Check out post #2 in this thread:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=157690
Is it normal temp for Q6600@3200mhz to go 60C when it is beeing cooled with Big typhoon and the case has 2x120mm fans. Also the voltage in BIOS is set to 1.37. Whats the temperature limit which is recommended ? I'd like to go for 3.6ghz but the temps would go over 65C i guess.. Is it just badly mounted or does the BT really suck?
Q6600 G0, Batch # L737B. vCore 1.500 (BIOS), tried getting to 4Ghz but it wouldn't post no matter what the voltage, however my friend who bought the same batch # as me can do 4.0Ghz+, so I guess it's still based mostly on luck, also sucks that CoreTemp still can't run on Vista X64
3dMark CPU score 5291

EDIT: just realized u can't see much in the pic, will try and take another later tonight
anyone has the l740A batches? how does it preform?
There we go, a screenie that u can actually read

upgraded to F7 bios today but still no 4.0Ghz clock, Currently still @ 3.8Ghz, 1.50 vCore Bios, Orthos was having affinity mask errors so I Dled the latest prime and ran that with small FFTs, but forgot to take a screenie after a few hours, so here's a more recent one.
737B668 has a vid of 1.325 as shown in coretemp and everest. this particular batch IS hit and miss as far as overall overclock. i have 2, purchased the 2nd one today. both boxes have identical markings pack date is 12/10/07, the first one i bought would only go to 3.8ghz and the one i have now im posting from 4ghz *not prime stable but have had it in my system for 4 minuets now and i never even got this far on the other cpu, just look @ my sig*
L740B126, not A though...

It is with open window for some minutes. At 24°C ambiant, it is as hot on 2 cores as with my previous L734B at same 3.6GHz but with 1.424 real vcore instead of 1.334v for this one
So, despite the lower vcore, it heats quiet the same as a per clock reference. The delta between cores is up to 7°C usually. I'll try to reseat in few days with some MX-2, then I'll try a vertical mount of my WB. If nothing do it, I could lap it. But this one, despite low vcore is really hot on two cores, the other two are fine. I can easily hit 60°C at 24°C ambiant on that OC
batch L743A689 = crap! i got one with a vid of 1.275 and it easily passes 70c with 1.54 volts on water cooling *dtek plus 2 rads...* it is NOT seated improperly as i reseated it 3 times with the same results. hottest core idles at 41
i will be exchanging it for a different cpu. my 737B668 with a vid of 1.325 could handle 1.64 volts and would only touch 66c @ 4ghz... wtf:mad:

just so you know i had 2 737B cpu's 1 i exchanged for this dud L743A but whatever the 737B i exchanged was a dud as well *couldnt get past 3.86Ghz*
both were L737B668, the one i kept is the one that runs up to 4ghz *i can post those settings too if u want
@ 1.43 volts i think i was at 3.4 like you... now i just skip to 1.5 volts and aim to boot at 4ghz and adjust from there
Cheers for the info, maybe one day when i can keep the heat under control and get a real board.
actually just swapping out my cpu for another l737B668 *exact same batch i had before* dropped temps... the L743A689 had a lower vid, ran at lower volts, but was a hotter cpu so yeah... luck of the draw
the p5k is supposed to be a pretty good overclocking motherboard.
so now i have had 2 743A processors, both had a little shiny mark on the top right of the ihs and both have crazy temps and run like crap. avoid this batch.
I have a 737B363 with VID 1.3125v.Actually it's orthos stable at 3200@1.35v. The core temps have a difference od about 7degrees.I use 1605 bios with commando and can't post over 450fsb for now..
So far without testing the new L743A866, my L734B164 is the best out of 5 quads...

i honestly think that my 734A's properties of very high temps on 2 cores, low on 1 and just high on the last has alot to do with the shiny mark on the top of the cpu. I did not put it there and it was on both processors in the same spot, and both had the EXACT same batch, 743A689... its so frustrating trying to get a really good processor by buying 1 at a time and constantly testing and exchanging that 1... but today, its being swapped for a 740A242 to see how those fare. just fyi ive got this 743A689 prime stable at 3.9 ghz though temps are a bit crazy.. 77c on the hottest core @ 1.56volts. this is why i am returning these... not that they dont overclock well, but THEY GET HOT AS THE FRIGGIN SUN AT LOW VOLTS! if your 743 doesnt have that shiny mark on the top you will probably be ok, but THE FRYS AT WOODLAND HILLS CA HAS A CRAPPY BATCH OF 743A689 WITH A SHINY MARK!!!
Yeah but mine is a P5K SE, SE = really cutdown crap version. I have no control over any voltage except CPU and DRAM, only 3 phase power and just generally really crap, when I put the CPU under load, there's a buzzing noise coming from the motherboard. I don't think it's really designed to draw this much power.
im testing a L745A675 now, it has a vid of 1.225. im occt testing it now as i write this @ 3.94Ghz 1.496 volts  things are looking good on this cpu though it runs a bit warm, it touches 71 but i plan to lap my waterblock and this cpu and keep it.:D
My current is below incase someone else has this setup. Never tried getting it higher.
Finally got the L743A866 installed last night. VID 1.2250 :D

How fast are you running your fan on your cpu cooler to get those temps?
