So between TP12 and GND goes Vcore regulator.Nobody could draw it on their pictures.Only Vmem regulator was showd.One clear picture could be more understanding than 100+ posts.Ok ill try this vcore mod.

Yes, having resistor between those points Vcore is increased. However, note following things:

- Vcore is result of BIOS value AND added resistor AND card model (you should find correct value by trial and error)
- You can mod Vcore with bios MUCH EASIER & IN MORE SAFE WAY
- It has been reported these cards (=the same PCB-model) CAN BURN (MOSFET's) when having large Vcore say 1.3 or 1.4 V. A safe way would be an extra heatsink mounted top of each hot MOSFET (+Switching regulator chip etc.)

I have planned to make a figure, I'll do it some day (when NOTHING else to do :) )

I had no luck in flashing new vcore with Nibitor and Nvflash.Saved 1,4v with Nibitor but Nvflash did not change default vcore from 1,2 to 1,4.I dont know if Nvflash has any screen telling you that flashing was sucessful.For me it sayd nothing just after 5sec thinking returned to earlier screen when flashing.

I wonder (heard on some forum?) that some Nbitor version(s) DO NOT change the Vcore voltage, althought it shows Vcore has changed. Please, try with latest version. You measured Vcore afterwards, and no change at all ?

Very hard to know if Nibitor changes volt in a file it saves.I have done hard mod and Nibitor was the latest version.

That is correct: very hard to find out what voltage (or anything else!) is inside bios ;) .. so the only way to know Vcore for sure is MEASURING.

if you dont have the patience to read through this thread or several others, or use the mysterious legendary "search" button, then this kind of modding is not for you. As somebody who wants something to easily get faster without much work, might I suggest simply buying a faster card for you.

Vcore-mod (increase core voltage): put/solder (variable)resistor between that 'green hole' (=TP12) and GND (e.g. some TP's like TP9 are best for this, see the figure I posted few posts ago) . Please, note not to have too low value or not to make any shorts etc. Yellow points are not important here.

You have BS-affected card or are you going to stabilize Vmem with capacitor(s) ? One 4700uf is not 'too much' , but I do not suggest to put more than that.

Hi,

Are you sure any mod cannot be found ?? If yes.. could you post high quality fotos of card or tell codes top of 'intereting' IC's ? Usually quite small IC's having ~14-28 pins and located near largest capacitors and inductors.

i did both gpu and mem mods, but its maxxed out@ 425/860 1.45v/2.95v.
i think the gpu gets too hot (74c!!) plus voltage makes no difference to stop it artifacting.
do you think i need to do the cap mod? or would my card not benefit from it? voltages seem very stable on the multimeter i.e not moving at all.

oh and when i was looking at doing the capmod, i saw in your guide that you put the cap in where the memory read points are.. and i soldered an old molex there to read voltages. is there another place i can put it, since you wanted it as close to the card as possible.
btw soldering those little holes is really easy isnt it. :D

OK.. I did not get you have already done mods ;)

In general having artefacts at 'low' clock frequencies is due to opening locked units. If a small increase to Vcore does not help to remove those I think there is anything you can do: Broken units can NOT be repaired with 'over'voltage, in some cases the whole core can be damaged. In theory extra voltage could help IF the reason was having too 'slow' transistors and NOT 'dead' transistors inside the locked unit.

Do you have unlocked units ? Have you tried to lock those while having the same clocks, any artefacts ?

Adding a capacitor MIGHT help little bit, but propably not too much.

BTW, having Vcore 1.45 V (with this card model) is risky. I suggest to cool somehow the hot components. Here is a figure of temperatues I have measured from MSI 6800le (Vcore = 1.2 V). The most risky components are IC's (MOSFET's) at the bottom of the right hand figure (up to 78 C !!). I wonder what temperatures you have now :slobber:

i unlocked it to 12/6 (NU), so you think i should lock the vertex and try again?
it eventually throttled from all the artifacts and now ive got it at 415 1.41v :p
what do u think is a safe voltage? i can maybe drop it to 1.39-1.4v

as for temps of the ics chip and those mosfets, they burn your finger in <1sec of touching them :eek:

i will try to cut some ramsinks and stick them on those little chips, but it will be hard since the dimm slots are very close to that area on the card :(

Hey you all, I've been reading up on this thread, despite I am looking for a PCIe vcore mod. I am using an XFX 6800GT PCIe that uses a reference board. I do not have access to the scanner but the VR is a ISL 6534CV L0505HBBV, quite similiar to the ones you are modding with the 6800 AGP. I haven't looked up any reference sheets to them yet.

Also, where is this TP11 labeled, on the front? I am looking for a vcore measurement point on my 6800GT PCIe and I am thinking the agp/pcie version might share the same point, but I can't find it! :o

Any help is appreciated

Hi,

Yes, many 6800-card are using ISL 6534CV to generate both and Vcore (Vout1) and Vmem (Vout2). Both voltages can be modded (in AGP 6800) by adding a resistor between FBx-node of corresponding output and GND. In addition to that Vmem (Vout) can be modded also by altering REFIN voltage (as I explained above). These (AGP) cards have those TP's, which makes modding and measuring very convenient. However, I wonder PCI-e model oes not have any TP's (?)

I order to many mods for your card, it should be investigated WHAT voltages are generated by ISL 6534. I suggest to find the Vcore voltage as follows. Trace copper tracks (e.g. with multimeter while power is off) from pins 19, 20, 22, 23 to locate MOSFET's (top side of the card). Find inductors (and finally capacitors) connected to MOSFET's (another nodes of MOSFET than connected to those those pins) and as a result you should have TWO nodes: Vcore and Vmem. To get some idea what the schematic of that kind of circuit COULD be, see below (the nodes you are tracing first point are UGATEx and LGATEx)
