P5B Deluxe: BIOS screens for maximum overclocking success

This has been a great thread for a OC noobie like me. I've used your collective advice to get very stable game performance at:

E6600 @ 435 with a divider of 8 (3.4something GHz)
Temps of 45 idle, 52C after doing the FEAR performance test with all settings maxed, aircooled with Asus Silent Square
Memory running at 1066 (Corsair PC8500 2x1Gb)

Should I just leave well enough alone now or are there other tweaks that would yield any worthwhile performance improvements? I'm not interested in finding my max OC numbers - just excellent overall system performance with reliability.

drop the fsb to 385-390 and multy to 9 you will have better performance than 435x8

Just so you know. If you set your memory voltage to 2.25V in the BIOS it will only supply 2.20V when you check it in windows. So if you are setting your voltage to 2.25V then you are actually setting it to 2.20V. If you could set memory voltage to 2.20V in the BIOS then you would actually only be supplying 2.15V. I would also like to have a 2.20V option in the BIOS but none have had this option, they just simply skip over it. I know my sticks could run with only 2.15V.

sorry man there is nothing to describe....just put the fsb to 380-390 and the multiplier to 9 to get the same speed you are running now, and you will have better performance than what you are running now

I have e6400@400x8(real vcore 1.26V from mbm5), GSkill HZ @1000mhz(4:5) (5-4-4-4)(2.3V), still dual orthos testing.
Temps: idle ~41-43, load ~50-54 (mbm5 coretemp plugin by FCG)
Any suggestions?

4-4-4-4 at 2.3v or a little less vdimm for 5-4-4-4

^ok thx ill try that. Anyone know what it means when orthos just freezes? I had dual orthos blend running and one just freezes up but has no errors displayed while the other is working fine. I also just killed the frozen up one and started a new process and it works but after a while that one freezes as well.

Also is there any advantage of changing SB voltage from auto? I also tried on 1.6v. btw I cant get 4-4-4-4 at 2.3 or 2.35v, ill try 5-4-4-4 at 2.25v though.

Usulalt not until you hit monster FSB's... like over 500 you might see some benifit from more SB volts, but maybe not too. you have to play with it.

ok thanks, btw I got it 11hrs orthos stable with with small fft's- but like before it was supposed to be dual orthos but one froze(but no errors?) after like 7hrs, anyone know why this happens?

I just wanted to test for stability at fsb 400 and work my way up from there. Below are shots of 7+ hours of Orthos running ram at 1:1. Voltages are

mem: 2.15
cpu: 1.425
fsb: 1.4
nb: 1.45
sb: 1.60

Next I'm planning on bumping up to fsb 425 running 1:1 with the memory and doing Orthos for another 10+ hours.

Looks really good so far. :toast: I have a couple of questions. What is your memory timings? What cooling are you using? Will this be a 24/7 running system and what is your primary use?

Why are you at fsb: 1.4, nb: 1.45, sb: 1.60, is this what your starting your OCing at or did you ramp up to it and then planning on lowering and testing for stability?

I'm on a E6600 and running fsb: 1.3, nb: 1.25, sb: 1.057, not directly related but the lower the volts the better in my book.

For cooling I'm using the Artic Freezer 7 pro with AS5 applied. Idle temps are in the low 20s. :)

This system will be on 24/7 as my main computer so I'm looking for a fast overclock but with complete stability. As for the voltages, I'm starting a little high but eventually I'll lower them and continue testing with Orthos. I agree the lower the better.

The reason why you get better performance is that when you boot at higher FSB than 400MHz the P5B-Dlx changes strap which means looser timings on the chipset. That makes the performance a bit worse.

Therefore, booting at 386 or 387 * 9 is better than 435*8 ;)

Do these settings apply to the P5B-E Plus as well? Mine is a C1, just got it last week with a E6300 and 2GB of Aeneon RAMs. The guy I got the RAMs from was running them stable on his DS3 @ 5-5-5-15 800MHz.

I've been trying to reach 333FSB first, but even at this low FSB, Orthos and Super PI tend to crap out pretty quick. Memtest86+ has 2 errors on the 3rd pass.

My settings:

CPU: 333
RAM: 666
vcore: 1.325
vdimm: 2.1
fsb: 1.4
nb: 1.45
sb: 1.6
ich: auto
CPU settings as per first page of this thread

I've tried playing around with the voltages abit, but to no avail. Incidentally, I use a HR-05 on my NB, but under load, I was putting my finger on it and it was barely warm. However, last I checked, contact was good between base and NB chip.

Any ideas on what settings I should change/adjust to get it stable?

Evilnick: Is that 333mhz fsb with your RAM multi at 1:1?

You might try setting your RAM to 'by spd' also for some testing. You could use memset in windows to figure out what settings it is getting and tweak from there.

Looks damn good to me. nice and cool with good mem and CPU clocks... Seems like a great chip you have.

Thanks to many informative posts (and to Bigtoe!) found on this forum I have managed some decent overclock with my cheap parts. :banana:

Here's some details from my E6300 on a P5B-Deluxe
CPU speed=3207MHz (458x7) at 1.385v
RAM is 2GB of some supercheapo PC6400 running at 5-5-4-15-6-25-10-12-10-12 at 2.05volt
PCI-E locked at 101 and PCI at 33

FSB term. 1.4v
NB 1.55v
SB 1.6v
ICH at auto

CPU is using the stock cooler, temps are a bit on the high side with TAT at 100% but I'm planning to fix that later either with some lapping and/or a better heatsink.
So far tested with a dual prime95 session for a couple of hours, no errors yet.

The memory is what is stopping me to go higher, it reached a wall at about FSB460.
No matter how much voltage I pump through it or loosen the latencies, the pc refuses to boot at anything over FSB460.
I know I should be already very happy considering that it was the absolute cheapest memory on the market and I can already get some extra 120MHz out of it.

Any suggestion?

To mention that I'm using an Antec 430w PSU with a 20 pin connector.
Does not seem to make any difference but then I only have a 7600gs in it.
The pc draws about 190w from the plug while running TAT.

Hrm OK, I was under the impression from most forum threads that By SPD was not recommended, but I'll give it a shot nonetheless.
I hope it's just the RAM that's having problems at higher speeds and not the CPU or Mobo lol.

I need help passing 3.6 ghz (400x9, e6600, max volts on everything, super-loose timings).

With Clockgen, bios set to 400x9, i can only reach up to 415, where orthos crashes on small ffts.

Max volts on EVERYTHING, 1.7 vcore, gskill zx @ 1:1 800mhz 5-5-5-12, max nb, max sb, max fsbterm.

maybe a bios update? (using 0804)?
