i have ordered 2 boards, and they are in transit atm. its a 2 cpu arima 461 board, and the same quad socket board as we are buying here. i will keep you updated when i get em. i will soon have everything ready to test the setup.
this is looking nice. Any way to have more people in?
I have a few questions. First, where are these $27 cpus everyone is referring to? I have searched all over this thread for links, and ebay, and have not found them. Second, I have a Silverstone 600w modular psu laying around, should I not use this since it isn't single rail? Thanks.
Duh, do you think that we can get the 75$ price if we "only" order ~30 boards?
the guy with the cpus have a email. you have to write to him to get the price we are talking about, its 27.50$ each.
his mail is palm54@charter.net .
the problem with a psu that have more than one 12v rail, is that you are powering the whole system with eps12v and pcie, its not using the normal 24pin. but it might work fine.
Thanks for the info, I can pick up a single rail psu on newegg. Very interested in one of these boards, you can add me to the list. I wont have my paycheck for about 2 weeks though.
good shell shocker for us: http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellS...031-_-05222010
i hear you artemm that's why i jumped on the antec psu last night that had a ten dollar off promo code. instant off and no mir, that's the way to go!
Here is what I came up with. You should be able to use the stock screws if you can get the right size bolts, but I ended going with some #4 3/8th bolts with #4 nuts. I used some #6 nylon washers as well.
In order to scavenge the retention bracket I just installed an Ultra TEC cooler on a socket 754 eMachines lol!
ug.. i think i just blew my first capacitor. loud pop, funky smell, no worky??
Sureshot2
will add you :)
@shoota: what have you done mate?
i can't find any damage tho... turned on the old emachines after i installed the TEC pos cooler and POP! then funny smell followed by a constant beep from the board
Oh it was the E-Machine? Meh.
If you plugged the TEC into a case fan header you could have cooked a regulator. Alternatively the TEC itself died and has shorted, pulling the supply voltage form the PSU down too much.
it's not plugged into the mobo and the board still won't boot with the tec unplugged either. i think it's the board.. but it's ok i got it for twenty-five bucks and i can def use it for parts
Very nice, clean work MrMojo. Do you think it would be possible to drill and tap holes straight into the backplate? Or is the plastic too thin and/or soft? Also, does the hole in the backplate clear all the resistors under socket (and so lie perfectly flat to the board)? That's lucky :]
i'm wondering the same thing. also, would a regular stock amd cooler like this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT) be able to handle these quad core's heat?
For a stock cooler I'd want a stock quad's sink. The ones with the 4 heatpipes.
unless those boards use a drastically different mounting hole/spacing...wouldn't a CM hyper TX3 work?
Might be possible, I just don't like to rely on plastic gripping screws. Most of the backplates use pretty dense plastic. I don't see any clearence issues, I shined a light and couldn't find any gaps or see anything getting covered.
I have two of the heatpipe stock coolers I'm going to use, but I bet the stock crap coolers in my picture could get the job done. One of them is from a Phenom 9500 afterall. :D
