i have bought four thermal take A one heatsinks and i have broken plastic hintches and mount them normally.Dont drill the board,later today i will post pics of the quad and the Arima nm model.
give me some time to get back home.
My 8347s should be waiting for me by the time I get home (two anyway). So I'll know tonight if the setup fires up. Maybe I'll have some WCG units rolling in by this time tomorrow.

Nothing going post wise, either cpu in socket 1 or any combination of ram. Using a PCP&C 610 silencer and it has the needed connections. Getting fans but no beeps and it responds to power down presses. Anyone know a trick to these guys?

Make sure cpu0 is filled and cpu0_dimm1-4 is filled. Try just that combo
Edit: if that doesn't work I think you're SOL. Everything I can find on that board lists compatibility with 2000 series opterons only
Manual calls for starting on slot 7-8. May not be labeled the same as the quad board. Not even getting a beep code with no ram installed though so not thinking RAM for now.

I haven't read through this whole thread yet and was wondering, how many PPD (WCG points)are you looking at with the 4 x 8347's. :shrug:

Nah, I've used up my testing trick pool. I bought a 2212 to test with, as I'm betting on CPU compatability issues at this point. If I'm limited to 2000 series CPUs I'll just grab a pair of 23xx quads when I see a good deal and save the 8347s for a quad board. So unless someone has some tips I'll know more in a few days. Playing with random server parts sure is fun, been a long time since I've tried to put together something I wasn't sure was going to work or not.
i was going to suggest that next. i read in an earlier thread that if you update to the v1.8 bios it should allow 8000 series quads to work. might try that
Nice, I was hoping that'd be the case. The 8000 quads are much easier to find cheap.

There should be no difference between 2xxx and 8xxx, they all came out at the same time and a board which will run one will run the other. Are you running the onboard VGA or an external card? There's a jumper to switch between the two, check it's in the right place...
Also check the manual to see if there's any jumpers that govern booting to a serial console (which you want to disable) or other such oddities
Using onboard, only option unless I crack a pcie slot open. I've been over everything obvious manual wise, switched the onboard vga off then back on, reset BIOS etc. I've got a deffective board, it doesn't like the CPUs or there is some oddball thing I'll never spot on my own. CPU is the only thing I can check for sure at this point so headed that direction.
What's the specs on your RAM?
they're ddr2 ecc reg pc2-4200. we have the same ramz
