I doubt it, 26th March the NDA is done, and reviews will be up.
Skymtl just posted over at HardwareCanucks to stay tuned after the PAX reveal tomorrow as we "won't be dissapointed". I assume that means the reviews will start coming out after the PAX event...
There is a big hour-long announcement show tomorrow at 6PM, including some special guests. It will be streamed online but you will miss the effect not being there in person ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/paxeast.html )
The reason you will miss the effect is because they have a huge 3D projection wall powered by eight SLI computers and $75,000 3D projectors ( http://twitter.com/andrewfear )
According to my convo with NVIDIA, the live video stream has been cancelled due to the show only being broadcast in 3D. So, you won't be able to watch it over the internet as far as I know.
Sky, when exactly does the NDA expire and we'll be able to read your review?
It's going to be like a DoS attack on the review sites!!
I think the game developers never say the games are NVIDIA or ATI optimized, more likely they would deny that even if it was.
I remember when reading the following post of yours about GF100 possible launch date, l was a little worried that the Metro 2033 might be another TWIMTBG game. So why are you surprised that some people might got the same impression based on "random forum ramblings?"

My card still shows scheduled shipment of tomorrow... (homer simpson drool). Shame I won't receive it until Monday if that's the case though, since they don't offer Saturday delivery service.
Well then you can call me brown and hoping nvidia can deliver, we need the competition!
@snowman :
it's something called pre-order... you order, they get and send the day they get em, hopefully for goldentiger that'll be tomorrow :p
It's ingram micro distro links that do it automatically, not them directly... a lot of sites in the past have put pages up for them in advance for the last several launches ;). Not fishy at all. If I'm lucky they'll get it tomorrow, it will ship, and I'll have it Monday.
Thanks to trinibwoy for these graphs of those numbers:

benchies at guru 26th
from what i just seen you guys are going to have to eat some humble pie and crow.
or just find stupid sit to rag on nv about
guru3D review has 35 pages of content right now

I smell a secret weapon driver or last min optimization (BIOS) that's going to make the RED guys  and wake the beast  within Fermi.
There is a ton of hype around this card and they aren't going to keep it quiet tomorrow with 8 PC SLI? + 75K projector in 3D? However their claims of 2X faster than current cards could be synthetic tests etc. Hope that's not the case and we're all impressed.

I think everybody will make a 30+ review. I know I will :)
Looks like we have a lot of reading ahead! Always exciting times when new generations of cards come out
Wishful thinking. It's just a damn release :p:
Well, just going off those graphs trinibwoy made, its faster but not 2X fasterQuote:

They are in PA, a couple states from me, and I ordered with 2-day air shipping, so I am assuming hypothetically if it ships tomorrow that it would arrive Monday.
They said, in the WSJ article, "twice as fast as nVidia's current generation" NOT twice as fast as any current card.
And where does the comparison to a GTX 285 in the chart and my statement contradict what Nvidia said?
Is that not "nVidia's current generation?"
And what context was their statement based on anyways? Sure, if they ran the Heaven benchmark and said "look, 2x faster than our current GTX285"?
I mean heck, those numbers are from Nvidia's own chart, which people were trumpeting earlier
I have no idea how the hell you guys can preorder something that you have absolutely no idea of. It's not a $10 spending either, it's frikking 550 dollars
This, but I'm just after the best gaming card for personal enjoyment... I don't really care about benching nowadays.
It's not like it isn't returnable if it turns out to be really pathetic... I'll know in advance and be able to refuse shipment if so, but it would have to be very bad for me to do so: I haven't had a good experience with the 5870, so I am pretty much settled on the GTX 480. I haven't spent a dime yet ;).
I had an 8800 Ultra as well back in my day, although I'm not sure I could justify paying that much for a small improvement again (granted, I was one of the frontrunners of 2560x1600 so every bit helped), but the level of dominance of the G80 over the market was definitely the exception and not the rule
Now that we're back in competition and roughly yearly releases (and a slowdown in PC graphic demands it seems), getting a good enough card for my money has been a wiser decision.
we are getting closer to the 90 page mark and still no fermi in sight
Day before launch & Sn0wm@n keeps complaining...
Are you this pessimistic about everything, reviewers have cards, nda lifts tomorrow, we have the supposed final specs of the cards, we've seen box art as well as physical pictures of the cards.
Out of the 90 pages you've probably made 90 comments of the same nature...
No, he just desperately wants Fermi to be a gigantic flop. Why, is he an AMD shareholder? No. Then why? He doesn't know. He just feels that way.
There is no guarantee that you will get a good experience from the 480 either. As Carfax has repeatedly reminded us, the drivers for this architecture are relatively immature at this point. So while there should be a speed increase with future drivers (I'd guess at least 6% :)) there is the flip side that until the good drivers come out we will have to deal with the bugs that haven't been found yet.
Yeah that's tricky. There's no 1/2 Fermi equivalent in the GT200 generation to compare to easily. Best you can do is break down the theoreticals but since the architectures are pretty different that won't tell you much either. Average performance advantage over the GTX 285 was ~45% in Nvidia's benchmarks. That's fine for a refresh but kinda low for a new generation.
I think the 8800 Ultra was the most overpriced Graphic Card ever. Even more than GTX 280 for $650 was.
The Ultra was mainly higher clocked 8800 GTX for which I paid 600 CAD also not cheap but great card for the time. It's hard to believe that somebody was happy to pay 1000 CAD for the 8800 Ultra and I believe very few people did even buy that card.
I paid 700 CAD for the HD 5970, also overpriced but mainly due to the vendors price gouging and AMD not supplying enough of the cards to retail. The MSRP for the the HD 5970 is (or was) 599 USD.
Actually 5870 is %40 above 4870 too, but it can just be counted as a refresh :D
5870 is more like 50% above 4870. 40% above 4890.
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/h...ting_qualitaet
I also had the HD 4870 X2 and believe me it can hardly be called just a refresh.
Actually it is the first time I hear that the HD 5*** cards are just a refresh of the HD 4*** cards. So I don't get it what is the big smiley for.
EDIT
Sorry I posted before I did noticed your oops edit
35+ pages in review, good lord there's gotta be some juicy stuff in there. CANNOT WAIT!
You know, its not about being a fanboy...but personal preference. One faces many questions...but the answers doesn't have to be rational, although it may seem absurd.
Besides, there are many things numbers doesn't tell us about a product: such as personal experience. NVIDIA is more expensive than ATI at the same performance...but they give you more (cuda, physx, 3d, etc). Is that more worth it? That depends exclusively on you.
What I can tell you is that there are some things that just don't work well with ATI, like 120hz, screen flickering like using dual screens and such things. Yea, its unlikely, but 1+1 = 2...and internet is fully plagued of those errors...and they piss people off, seriously. I can imagine how has one to feel when he buys a 120hz TFT screen not to work on his newly come DX11 card :rofl::rofl:
Well, basically GTX480 is a doubled GTX285 (I don't know about rops) except the bandwith. 240 vs 480SP and 675 vs 700mhz core.
its hard to say that a 480 is a doubled 285. if you oversimplify to that point there really isnt much difference in any gpu. try comparing g70 to g80 on an alu or flops basis and you will realize that its a pretty abstract number.
It's not just him, we're on page 67 now... people saying page 90 have a low post-per-page count in their user options :p:.
Yup, page 67 now, but it was 66 at the time of your post.
That is a good point, but I have more faith in nVidia to deliver a well-working driver on a new card than I do in ATI from my own experiences, especially considering the 5870 didn't work well for me the 480 sure can't be any worse (I'd hope!) :).
It's already 26.03.2010 here, someone send me a review and i can post it
Apparrently Anandtech didn't want to chance maxing out there 850W psu on Fermi :).
http://anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus...oc.aspx?i=3780
I'm waiting for any kind of "leaked benchmark" posts any time now.
dont make any posts in this thread unless it's a full review from now on, you're just going to disappoint me
In quite a few games 5870 is pretty much a double of 4870, so not sure where this 40% nonsense is coming from.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...-GPUs-1920.png
still no awesome news?? no leaked actual benches from someone who definately has the card?? the leaked benches we have seen thus far i dont 100% trust
I'm not neon green or otherwise, I have a slight preference toward nV cards because of personal experience... I am not a fanboy who wishes, like many on these boards lately, that one or the other company falls on its face and dies :p:.
I still don't get what's funny about thinking two high-TDP cards might, under high load, overdo it on an 850w power supply with a high-end rig... guess you have to be dark red to get it? Me calling you a fanboy makes about as much sense as you calling me one, so let's go with it ;)!
5970 is a single card with dual-GPU's that are cut back and lowered clocks to fit inside a 300w power envelope. A single Fermi is supposed to be 250w TDP roughly. So again, if you put say two 5970's in a rig and were worried, why would it be "funny" to say "LOL ATI, THEY HAD TO USE A BIGGER PSU FOR TWO 300w CARDS LULZ"? Again, they are talking about TWO high-TDP cards: what on earth can that say that is "funny"? I guess if you were an ATI-fanboy you might think it's funny because it takes a lot of power, I guess?
its fermi humor ..... its suposed to be funny
I think he meant its funny because they needed to use a 850W+ PSU for a dual card setup while the 5890 can easily do it. :shrug:Remember 5890 is a dual card regardless you wouldn't go comparing 4 GPUs vs 2. Small misunderstanding.
Back on topic, when does the NDA end? 12 pm EST?
...which equals 2PM UK time....
goldentiger, maybe we shouldn't feed the trolls....
It's actually 4 hours, so it will be 11PM (today) in the UK, because it's already Friday here. :)
http://www.provantage.com/pny-techno...b~7PNY90P3.htm
$485.80 GTX 480 Fermi listing. Think I'm going to cancel my $513 order that had 2-day shipping ($22) and see what hits stores tomorrow...
yup.
My bad.
It is midnight Friday...
Too sleepy for calculations :D
EST = UK time - 5 hours...
Still, *1.2 FREAKING Kilo-Watts*, "just in case", "just to be safe"... That's indeed very funny.
To power a Quad SLI 480 setup, you'll need this:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/me...15A9A006_1.jpg
Provantage is a good company, they will come through on the order if they show it "in-stock", they usually specify how many they do have in stock.
Edit: I just noticed it says "special order", for them that usually means they will order it from you, but it ships from the manufacturer or has a waiting time for it to come in stock...
no reviews till nda expires at 7pm est....
Haha, too true... I can think of many times I have thought I SHOULD have gone for faster shipping, and only one where I vaguely regretted doing so (overnight for $20 more over ground, and even then I didn't really think it was bad per say).
EDIT: I feel like a tool doing so, but I'm emailing them asking them to disregard my last email and hoping for the best... :p: . I'd rather not have to camp out newegg tomorrow hoping I get an order in etc. etc. Guess I'll find out in the morning if it gets cancelled on me or not :(.
NDA up yet? Need benchmarks, numbers, fan noises .... anything.
Hey guys, thanks for that Provantage web! Never heard before, and is a relief to have a world shipping web site in the hand, au revior importers and that 30% extra product charge!
