). After installing, someone on here pointed me to this thead. The picture above looked very much like the card I purchased, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and try to flash the BIOS.
I found a modified BIOS for the Sapphire 9800 XT 256 MB @ http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/bios.php. I also downloaded the ATIFlash v1.6 (found on the bottom of the page), copied both to a floppy and booted to DOS for some flashing. I made a backup of the original bios first (atiflash -s 0 backup.bin) then flashed the new BIOS (using the FORCE option). Rebooted into Windows XP. As the desktop was loading I saw the "Found New Hardware: Radeon 9800 XT" message as Windows loaded it's generic drivers. I redownloaded the newest drivers from the ATI Website and installed them and rebooted. First boot up did not go as planned. When I got to the logon screen for Windows, my color depth was only 8bit. I logged in and soon my monitor went whack on me. I had to pull the plug and count to 10 then plug the machine back in. When it booted this time, I again got 8bit color depth, but my monitor didn't go whack. I went into the display settings and changed it back to 32bit color and readjusted the monitor size for both monitors as needed. All works fine now. Under Display Settings/Advanced/Adapter, windows reports it as

I do not see any additional options (as I hoped for) under Display Settings/Advanced (like Core Speed) so I do not know if this was actually flashed to be and perform like a true Radeon 9800 XT or its still operating as as Radeon 9800 Pro with a different BIOS string.
Are there any utilities that I can download and test out the performance and internal information for the Radeon (like Memory Clock, Card ID, Core Clock, Memory, etc).
The difference (if I read it correctly) should be:
9800 Pro: Core Clock: 378Mhz - Memory Clock: 338MHz
9800 XT: Core Clock: 412Mhz - Memory Clock: 365Mhz
BTW: the Bios title for 9800 Pro should have read: "R360 Hynix DDR BIOS W THERMAL CONTROL - P/N 113-A18805-105 (using Hynix 2.5)" and the Bios title for 9800 XT should read "RADEON 9800 113-A18807-100 BIOS" (not sure what memory). I do not know how this relates to DDR2 memory.
If I can find any utilities for testing the above information I will post my findings here ASAP.

It seems any new 9800 Pro's are shipping with R360 cores, if you get something stuck on a shelf somewhere you might get a R350, which would be better IMHO on a 128MB card ;)Quote:

do i get this right. your card still shows as 9800pro? if so, did you remove the old display drivers (completely)?. could help. i removed my complete cats + cp and reinstalled the latest ones at the time 4.2 or 4.3 (dunno). with cp4.2 came the overdrive tab - and as you flashed it to 9800 xt, it should give you the temp-diagnosis and the enable overdrive thing, which basically is crap as it will not go much higher than default (418 core, irrc). so once you flashed you should be reading 9800xt in the control panel.Quote:

if you want to check on detailed temps and such install rivatuner. you'll be able to check on both clocks and the core-temperature as well as ambient.
a good tool to test is the one you're already using - ati-tool. plus a round of 3d-benching 03 preferably proxycon, trolls & mother nature (most likely to see sparkles in the water) or aquamark, tho that always ran with higher clocks for me without showing sparkles, but it's easier to detect them there as it is mostly displaying darker colors.

The only new option you will see is the Overdrive tab. If you install and use the Omega version of the drivers, and install the optional Radlinker, the clock speeds will show in your driver panel on the Radlinker tab. Also just so you know its not DDR2, its Hynix 2.5ns DDR.Quote:

Also if ATITool says you are running at 412/365 your card was flashed correctly. 3DMark will also detect it as a 9800XT.
has artic cooling released a hsf for us modders? i want one so badly
as i can see you have searched a lot for pro @ XT,does anyone know which is the best performance bios for that mod?
