How come then you pass off the image as a teaser shot? It's deliberatly misleading number one....You should say, "Hey, here is a completely useless link of a screenshot from Ubuntu." And oh yeah, you could mention that the text editors have a file open that has nothing to do with XSOS....Everything listed in that text has something to do with a KDE desktop or QT apps. I'm not calling you a liar (yet) but the more and more crap you pour into this thread and the sneakiness makes me wonder if we are really dealing with an honest man.

Perhaps some long term/good standing/significant post count members of XS in the first beta group can post their thoughts and observations? That first beta group is either done or wrapping up if I am not mistaken, yes? No "coordination problem" can happen if they are done testing so no need to worry about that. I for one would like to see some well-known XS members post about their experience with the first beta.

Except for the fact that XSOS is discussed in more than this thread and in more than the OS forum with a reasonable degree of frequency. Not to mention the fact that everytime nn_step posts, his sig is usually an ad for XSOS in some way shape or form. And since he posts continuously all over XS all day long, it's pretty much impossible to do that "out of sight out of mind" thing.

I have been testing the Alpha release. I should full-fill the criteria as Ive been here a long time and Im a mod.

Initial impressions so far is its very fast to use. I am using a dual core amd with 2gb ram 2x80gb sata stripe 0. Easy and quick to install.

On this system for general usage it runs quicker than both XP and Vista. I have not yet tested any games. Boinc however runs fine, my systems are mainly used for DC.

I have had a couple of network issues with DNS where a local machine name will not resolve but the IP will. If I stick to IP I am able to map drives and pull what I need from my Domain Controller.

Not much more to add other than seems stable enough for DC which is what I want. Have lost nothing off my OC which is essential for points.

Feel free to shut me down here but does this contract have anything to do with Microsofts push for interoperability between linux and windows?

The idea for this OS sounds bloody great. If your contract gets terminated however how will support and updates be managed. In particular DX10 updates?

If Microsoft prematurely terminates the contract, I will still retain full access to DX10 for an Additional 2 years. After which time Microsoft will end all support, after which time I have a 5 year grace period to remove any and all Microsoft source code and only then when Microsoft signs off saying that our OS contains NONE of their source code can V3 become open source.

The short way of saying it is if Microsoft pulls the plug, the OS will only be officially supported for 2 years and V3 will NEVER become Open source(simply because Microsoft has made it impossible to emulate a dozen things in their DX API without infringing).

Does XSOS V3.0 support Direct Show as well as third party filters?

I am an avid Anime fan as well as a gamer, so Direct show is an important since I rather not use VLC or mplayer. Rather I love Media Player Classic.

Well, as far as I am concerned, someone at least tried the alpha (wanted a recent beta person who could testify to DX10 and all the rest being true, not sure why they weren't available). So even though the only thing that is apparent is it's doing something OS-like, I'll just watch and wait unless something comes up.

And as to the "angry chat", I think a number of people are very suspicious of on-line scams. Though I don't consider anything I have written "angry" (it was just direct and to the point). Look what happened to Chilly1 and the other people burned by the trusted(?) person that did what he did. Is this that? Probably not. But since it comes up all over XS, people are going to ask the questions, and rightly so.

When incredible claims are made people should expect hard questions. It's as simple as that. But I don't agree with anyone "attacking" or otherwise flaming. This can be done via reasonable discussion.

How is this an online scam? No money is envolved. You aren't being asked to do anything. I was a beta tester of all the previous versions, and they all work as advertised. I still use it on my crunching rigs. I don't have the time to be a tester of this version, or I would have voluntered. I applaud nn_step for all of his work on this. If you don't like it, then don't use it, simple as that.

So what evidence do you have to support this then ? What authorities would these be. If your going to throw these sort of comments around please back them up.

I never said it was. Please read more carefully. The issue is the possibility of such things. Further, what is being proposed here is a radical departure from what seems to have been done in previous versions.

A few issues that have been brought up are as follows (by several different people):
1. The entire development XSOS "team" has decided that they will remain anonymous and never say a peep about themseleves. Ever. That is rather odd, especially since nn-step indicated they themselves want it this way. There is no mention of an NDA or anything else that requires them to not even reveal their identities.
2. Microsoft is supposedly the company behind XSOS and they have given DX10 plus proprietary code away for no good reason. 4. The guy behind the effort, and representing it in public, seems to have no qualms about ripping MS or their operating systems in public. When asked about it he said he "wasn't their political puppet". Does that sound like the type of person that MS lets in their front door and signs a major agreement with? Hell, is it even ethical to publicly castigate your primary backer?

Like I said, I have no intention of flaming or name-calling, despite the best efforts some people have made to bait such behavior. But I am not the only one to notice oddities in this. In any event, someone attested to the alpha behaving like they would expect with at least one app, so I am going to wait and see what comes of it. But my experience is almost always that when something SEEMS to good to be true, it usually is. And saying MS is giving away DX10 to a free OS right at the launch of Vista just so people can have a free light gaming platform really is too good to be true. Especially when MS doesn't have a single word about this anywhere at all. I mean, if it was a secret, you wouldn't have nn_step telling everyone MS is behind it. So why not a peep from MS? Why only here?

Is what he quoted up on a website? I didn't see it. Was it up and then taken down? ndave's flaming aside, I would be interested in seeing that. If XSOS really IS available for download right off the MS website with every other MS app, that would close the case for me. No easier solution to this whole thing than to link to the official MS page with the latest XSOS beta and end the speculation.

What, really would be his motivation for scamming anyone? He has been a member here FAR longer than I, and far longer than most of the people attacking him. He has already produced a version of an OS, and did it not do EXACTLY what he said they would do?

But is that enough for most people... nope. This is why my post count is so low. There is very little point in posting much of anything since all you will do is get attacked by some 14 year old with a grudge against the world, who has nothing better to do than flame and hijack your thread until nothing productive ever gets posted.

We should all feel lucky nn has more patience than the majority of us, otherwise he would just say "Fine, @#$$ you all anyway, write your own OS."

Interesting that you do take into account the postcount here. So, for you, an opinion of a 3 thousand poster is more worthy than, say, mine. Well. To me, it may mean that he/she has more free time than me, for example. And, BTW, if that is to be taken into account, then nn_step word must be God word, just by looking at his post count :rolleyes:
