It is on the supported CPU list for the P5B D, If you change the multiplier it will post a wrong CPU speed. You are good with 1215, why not get 1216?

Strange that so few BIOS Updates come out. Considering the multiplier bug on quadcores.
i got some arctic cooling PWM fans and it says to connect them to one another and then into the CPU fan connector. Is this safe?? I mean how many amps can the PWM CPU fan connector take??
I searched for similiar issues, couldn't find any, though I'm sure I'm not the only one this has happened to.
I had to change the waterblock on my P5B Deluxe about a week ago, and, I removed the CPU to clean. (Pet Peeve) I'm blind, BUT, I ALWAYS have a sighted person around when I'm inside computer, and, they noticed "small Gold things" hanging out of socket. Computer was upright, MB perpendicular to floor naturally. Now, I've heard that those socket 775's are only good for so many cycles, is this a truism? And, is pins apparently hanging out something that "Happens" when your just not very lucky? And, aside from all this, can Asus FIX this, and replace pins, or socket??? I was told by seller of MB that this WAS possible for about 40$. But, I called to confirm, they just said, "send it in as RMA", IF it is Physical Damage, we will contact you with repair cost if repair is possible. I'm waiting for board to come back from an IDIOTIC dealer, who told me to "Send it in to them" even though I Called them first, and Warned them of the issue. When they got it, they said simply "physical damage, you pay return shipping" and they send it back to arrive Fri. the 12th. Then I GUESS on to Asus.
Can anybody PLEASE shed some light on this issue, if indeed it IS an issue?
And, since I CAN'T see HOW the socket operates, do the pins sit down in the socket when the lock bar is up, and come "UP" into the CPU contacts when metal retainer is closed, and locking bar is lowered, and snapped into place?????

ok, I've got a familliar problem, but still no solution.
I installed the latest Intel P965 chipset INF files, Intel Matrix Storage and this "thing" is still not working.

I did it to my machine back in June - read about it with a hi-res pic in this thread. It's been perfect with no droop since.
Why do it you ask? More usable vcore without jacking it up in the BIOS for one. For two, lower idle temps and for three, lower power consumption.

The MB reports the wrong clock speed when you change the multiplier. I is only a visual bug. It is during the boot up only. After, everything reports correctly.
4 cores is less power hungry? I have my CPU set at 1.41+ to get a Vcore of 1.37 +/-

Do you have the ASUS ATK0110 installed? I have that disabled and I have an unknown device. But, not in Matrix Manager.
I have an unknown USB device. I think that is a defective back USB header connector on the MB. My first MB I RMAed for a bad firewire port.
I have the same issue. My usb ports wont recognize anything I plug into them :confused: are my usb ports dead? should I RMA?
Ok guys, I'm having a pretty weird issue. Cpu-z, or any other kind of software monitoring tool, can't see my mem timings any more. I don't have any kind of issues, hangups or what ever. The timings are as always set to 4-4-4-12 in the BIOS.
The systools readings are PRETTY weird hehe. Got the same performance as before this started so the readings have to be wrong.

Well I almost jumped ship with a P35 board. I returned it because the realtek controller would not read either of my two DVD/CD RW. I have one SATA and one IDE. I even deleted a RAID. I was trying to load Vista on it for 1/2 of day. Why is realtek making controllers anyway?
I re-installed vista again just to see if it would work again with the JMicron and the IDE. Then, just did a complete restore with my restore file. Updated my files and was back whole again.
RMA I just canceled my ASUS RMA. Since it is only the two back panel USB connectors, I decided I did not want to pull the board again.
What you need is the S/N on the board. But, It is also on the box. From that they can tell the date and it has, I think, 1 year. You can get an advanced replacement. They are not hard to work with.

If all your USB ports are out, you need to RAM the board... I would think.
I get the memory timings "greyed-out" in cpu-z also Higgins. This happens when I set use MemSet to set my CAS timings. The correct timings will show in cpu-z until I reboot, then the timings disappear in both cpu-z and MemSet...but I know the selected timings have been activated. Not sure why they are greyed-out?
Unfortunately, I must use MemSet, because if I disable the automatic "ram timings by speed" bios setting, even at default settings and stock 266FSB, the system will not post. But it is completely stable at 450FSB x 7 with stock voltages, using MemSet set to 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9v.
Ok I have formatted again and gone back to the SATA ide problems.
This forum as well as the intel site say RAID in the bios is the same as ACHI except with raid support but this seems to not be the case. I noticed the following differences.
1 - Low power mode settings in the bios that show on AHCI are not available when RAID is configured.
2 - The drives show in the bios when in AHCI but not when using RAID.
3 - My hitachi boot cd which I use to configure accoustic mode, read ahead cache and write cache on each drive does not load when AHCI is enabled but is fine on plain ide and RAID. So works with RAID but not AHCI. This doesnt matter if the cd drive is on the jmicron controller or the intel.
4 - If using RAID and install windows then go into bios and change to AHCI windows will not boot and vice versa meaning the drivers are different as well.
5 - When using AHCI there is the stuttering problem on video media but goes away when using RAID mode.
This is on a multiple hd configuration hds mixture of pata and sata but no raid setup.
The ICH7 and it seems also the ICH8 and ICH9 chipsets seem to have a major flaw in that a non raid configuration that utilises NCQ cannot have write caching enabled. When installing intel matrix storage software for raid configurations there is a write back cache option which I assume is write caching, intel disable this option on single drive configurations. The driver itself disables the toggling in device manager and using the dskcache tool, sometimes the option is available in device manager and you can tick the box but if going back after can see it disables again and this message in event viewer "The driver disabled the write cache on device \Device\Harddisk5\DR5." for each drive.
So to summarise.
Can use basic ide mode where sata emulates old ide standard and windows uses microsoft ide drivers this allows write caching but does not allow NCQ.
Can use AHCI mode which is satas native mode and it allows NCQ and hotswapping but does not allow write caching due to intels drivers turning it off.
Can use RAID mode which also allows NCQ but I believe hotswapping is not available in this mode which is what I think causes the extra problems in AHCI mode, write cache can be enabled in this mode but only when using raid.
I have googled and there is dozens and dozens of people reporting the same problem of not been able to enable write cache when using AHCI/RAID on single drives and most of them like myself dont want to use plain ide as its a slower compatible mode which doesnt allow NCQ. The problem also exists in vista on the intel drivers but I dont know if it happens on the microsoft vista drivers since vista has built in ahci drivers meaning the intel drivers are not needed for NCQ in vista. I believe intel did this as they feel write cache can make raid look unstable and dont want the bad publicity so took the safe route, personally not only does it make a large difference to my use but I also have a UPS supply connected to my pc so things like power cuts are not a major issue for me infact I usually get 1 power cut maybe once every 3 or so years. This to me looks like a flaw with the intel chipset/drivers which intel probably considered not major in that people will either use raid setups or just use ide mode. So am now looking into a nforce board or may consider putting vista on this pc.
