675 is exactly 50% overclock over reference 450Mhz. I think that's more than enough. Besides, the GTX is already starving for memory bandwidth.Quote:

I think trying to get past 700Mhz on GPU is pretty pointless.. unless you have some really really nice oc on the memory ;)
1800 on the memory is easy to achieve. I'm running 1850 myself. All it takes is a multimeter to double check the resistor and a pencil.

Good to hear the Zalman handles the 1.5mod. By the way is that the pen mod?
Regarding the pencil mod - I don't know if it was my pencil or what, but it gave me very inconsistent readings. Like one minute it would read 2.24V, and the next 2.22V. After wiping it off the best I could, the resistance was actually higher than it was originally (?). In the end I found it easier to just solder a pot across.
turbo: I soldered a wire, but I'm working on a very complicated mod involving 3 switches to let me increment from 1.2 to 1.7 in .05v increments if I want and with LEDs to indicate what is set. Here's a link of my progress.
violence: if it's only fluctuating between 2.24 and 2.23 I wouldn't worry about it. What did you use to clean off the pencil? I've always just erased it. IMO a pot works better though, you can be more precise and it's easier to adjust. Eventually I'll be doing that too.

I did the 1.4v mod to my 1st evga 7900GT CO (500/750) and I could get into the 600's easily with it. Stock I would get 560 on the core, memory im not concerned about. I have a zalman vf700cu on it so idle was like 37 and temps went to mid-high 50's.
I had to RMA the card due to massive artifacts in 3dmark01 and 03 etc and screen blinking on and off...as a note many were experiencing this problem with a huge thread continuing over on the eVGA forums. So it wasn't a result of my voltmod/ocing as many were experiencing on stock speeds.
So i get my new 7900gt replacement..put the zalman on and do the 1.4 volt mod and guess what coolbits detects as optimal? only ~530 core!!! On my old one it would detect @ ~560 stock and ~600+ with 1.4 voltmod. I havent tried doing coolbits w/o the voltmod...i bet it would detect under 500 LOL! even though stock from eVGA is 500. I believe coolbits that 530 is the optimal core b/c if i do something above that or so i get artifacts in 3dmark but stock speeds, 3dmark no artifacts. So it doesnt seem like they r giving me a false optimal frequency.
I know im getting 1.4 volts.. I bought a multimeter and measured the VGPU and it was 1.398 volts. I'm thinking of doing the 1.45, 1.5 or 1.55 volt mod tomorrow. maybe this card is just needs more volts? maybe with the bad batch of eVGA 7900gt cards that people are complaining about on the evga forums something was wrong with the voltage or something? so this one is fixced so needs a little more? With the 1.4 volt mod now..idle is 38-39 and load is still around 59 like my old card.
I thought something was wrong with the vmod so i redid and reseated and recleaned the zalman with alcohol and new artic silver 5 as before and same results.
Any ideas?
I'll let you guys know my result when i do the 1.45 (maybe 1.5 or more) to see if I can get 600+ core and see if my temps are fine of course and use my multimeter :D

Used ATI Tool and it started to get yellow dots on artifact scan around 640 core, which is what im expecting so I set it to 630 w/ coolbits and ran 3dmark03...no artifacts like i been experiencing yet!! i dont get it..just take time for the vmod and thermalpaste to set in? burn in the video card? Well im not saying its 100% okay now im gonna run 3dmark 01,03, 05 and 06 a couple more times, one test isnt enough to conclude but its better than anything i have gotten all day (besides being @ stock speeds) Still thinking about doing 1.45/1.5 vmod, just to get more out of the core.
Overclockability varies from card to card just like it does from cpu to cpu. I wouldn't worry.
I had the same issue with my eVGA 500/1500
In coolbits I got autodetect only 550MHz on 1.4v...on stock I got 523Mhz.
But I could clock it up to 610Mhz on 1.4v without artifacts...still not very good if compared to others clocks.
eVGA are to close on the cut when binning, actually the whole cherrypicking phenomena is a crappy thing...if you ask me.
yah im not sure about the binning thing...But i just ran 01 and 05 with no issues or at least i didnt see anything (cant see everything) i gotta download 06 and try that...that other tool rthdribl_1_2 and i dont see anything on there as well. I'm gonna keep trying and try the higher vmods tomorrow and see how that goes. thanks
I get 667 on 1.5v artifact free in ATI tool if that's any comparison for you. And that's when my a/c isn't working. I tried 668 and after about 7 to 10min of having found none it suddenly went artifact crazy, but at 667 I got well over 25min.

Funny how the memory stays the same though I have had it @ 921MHz absolutely artifact free though 5MHz more and hundreds of artifacts, Core runs happily too @ 700MHz with the 1.4Vmod :woot:

I can get 690/935 on v1.5 without artifacts and on v1.4, it get 660/890 :p:

Whenever you wipe of pencil shading when using pencil, you will be INCREASING the resistance. Remember, that you used the pencil, to decrease the resistance (typically on a pull up resistor), and thus increase the voltage.Quote:

iRoNeTiK, Coolbits auto-detec is tempermental, and even for people with really really good 7900GT that do nearly 700 at 1.4V, it also sometimes auto-detect close to stock speeds. I think perhaps its because auto-detect quickly changes the clock frequency, and thus introduces some noise in the power... I dunno.. but if mutliple 3Dmark runs work (and you consistenly get the same high scores), then its ok.

there are simpsons name windows registry keys which determine the coolbits overclocking range. Otherwise, you can use rivatuner, or powerstrip (double click on the chip or memory in powerstrip to increase the overclocking range)Quote:

Whats a good position and method of mountaing a 80mm fan by the video card. I alrdy got a side panel case fan 80mm..i think its 30cfm and i got the zalman on full on the card with ramsinks. I got a spare 80mm but no mounts so thinking of just rigging it on the card. any suggestions? I would think it would help keep the IC's and RAM cooler.

Well I think I have a pretty decent core on this card. I just "altered" my Vgpu mod to raise the voltage from 1.4v to 1.5v. I also did the pencil Vmod.
Before with 1.4v Vgpu & 2.03v Vmem I maxed out at:
680x850
Now with 1.5v Vgpu & 2.2v Vmem, I have reached:
720x920
Temps rose about 4c load going from 1.4v to 1.5. I did also put heatsinks on the 2 ICs mentioned on page 16. I noticed that mine were EXTREMELY hot.
I'm to benchmark the new speeds now ;) Just finished a 4hr ATI-Tool run

Picked up about 1,500 points in 3dmark03 with the 1.4 -> 1.5 vgpu and vmem mod.
Will run 05&06 after I get off work tonight
