Update on my situation.

All my rigs will be up tomorrow!

Got my final HDD for the P4. so I'll have 5 systems up. They've been down for a while since I've been doing my room up. Will be updating my thread soon :)

i wonder if we can find the spec sheet on the pll and soft mod this somehow. it's not listed in the version of clockgen i have, but it'd be nice if we could add it.

Yeah, I was going to suggest checking into setfsb, it's nice that the source is available, but not in English... You could try sending off an email to the author providing the information he requests on the site.

Good 'ol PIC 8-bit microcontrollers, they're used to teach the embedded systems course :)

I've been looking into seeing what's possible to do in linux, since there's kernel support for I2C (of which SMBUS is a subset) and tools available for use. I guess the one thing I'm still clueless about is finding the right bus address for the pll, but I think there's at least a tool for querying the bus. I glanced through an Intel motherboard datasheet last night and I was surprised that they listed the pll model/series and address, but that's been the only one I've seen with that information. I checked a Supermicro one, but it only listed the pll model/series...

What about... uhm... compromising one of the hw clockgens? Then write for the second clockgen. That should solve the problem.

ok.. just tried to boot-up for first time ;)

no POST. no nothing.

diagnostic LEDs show the following:

1st LED: green
2nd LED: nothing
3rd LED: amber
4th LED: nothing

LED codes/info are in mobo manual on pg131.. I cant seem to 'decipher' what the code means :( - any help would be greatly appreciated!

@ MM: what slot would u advise for a single DIMM? cheers!

2nd slot from the top of the board as you'd see it if the board was in a case.
Mine worked with just one dimm in that slot..

slots 1-3 produce the same result... also, just as some more 'info' - *all* the LEDs go thru a rather fancy 'show off' before finally 'settling down' to the previous mentioned order/code

slots 4-8 give a diff result: LEDs 1-3 show amber, LED#4 shows green, as well as the onboard speaker giving me 3 medium length 'beeps' :shrug:

my darn RAM stick better not be 'DOA' :mad:

any business near you with servers where you could put on your best Sunday go to church duds and ask politely if the IT guy could check or a PC shop nearby?

*sigh* I guess I could try that.. its just that most (if not, all) PC shops around here are absolutely friggin' hopeless.. ur average XS cruncher is waaay more 'kitted out' than a wozzie pc shop :shakes: :down:

(512MB SS DIMM, PC2-3200, CL3, REG & ECC)

the 'I' at the end of the model code apparently denotes that it is 'Intel Verified/Certified' - according to the Kingston website.. There is (iirc) some stuff, almost exactly the same code number, but without the 'I' at the end blahblahblah (u get the pic ;) )

anything else I need to add? :)
