@ zeeke, no, water. It is a Swiftech 6002 waterblock from my nf4. Mag 3 and a Coleman cooler. :)
I made the vmch boost mod, but I got the same 451Mhz FSB, which is only SP1M stable.
Must I make the vfsb mod too?
I got nothing from the vfsb mod. But im thinking its my cpu thats causing the glass ceiling. I definately need a newer week cpu soon.
I tried the vmch booster mod and for whatever reason the solder would not bond the wire to one of the points.
On another note i've lost all stability after weeks of being orthos blend stable for hours@3.8ghz. This happened a couple days ago and i went back and tried past bios updates and still couldnt get stable. Then all of a sudden the board wouldnt boot, i had to remove the battery and clear the cmos before it came back on. Once it booted, i ran orthos and it ran 5hours blend at 423fsb. Now its not running orthos again. I think im going to remount my evap and hopefully that'll be it because i really like the board and mine seemed to be one of the better ones.
Before anyone chimes in about this being an orthos thing, i did check with sp2004 and prime. Neither run for very long on my board anymore. Not to mention the fact that dual instances of sp2004 and prime isnt a full load on both cores in task manager.
Edit- There seems to be something with the current crop of stability testing programs. There havent been any updates in a while so its hard to say if its our computers or the programs. Tony and bingo13 have said they are having a hard time with orthos on RD600 also.
@ Lalaboy, the vfsb mod helps my oc considerably.
@ MrDeeds, yes, the solder on the board seems like it takes a high heat. Also I think there is a difference between some boards, slight as it may be. Another thing, I tried to run sp2004 and could not get two instances to run correctly no matter what proceedure was done to meet that end. I just gave up and ran a dual 32m Pi's.
The vfsb mod, as shown here,http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...4&postcount=21 can be done without soldering to your board. Soldering to the ic is to me anyway difficult. It takes heat next to the chip plus my hands are like well fat and rough. Like a ball glove when it comes to this. Use grabbers and solder them to the vr. Just have to watch that they only come in contact with the 4 and 6 legs and something like the graphics card don't come in contact with them causing movement when it is installed. I'll get a pic in a few min.
Edit** I guess they are called micro grabbers. Available at Fry's and maybe Radio Shack. I only have one free right now but you can get the idea. I know these are not new but still may help someone. Can't get thumbs to post, just have to do links.

vfsb readout can be done the same way.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9...readoutho5.jpg
i did the vFSB mod with soldering iron and solder...
i had to use an extra bit of solder but i finally got it to stick.
it took me a LONG time to do it though...
If i make the (Micutzu) Vfsb mod, is enough the simple resistor (100K), or I have to use vario resistor?
I`m a beginner sorry!:)
you have to use a variable... with a fixed one you wont be able to change the voltage unless you want a fixed
Yeah, grabbers work fine for Vfsb, just a hassle to bend it around the heatpipe for SB.. but if you want to see some serious FSB on this board you have to replace the NB sink and then u might as well change the SB sink as well
Looks like ORTHOS has some issue with this board.
I tried running dual Prime95 (Small FFTs) at 451FSB @ 2.0vMCH and it ran for almost 9 hours without erroring out. Halted the dual Prime95s and ran ORTHOS blend, errored out on the 58th minute. Dang...

it's the board... blend and aw9d don't mix :)

That did not do nothing , i'm sorry to say. Any other suggestions? It will be preciated.
Hi ,
I need urgent help with Abit AW9D Max. It has locked itself at 6x multi and we couldn't change it whatever we've done...
Cpu is X6800 ES....
I'll be very happy if anyone who knows the way to fix this problem
URGENT :stick:

This thread is useless without a real bios update!
You could try pulling the battery then clearing cmos.Quote:

I wouldn't call it junk but it would have been nice if it could have done much better with just watercooling and some tweaking. Having to do mods to get the level of performance one hoped for or may have expected is dissapointing. But if one is willing to do them it does good. Plus at the time it came out it was more competitive. I don't have the best ram and a stock/air video card so these could be done I would think.
For 3D 06 I did have to drop down to 459 x 9. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=778865
Tomorrow it´s two weeks ago we first heard about getting 1333 strap. I don´t think I want to wait any longer. I probably will buy P5bd tomorrow.
Maybe it´s like anyone said inside this thread?! Abit will give us the strap when that new 680i Mobo is released and allready numbers sold. Think they are feared they won´t sell it if the AW9-D Max got that strap too.
I really like that board a lot but I think that was my last Abit. Good old Abit is no more at all. Now it´s Universal Abit and they now got not very much to do with OLD Abits own theory. Sorry Abit, much of us who bought that upper class mobo think that way. Sure Asus & DFI got their own special problems but all mobos are at stock able to overclock much higher than AW9D-Max.
That´s a pitty!
My Abit history: BH6 / BE6II / KG7-Raid / IC7 / IC7-G / AW9D-Max
But now I think it´s over Abit.
Greetz!
asus comando comes out in 20 dec, tagged at 165£ which is alot :DQuote:

Alot of you guys probably dont care anymore but hipro was right. Orthos is no indication of stability when it comes to this board. I posted a couple days ago about losing orthos stability after trying one of the newer bioses, well i flashed back to version 2 of the 1.3 beta bios and was able to run blend for 5 hours at 423fsb. I chose to stop it myself because i had previously ran orthos blend for longer at the same oc so i believed my problem was solved.
This weekend i picked up a new 6600 and i tried to see its limits, the only problem was that the 1.3 beta version 2 bios never booted past 431fsb for me while previous bioses had. So i flashed to version 3 of the beta bios. Threw in the new cpu and booted right up at 423x9 with 1.275v. So i proceeded to try and equal the first oc i was at with this new cpu. No voltage bump seemed to work. Orthos would crap out at the same point. I went back to the beta version 2 and could blend again. It was then that i finally figured it was something with the bios itself. I tried the new multi-threaded version of prime with priority set at 9 and was able to blend an hour with no errors. I really dont know what abit did with the second 1.3 beta that allowed orthos blend to run fine but its no more. It just isnt reliable and im more than likely going to dump orthos as a stability tester.
This would be the best bios if your an orthos devotee.
I ran orthos blend for well over 24hours with this bios.
Its the second version of the 1.3 beta dated 11/08/2006.
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8...end2vo0.th.png
This is the bios im currently running and having issues running orthos on.
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/3...end5qz9.th.png
This is the same bios as above running the new prime blend. It was a bit over an hour just to prove the point about orthos being unreliable.
This is version 3 of the beta bios dated 11/22/06.

I've been constantly checking back in this thread hoping to find a reason to put this board back into service. I really expected something by now. The 975X chipset is still faster than all other offerings in most applications. Trouble is finding one that can reach 450+FSB without mods. I'm gonna give the RD600 a try when I can find one, but it looks as the the old P5W DH is going to remain my sli gaming board. My 680i clocks nicely up to 465FSB but the mouse and keyboard lock ups as well as other issues make it not worth the $$. O well I'll just keep checking back. This is a damn fast board and I really want it to work out.
I'm having some problems with this board...i'm capped around 420 FSB, no matter what.
I didn't get a single MHz watercooling the chipset, so i decided to make vmch mod (with the booster mod aswell)...still no gains, same overclock as 2.0 volts. Going below 2v, instead, it starts loosing stability.
I was going to make the vfsb mod too, but i'm thinking there must be something else...maybe my 6700 has a fsb wall at such a low bus frequency? Did any of you experience something like that? I'm testing at 6x multi.
It's not possible to reach the same clock with the stock cooler (and the insulating pad there was) at 2.0v and with chilled water at 2.3v...
Any hints?
Another little thing: isn't the board supposed to give upto 1.725v to the cpu? I can't set the vcore over 1.6625 :(
Hello all,
Just looking for some clarification over the two PCIe slots of this board, if i run a crossfire setup with a pair of x1950 will they both run at 8x or 16x?
Will it damage performance very much if they are both running at 8x?
Cheers
Steelsie
Yes, they will run @ 8x, No it doesnt really matterQuote:

One thing I've found that helps run blend a lot longer is setting RMS to 64clk but it KILLS your pi time.
Can anyone list all the ratios this board will do please?
You guys can all be happy that your board will boot over 400FSB. Mine wont boot over 360fsb no matter what multi or voltage.

any news on the 1333strap bios?
I have my E6400 at 3.5, pretty painlessly so your 6600 with its 9 multi should have plenty of room with the FSB of this board, it will just depend on your CPU.Quote:

By the way I am running a mcw30 on the chipset right now. Orthos hardly makes it 15 minutes at this speed. However....
The new multi threaded prime95 made it close to seven hours. Check out eva2000's post if you havent already. Might prove to be a little more useful than orthos. I set prime95 on priority 9 for the screen shot below. I will let you guys know now that I am in the fsb challenge as well. Hoping new bios or strap will help but so far that doesn't look good. yes maybe vfsb mod could help you, but my board do unmodded 440-445fsb, and when i set mvch to 1,80v vfsb to 1,45 i can reach a bit higher so it maybe help you with you're issue...Quote:

For Conroe, this is my board! But for Kentsfield, I am still with a trusty and reliable Bad Axe 2.
I hope Abit improves their board better in their future boards. These new bios is just so freaking long to release, it's not worth the wait anymore.
I will relegate this board as an uber Conroe board, but not as good for Kentsfield.
i've tested kentsfield on my board not so lucky with that, theres no support for quad on it..
Anyone here ever have a problem with the Max not seeing a USB HDD ?
question, what if memtest gives you no errors...super pi 32m goes thru w/o an error...but running 2 instances of super pi 32m at the same time errors out "not convergent in sqr05" (the 2nd instance usually errors out). What do i make of that?
edit: i also get errors running the windows version of memtest (hci memtest).
Im currently at 378fsb, 1.35vcore, 1.70mch, 2.2vdimm...about 35c idle, 45-47 load.
edit2: nvm, i ran memtest overnight and got errors in test 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8....:(
thanks
i've just put in my x1950 master card yesterday, question is there something in bios that i must changed so that it run properly, tested 3dmark 03 at 762/1082mhz and only manage 35800points cpu at 3760mhz all on air ofcourse, if there's someone who know's that i'd appreciate help very much.
Thanks...
EDIT and the master runs very hot but that could be so that it maybe nott get that good cooling as the slave, i have modded on a cpucooler and mem hs but mem runs hot aswell, when slave mem is totally cold...

DOWNLOADQuote:
Bios 13 Final / release bios,
1. To support Conroe-L CPU(FSB800)
2.Modifying memory default voltage at 2V after clear cmos and if user choose DDR2-800 memory, DDR voltage will set on 2V automatically(By SPD ro Manual)。 DDR533/667 are staying on 1.8V (By load optimized default or manual)
3. To support Conroe Extreme (X6800) CPU's Multiplier range from 6 to 31
4. Update CPU micro code to support Kentsfield B3 version
5.Added DRAM timing option "Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC)"
6. Fixing OC Guru DDR2 SDRAM Voltage to DDR2 VTT Voltage
7. Fixing some DRAM performance decreasing issue
8. Add Thermal Control option
9. Fixing OCZ DDR2 1000 boot fail when set it on DDR2 533 issue
10. Fixing External clock over 365MHz, POST shown wrong Host/Memfrequency
11. Fixing CMOS loss all data back to "fail saft model" issue
12. Change AW9D BIOS setup menu color
13. Remove Memory Frequency on post
14 Remove PCI Express slot 2 item in BIOS
Flash on your own risk!
so with a Kentsfield B0 version it will not work, i can only run a B0 version at multi 10 over that just blue screen...
Hmm no 1333 strap?
Is the strap in this one?

looks like the bios is broke, risky :p
The bios is ok, and is just the final version of the last beta.
Flashed under windows.
yep it seems to be ok just flashed with floppy and finally i can use 6-9x multi without it bugging like hell \o/
That BIOS is a strike against all Abit Fans programmed by a genius !!!Quote:

Just found the 13 final bios. Like nitemare i had a problem with the multi. But with 13 beta 3 it wasn't possible for me to go any further than 356 fsb, no matter what voltage. So i thought what the hell, FSB400 * 9, 3,6 ghz with 1.41vcore, 1.6vmch and 2.0vdimm @ 1:1. It works perfectly, 60 min orthos stable. All 3d benchmarks stable. I will run orthos through the night.
It seems that they really removed the 365 fsb limit this time
Abit Aw9D-Max, E6600 @ 3.6 (L631A697), OCZ PC2-7200 Gold GX, Tuniq Tower, OCZ GamexStream 600W, XFX 8800 GTX @ 630/2000
Good news:
I just did a 10 minutes hard CMOS-clear by jumper. After doing that at least 2 problems are gone.
Those SI-Raid Controllers are really disabled if set in bios.
Overclocking is possible if I don´t touch anything in CPU Feature Setup in BIOS.
Testing now Orthos and new Prime 25.1 on 400FSB.
Lets hope that BIOS isn´t that crap it seems / seemed?!
Greetz!
BIOS 13 Final seems good, provided you don't change anything in the CPU Feature. You'll get a weird "2A" error if you disable everything in the CPU Feature. This is a new problem with this new BIOS.
Heck, the board doesn't shutdown anymore if I set FSB to 400MHz from 266MHz, which is a good thing... hope they have ironed out the ORTHOS blend test thingy.
Also, the "setting to 400FSB, turns out 399FSB" issue is still there. So just set it to 401FSB ;)
Btw, I flashed via awdflash.exe through a bootable USB drive.
Edit: CPU-Z says BIOS dated 12/12... and its only coming out today?!
Okay... 401FSB @ TRFC 35 | 1.75vMCH got me 4 mins ORTHOS Blend stable. Error kicked in the next second..... LOL!
Now its going over 7 mins at 401FSB @ TRFC 42 | 1.75vMCH :slapass:
@chefnr1, that is alot better 03 score than mine 28951. But my 01 and am3 are much better, and can run those at 472 fsb. 61728 and 191849. My 03 and 05 scores seem low and can only get 7426 in 06. I've tried them alot of different ways.
@pcmoddingmy, that new ver. of prime95 will start two threads auto and puts cpu use at 100%. It works much better than orthos, imo.
well heres my latest 01 score single x1950xtx http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9107436
if it's to low run them with some LOD then.
and i have'nt run so much whit CF now i just started yesterday so i will go in for it and get better scores ;)
Can anyone tell me why I am getting same FSB as CPU mhz?
I have played around with uGuru and changing straps but to no avail.
It seems stuck @ 266 FSB with my E6700 everything stock.
Please help.
I have a spare bios chip and will flash as soon as I get home form work :)Quote:

Same ol stuff, and no strap yet.
chefnr1, that is a good score. Does it seem like the benchmark scores 03 and 05 should be higher relative to 01. Have you tried am3 with this board/card?

Try put mem setting to 533 in bios, after that it would be no problem to raise fsb in uguru in win and test som different volt setting osv around 1.65-1.70v on vmch for 400 fsb osv.
I see your picture there.....but what is wrong with it? That is stock FSB....do you have something set differently in the bios?Quote:

Yes it is normal, and that is the problem. :DQuote:

Everytime I make Strap/Volt changes in BIOS they dont get accepted or the PC locks up and gets hard booted.
All changes are being made via BIOS and uGuru both with same results
(minus memory volt changes).
Oh well... I guess I will just wait on Abits official BIOS update. :(
I'm sorry :( I'll shed a tear before I go to sleep tonight.Quote:
