So I guess I need to decide if I should order another 165 and hope it performs the same as dogsx2's chips or just be happy with 2.8Ghz @ (1.58 Bios / 1.55 Smart Guardian)

You're on air right? Dude 1000mhz OC is awesome. Keep that 165! If you must sell it, i'll buy it.
Opty 165 CCB1E 0550VPMW @ 2.75GHz w/ 1.425v (click to enlarge):
http://www.eraserinc.com/ihs/images/tn_Jdv62182.jpg
I can get 2.8GHz stable with 1.525v, but I dont think the extra voltage for 50mhz is worth it, at least not with my air cooling.
Couldn't we get a toplist of this? ;)
3.0Ghz @1.63v is what I use 24/7 :D :D I think on WC it probably would do about 2.85~2.90Ghz.Quote:

Going to try to burn it in a bit and lower voltage, but I've already done 8-10 hours of burning at 1.58-1.60 trying to get 2800 prime stable. Safe for 24/7 you think?
anything above 1.6 is dangerous on air, so i wouldnt recommend being that close to 1.6 . also, you should run superPi for stability.
if i was to buy a 170 from either ZZF, monarch, or newegg, what stepping do you guys think i would get for the oem versions and the retail versions? also, if i buy a processor and dont like the stepping can i return it to the place unopened and not have to pay any restocking fee? thanks
I doubt it??Quote:

i'd won't mind buying 0550 UPMW from anyone that is willing to sell it
2700@1.45v is NOT good for a 0530, and yes, i'm looking to buy a 0550 umpw instead.
looks like the 0550 upmw is THE stepping to get, only seen a few results here but so far they all clock like mad, guess I'll have to bid on it at ebay and see what happen

I just ordered 165 from newegg overnight. Will let you all know tuesday if its the 0550 and how it OC's. According to techpowerup the Opti's are goin up in price tomorrow. http://www.techpowerup.com/?8211
Not really, CCB1E 0550VPMW seems to be better (mine at least). foodfightr needs 1.53v for 2.7GHz, my CCB1E 0550VPMW needs only 1.425v for 2.75GHz (306x9). I can do 2.8 stable at 1.525, but I have to place a much larger divider than needed at 2.8 so I keep it at 2.75.Quote:

See, like I said, with dual-core Opterons a stepping doesn't matter as much as single-core Opterons. (Maybe except those 0530TPMW) Nightprowler's 148 does 3160MHz on ASUS but the 175(!) does 2607MHz @1.45V. There seem to be alot more factors that get involved than steppings. My guess is motherboard + BIOS + Dividers + Multies + Temps + ETC. :D
My 0547TPMW does 2808MHz (9x312) @1.42V (Air-cooled). So far most consistent steppings that I've seen are 0530TPMW and 0546XPMW.
The 148 is water cooled (Switech Storm BIX3 rad) and the temps are low (40 Full load) compared to my Opteron 175 (54C) full load.. Haven`t tested any higher than 2.6ghz cause of the temps, but it`s stable as a rock.
On default vcore I could Prime at 2.5 ghz but had to increase all the way to 1.45 to get 2.6ghz stable…

Hi!
I have a problem with StressPrime:
I have an Opteron 175 so i launch two StressPrime and then set manually the affinity both in the prog and in taskmanager---> when i start, the first StressPrime effectively stress the 100% of core, but the second only stress 5-10% of the second core...
The same happens with Prime95 torture test - blend (and StressPrime is in fact the blend torture test of Prime95...) but not with the others two options of torture test.
Rename the exe files and launch from different directory does not help.
How can i solve this?
Thanks
your saying that you have copied the whole prime folder (or SP2004), and run both exec's, then selected a different core to prime on each seperate program?
If you have then im stumped.
All that i have is SP2004.exe
When i start the prog create ini files.
I want to run this prog on each core stressing 100% but i can't: for some reason only the first exe launched stress the cpu core at 100%, but the second copy stress the other core at 5-10% in media, randomly at 100%.
I tried to rename the file and also to start each exe from different directory, same result.
Someone can tell EXACTLY what i must do for running StressPrime on each core, stressing 100%?

Hey guys I just bought a Opty 165 from someone who said it ran flaky on his MB at default mulitplier. He had to drop it down to 8x to get it to OC. I got the chip for $240 shipped and it's only a couple days old. Did I do well?
This is the reported stepping i'm getting CCBWE 0550UPMW
You did well as long as it's not a "flaky" CPU. I personaly would not have bought it if it was described the way you described it.Quote:

I have a dual opty 252 and in just about every application I use this system performs as well if not better than a machine costing substantially more.
I just got the same as iMAX! Mine came from Rainbow-IT here in the UK.
ok 0550 umpw retail box from newegg. dual priming as we speak out of the box first boot at 300*9 for 2700mhz. 121 fahrenheit 49 celsius while priming. air cooling w/zalman. If i dont get any higher i'll be happy.

@nugzo How long did you dual prime for- did you use small FTT?Quote:

Don't waiste your money unless you need the higher multiplier. I haven't seen a 165 yet that will not hit 175 speeds on default voltage. So the yields on these chips must be very good and it all comes down to luck of the draw. The 175 hasn't shown any better results than the 165 but there are some exceptional chips in both ranges.:fact:Quote:

Initial results look promising. Fired right up at 2.6ghz.... went to 2.7Ghz.... still a go.... tried 2.8Ghz on stock voltage and finally core 1 failed prime. I backed it down to 2.75Ghz and just bumped the voltage to 1.45V. Dual prime is running for about an hour now @ 42C. OCCT passed so I am guessing prime will pass- at least thats my experience.
I could probably get this to 2,8Ghz with 1.5v or so, but 2.75Ghz at 1.45 will be just fine with me on my lowly air cooled rig.
That's about what mine does... It takes some pretty good voltage past 2.8 to get it to go higher but it definately goes like a raped ape w/o the IHS and some voltage :)Quote:

Damn nice chip mate!
What's wrong with your waterblock though? That CPU temp is HIGHHHH for watercooling, specially with that low of voltage.
Tried reseating it lately?

The IHS is still on...YES ithe sucker is still on!!! This stepping reminds me of my single core 148 CABNE, it has EXCELLENT memory controller as I can use the exact same timing as the CABNE wherea in the past I'd always had to relax the timing for all my X2  the 0546 XPMW that I received from ZZF last friday needed 1.63v to do 3.0Ghz, 1.60v always result in core 1 failed prime instantly....won't even last 2 seconds! Since the newer 0551 stepping is starting to hit the street and their overclockability is still unknown I'll see if I can get my hands on few more of these 0550 UPMW :slobber:

I haven't try lower vcore or higher clock, it's still priming at the moment but I'll yank the IHS later and see how far I can push this beast!!
:woot: :woot:
i cant help but notice that your cpu temp is 1C, i would be impressed if this was on normal air, or possibly water, but it looks like your cooling is even better.
Im currently dual priming at 2.8G with 1.48vcore on stock shuttle air, super PI 32m already passed.
it's a single stage phase change, it doesn't matter you're impressed or not as I just wanted to post my result to share with other folks  I am very please and very impressed and that's all matter. 0546 XPMW that I just yanked out was naked and needed 1.63v to do 3.0Ghz on the same phase change, once I remove the IHS the load temperature during dual priming should be somewhere around -5~-10C' this is a dual core for crying out loud so the massive heatload is to be expected. Out of curiousity I stopped the prime and dropped the vcore down two more notch, it's still priming away at the moment and the underload temperature is more like it now :woot:

Weird I thought my post went through last night. Hey guys. I have a brand new 0546 XMPW sitting on my table until I get my 7800gtx to finish my rig. I noticed that It got pretty good clocks ive kept onto it for a while. You guys are going nuts over the 0550 UMPW. Should I sell this off for $400 and try to risk buying a 170 from either newegg or another online retailer and if so, what online retailer will give me the best chance? (im looking for retail 170 only). I want 2.7ghz 24/7 stable the easiest way possible with my TTBT at under 1.5v. Im usin a DFI Expert and 2gb Gskill HZ.

I can clock it high without failing Prime (got it to ~2.8GHz) but I will randomly get these BSOD while Prime is running and hasn't errored. In some instances, I can get it not to BSOD at all (within a single windows session) but when I restart and "tweak" the bios I get the BSODs again at <2.7GHz (where I've been stable in the past).
Any ideas?

Can you put the IHS back on? I consider taking it off while running air, but if I go back to phase, I think it will be best to have it on.
