I just listed my 9950 140w with a 3day auction on ebay last night, I am rolling on a 4200+ @ 3.02ghz right now...Deneb better make it here lol..I borrowed the chip from the bedroom MCE:p:

Yeah, I too am nervous beyond 3.224ghz. I have had some wierd shutdowns and BSODs that gave me pause. Nothing weird with ACC, just enough other weirdness to give me pause. Plus your voltage requirements and heat generation rise exponentially above 3.2, at least with my mobo and stepping.
I had the same exact issues, it looks like it happens at a set amperage since mine occured around 1.55v @ 3ghz and I wouldnt be suprised if 3.2 @ 1.4x volts = 3.0 @ 1.55-1.6 = xxx Amps = FET max
Heh I hear ya loud and clear. I am so glad.... SO glad I did not go i7. Everything I feared about it looks to be turning true. Several people who have bought retail 920s from unreleased stock are having issues past 3.8.
In addition *EVERYONE* is getting 80C*+ Load temps (some over 100c* on water cooling) which is FRIGHTENING to say the least.
Nobody is getting 80C load temps on a Core i7 at stock settings. If you overclock it like crazy on a crappy cooler, sure you will see 80C temps. You would on a Phenom if you OC'd it like crazy as well.Quote:

Core i7 overclocking is still an unknown at this point (not enough data) but 3.6-3.8 looks to be possible on the chips, including the i7 920. If you do things that actually take advantage of the CPU, like rendering or encoding, then in that kind of situation it is going to be like having a 5GHz C2Q.
Deneb will likely consume less power than Nehalem, but performance will be lower; perf/watt is an unknown right now but I am guessing that Nehalem will be the victor there. In terms of oc'ing..... I highly doubt Deneb is going to get higher than 3.8 either.
I agree though, it is time to see what Deneb is all about. Can't wait till the analyst meeting this week, hopefully we will learn a lot from that.
Adding to your post, which I do agree on, core i7 is still very premature to say anything about it. So far results are good and they will only get better as the chip matures and little bugs here and there get fixed.
Now about the Deneb? Hopefully I can get one when released. I can't wait till bugs get fixed hahaha.
Newegg is selling Phenom X4 9950 for 115$

"Open Box" & "Cooling device not included - Processor Only" for HD995ZFAJ4BGH ? Doesn't say anything about warranty though...
Wow I got new mushkin redlines @ 1066 and it really set off my phenom. Snappy fast. But for the oddest reason ever my Vcore went to 1.424 to 1.432 as soon as I added them. I dont know what that is but w/e everything is running very good so Im not going to complain.
According to HERE you will hit 80C under water at 3.8Ghz! Heck, this chip is 75C at stock under full core load.

There is the post for my first WC of my 9950BE.
Thoughts? Next steps?
this is my 1st shot with my 9950BE

Its prime stable, i wana try and get it to 3.5 maybe 3.6 on 1.4ish
My temps are good, im running a Modded Coolermaster V8 and going from 34c idle to around 40c load. Not sure why but it doesnt show my voltage there. At 3.3 im running 1.325 volts
Ss ?
Yep nuttn there
Must be one cold room?!
Igloo, maybe ?!
I have been running stable at 3.319 at 1.425 cpu/NB and everything else auto. FSB is 237x14.
I just installed water cooling on my cpu and the temps idle are 35 when on air it was 50 so I am happy with the decrease.
I tried jumping to 250x14 and bumped the voltage to 1.5 and ddr to 2.0.
It would get all the way through the windows startup and as soon as the sign on screen would come up it would reboot.
What issues would I be possibly looking at?
More voltage......1.55v should do it for 3.5ghz with this voltage and your cooling you will be able to run 3dm06 and mostly any bench without rebooting or locking up.......3.6ghz will take 1.6v and that will only get you to the desktop running super PI will lock up but thats for me and I have air cooling you should be able to complete super pi but not sure about 3dm
