I've managed to boot up to 215 but nothing stable. I'm hoping this tweak will let me stabilize it a bit.

My mistake, multiplier is 20x all right.
It's not 21 on all cores when OCed however, it fluctuates depending on load. So if you run, say at 4Ghz with turbo mode and HT enabled, it will drop down to 20x anyways because the CPU detects you are beyond the TDP limit.
So what I said is still valid, just insert the 20x mult :shakes: Ofc you can "have" the 21x mult for lower OCs and without HT, but then you won't need it in the first place ;)
Actually depending on how your bios is setup, you may be at actual 4.2. When running prime since all 8 threads loaded, if you are still at 4.2ghz, then you are at 4.2ghz. Or put it this way, any app you run on your computer will be at 4.2 ghz speed, hence it would be incorrect to say 4ghz. No difference to apps running with an i940 set to 21x200 with turbo off vs i920 21x200 with turbo on, if TDP/core limit is disabled in the bios and cpu is in permanent turbo mode.
On GB F3 bios TDP/ core limit is in effect so 4ghz turbo on = 4.2 ghz 2 cores load, 4ghz 4 cores load.
All GB f4 bioses have TDP/core limit disabled so turbo on = permanent 21x multi on i920, permanent 23x multi i940.
What is nice about permanent turbo, it takes a few notches less vcore to do 4.14 with "permanent" turbo enabled vs 4.14 with no turbo. On my i940: bios F4j
1.35vcore bios = 4ghz 182x22, 12hrs prime stable turbo off
1.42vcore bios = 4.14 ghz 188x22, prime stable 4hrs (did not try longer), fails below that, turbo off
1.381 vcore bios = 4.14 ghz 180x23, prime stable 6hrs so far, turbo on (perma-turbo bios)
Just because it takes less vcore for all your apps and computer to always run at 4.14 or 4.2 with turbo on (in TDP/core limit disabled bioses), does not mean you are not at that speed, it just means you got there with less vcore.
^ Couldnt have said it better
rge, you are totaly right.
I understood now, how can I take more wPrime 32m score at less CPU frequency with F4i BIOS instead of F3 and why it becoming unstable at the same.
Thank you for you post.

jcool, I'm confirming it. Do you need screenshot?
I'm totaly impressed by XS forum members. To get useful info like that I need to read 200+ pages of flood on our russian oveclocking-related sites. :)
Hey guys. I have been trying a few days to achieve 4.0ghz on my system.
I have a 965xe, a X58-UD5 bios F4K, and 6gb of Corsair Dominator. .So far I have tried 133*30 1.375v, 125x32, 200*20. I can boot into windows under all of these configurations. However, it will blue screen if I try to Prime95.
I have read to keep the memory multiplier at half of the QPI link? Does anyone have tips to get my system to 4.0?
thats intresting !:DQuote:

jcool im at 195 x 19, + turbo priming right now 4 hours still going 4.1ghz and its staying at 21 x 195, HT on , bios f4k
4.2 ghz is a B:banana::banana::banana:h , prime keeps getting me @4.2 ive taken it up to 1.518V vcore, and 1.515 qpi vtt and was running prime but i noticed red light flashing just under north bridge , so i thought red means stop ?
Positive. Intels boards shows (visible setting) the core limit/TDP settings, disable them and turbo = max multi +1. I asked GB tech support to relay a message to ask for 9x mem divider and to make the TDP/core limit settings visible to play with, sometimes they try suggestions, sometimes not have to wait and see.
You can try it yourself, I have probably changed bios back and forth 15+ times, to many to count stress runs...you can flash to any f4 bios (i have extreme as well), run 2 versions of linpack or run prime, or can even run prime and linpack at same time, you can not make turbo disengage...the tdp/core limit is off. See pic from intel board. See second pic with prime, ht on, turbo on, linpack and prime running simultaneously load 100.3%, realtemp is using intel white paper on core i7's so load is accurate.

How about the new load feature is fairly accurate.
I'll go check for some rounding errors in my calculations. :D
Hey Unclewebb, i'd be interested in seeing your bios settings for 180 bclk.
I'm back to using RT again, it's super accurate with i7 :D Sensors seem to be a lot better too, did Intel fix the sticking and stuff like that?
Xello: You'll have to ask rge. That's a pic of his i7.
rge: Thanks for that info. That'll be an easy fix.
The i7 sensors are supposed to be new and improved. They still seem to have some slope error where the CPU temperature changes slightly differently than the sensors indicate. Harder to tell though with some Core i7 cores possibly being turned off at idle.
In theory, if these sensors don't get stuck, they're capable of reading down to -27C. Most of them will probably get stuck before that point but it would be interesting if someone could do some testing. It gets to -40C here in the winter but I'm afraid the neighbors will be calling the guys with the white jackets to come and get me if they see me hauling my computer outside, again. :D
:ROTF:
I think i have RGE's settings somewhere, cheers.
Prime just crashed again, approx 3 hrs 10 mins into blend test. All stock settings...
here is a wierd one for you.
When posting at 167Mhz x 20 which gives me 3340 Mhz, it see's all 6Gb of memory
How ever When posting at 168Mhz x 20 which gives me 3360 Mhz, it see's ONLY 4Gb of memory
Any idea's? Memory is corsair non dominator stuff rated at 800Mhz, currently at somethign like 835. Got 1.65V going through the ram, so all should be fine.
The processors primes fine at above 3360Mhz (primes fine for 12 hours at 3.5Ghz) but i only just noticed it was on 4GB and not till i went back down to 3360 did it post showing 6Gb of ram grrrrr
Please help

Can someone provide me with a link to the latest UD5 bios? The links provided in the first post do not work for me (myfreefilehosting).
F4K for UD5 is same as F4J for Extreme ;)

Ok, finally got my rig up and running. :)

Its just a quick test with everything on auto but 160mhz bclck is possible wit 12gb, and i think more also. :)
Welcome to the party Hornet, i'm having a blast with my board so far. I'll leave fine-tuning for later, right now i'm just having a stab at some quick OC's. Right now i'm booted with turbo off @ 200x20 for 4ghz, 1.4v vcore, 36x QPI 1.35v QPI/VTT, 8x memory for 1600mhz @ 1.66v, 17x uncore. Quick superpi 1m gives 10.3s, also prime stable for half an hour which is a good sign - this is going to be nowhere near as hard as i thought :)
What i don't get is all the pictures i'm seeing of people loading @ 70-80c, i'm sure one guy was going to TJmax and not worrying about it. I'm only on 1.4v vcore but my EK is giving me pretty good 47-48c 100% load temps with prime. Is water just really good for i7?
