It's actually not paint but grease that does stay gooey, but it comes off very easily if you make a mistake. Also, I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say it "goes off" after a few weeks. I've had my 1600+ modded for several months without incident.
I killed my 1600+ using it. Actually the paint went down and didn't covered the bridges anymore, when i wanted to redo it i made a mistake and the 1600+ never worked again :(
I finaly got around to putting a 2500+ in my rig, up from a 1700+@2500mhz, at first i couldn't run the chip at 200fsb in my NF7-S 1.2 . It is now running great at 200fsb and will be going for more, I did the L12 mod to bring it back to a 133fsb default and it is working wonders. Thanks to all the great info you guys contributed to the Xtreme I am now a happy camper.
I did the mod but I wasn't getting any peformance boosts from it.... untill i tried bios D10 on my NF7.

hey guys.. whats the easiest way to make my 133mhz 1700 a 166mhz? anyone got some pics of this telephone wire trick? im a visual person, lol..

No the gold thing is some conductive paint but the wire method is the same thing but you don't use paint but a small wire to connect those two pins

so with the wire u actually "plug" it in 2 holes in your cpu socket on your motherboard right?
you can either do that, i don't if anyone has done it, and i think it's quite tricky ; or you take a wire make a circle with it and put it around the two pins

Today i tried the pin mod. It seems to work because i can only select "user defined" cpu settings. I can run @ 240 fsb perfectly with cpu interface disabled so my ram is not holding me back.
Then i tried 230fsb with cpu interface enabled. My pc didn't boot.
Same for 225fsb. I can boot into windows with 223 fsb perfectly.
So after the mod nothing changed :/
Vdd is @ 1.7 Bios 1.6
Any tips? I'm not trying Bios 10d because ive got Sata..
Btw: Ive tried this with my 2400+ and 1800+.

I've been doing the L12 mod to all my chips for a while now & its always worked for me but this time i did both the L12 & 8 bit mod
to a 1700+ DLT3C to be used in a used NF7-S rev2 i picked up. to my surprise when i entered the bios all it showed for cpu was user defined & 3200+. sure enough it booted @ 11x200fsb & 1.5v. now its running nicely @ 2500mhz with 1.725v. on air. my pc2700 craps out @ 227fsb & the Geil doesnt seem to like anything over 230fsb, but i have some Mushkin level 2 pc3500 on the way. im going to see how high i can go with it before throwing my prommie & chiller at it.:D
