680i SLI is too expensive? Asus as the solution : P5N32-E SLI PLUS

Leaving the ASUS world going to EVGA A1 rev. board.
My P5N32-E SLI Plus left this world to travel to RMA world at ASUS.

I had a lot of BSOD's with nv_disp.dll messages, found NB setting on AUTO gave 1.15v, upped to 1.45v and everything worked great for one day. Could not access my printers and restarted. Had power, but no display. Tried everything known to man, even powering up an empty board (per other forum members), nada.

I should be getting a board back from ASUS in the next few weeks, I'll have one for sale if anyone is interested. PM me.

Keep up the good work, I'll be visiting the folks with the eVGA threads!

heh can anyone tell me what the default SB and NB voltages are for this mobo? Im getting some random freezes Im thinking of upping the NB volt slightly. Right now IM at 3.4, 9xmulti, ram unlinked. I have some Orthos stability (30minutes for now, manually stopped it). Also Im on the 0302 bios, I know the 06 one is much better, just doing some experimenting first. THANKS

start with 1.50 on the NB ( max 1.55 do not use 1.6volts) and 1.55 on the SB. don't OC with anything less than bios 0602.

What was strange about the A1 from evga was that I could boot into windows @1600FSB but not at 1500. Too many problems for my taste. I have a replacement on the way from evga that I should have Friday. I'm not very optimistic but I'm gonna give it one more shot.

i bet you its a divider issue.

kunaak did a write up a while ago about how his p5n32-e sli (non-plus) liked some dividers but not others.

it just might be that the combo fsb/mem you used wasn't liked by your board.

i can't do 1600/1000 unlinked on mine but 1800/1000 works perfectly fine?!?

what kind of chipset fans are people running with a tuniq tower? Im trying to figure out if I will be able to fit a Thermalright HR-05

This board is amazing, by far is much better than my previous P5B-Deluxe. The bios that came with the board sucks. I could not overclock greater than 3.3 with my E6600, now with this bios I can go much higher. The orthos is running just to see if the system is stable at 3.502. My settings are mainly turned to be sinc fast memory to work linked and for those people that says that this is not a 680i board, they are totally wrong. The northbridge is 650i but the features and all the resources are from 680i. So basically in my understanding, they got it working flawless putting the 650 with advance bios found just in 680i boards. This is a must, my CPU was never good on my P5B-Deluxe, but with this board things changed. I will post screenshots maybe in the weekend fact I have a coursework to do right now :( .

Update: Before to get 3.3 to work with the bios 0302 I had to put many voltage settings higher than the normal, but right now with the bios 0306 my voltages settings are really lower and the system is just much better and stable at 3.5.

So is the Asus board a recommended board or not...I looking for something to upgrade my MSI 975x Plat. too..But definetly have to have the same stability.....

it took me about 2 full days of tweaking to get it stable.

this board has a lot of voltage tweaks and mem sub-timing options that'll take a little bit to learn in order to gain stability

Yes I like the full settings available. It will take me more than 2 days to get it stable, it is fun anyway :)

This bios is brilliant. So many things to change, even now you can save your overclock profile to HD or flop disc.

Even nForce 680i LT SLI uses the nForce 650i SLI SPP. Both the AnandTech review and the The Tech Report review say the 680i LT SLI SPP is labeled C55-P-N-A2. But this is exactly the nForce 650i SLI SPP as you can see from this ASUS P5N-E SLI review.

Basically all of

• nForce 650i SLI
• nForce 680i LT
• ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus
• ASUS P5NT WS

have the same SPP C55, with apparently different part numbers

• C55-P-N-A2
• C55-SLIX8N-A2
• NF650I-SLI-N-A2
• NF680ILT-SLI-N-A2

Only the pure 680i SLI SPP is C55XE, with part number C55-SLIX16N-A2 or NF680I-SLI-N-A2.

But the distinction between C55 and C55XE is very obscure and as a matter of fact

C55 = C55XE
from their specs.

I'd say recommended: but you have to work with the board if you want a good OC.

Its a good board, but it takes alot of FREAKIN patience, I loved the OCing on my Abit AW9D-Max mobo much better. Im still using the stock bios for now (0302), and have my CPU @3.4, no issues so far, as soon as I start having issues Ill move to the 06

Ill be receiving this board on monday, with an e6600 ... I already have two HR05-SLI here, I learned only after that it was only needed on the NB, but I guess having two will help.

Looking forward what I can get out of this.

what kind of vcore are you running on your 29B? I'm currently running 1.55v core in the bios to get 3.7 Ghz.

EDIT: Ive only pushed it on this mobo to 3.4@1.27volts, on my old mobo I got up to 3.8 with 1.43 volts, couldnt go higher due to FSB limitations

Anyone want to rate the onboard sound for this MB? I haven't hooked it up yet and haven't tried it out.

Hey guys I'm just wondering if this motherboard would be suitable for a rig with 2x8800gts?
It only does 8x SLI so will that effect me?
Also the rig will have e4300 and 4x1gb sticks of super talent 667.

Actually it does do dual x16, SLI will work great. read the entire thread, it helped me learn alot about this board

Earlier in this thread a few people had some issues with 4x1GB of RAM, is this still the case? Or was it an isolated incident?
