Hi guys . I use Prime95 a lot . I have seen it crash just under 1 hr . I read this whole thread and a lot of people have issues on running Prime95 for more than 1 hr . Why don't we use OCCT . It is a 1 hr run and it is a very good stability test . http://http://downloads.guru3d.com/OCCT-%28OverClock-Checking-Tool%29-3.0.0-download-1880.html
I see that many of you guys leave your HT clock at 2 GHz, even though your NB is overclocked. Is there any special reason for this?
HI Lunait . I run my PH II X4 940 @ 3.913 MHz , HT @ 2608.9 MHz , NB @ 2809.5 MHz . Its good to keep HT and NB as close as possible to eliminate any bottle necking . Its important to know I am overclocking all three by multiplier's .
@Lunait: reading a bit I found HT have almost no effect in performance, while NB oc lowers L3 and memory latency, which is always welcomed. That I guess is what makes people leave HT at 2ghz and only overclock the NB.
//EDIT: I've always overclocked through FSB speed rather than multiplier (mostly because up until recently all my procs were multiplier locked). I mean, it's always been better to OC the FSB leaving a lower multiplier if possible, why suddenly it's not that important? I've seen lots and lots of OC with 200x19.5 instead of 279x14. New board doesn't support high FSB or what?
Well, that's the good thing about AMD Black Edition CPU:s - you can overclock each component separately using multipliers (although the RAM has to be overclocked using FSB). Or are you saying that overclocking using FSB is better than using the different multipliers, even though the same frequencies are achieved?
Agree with you there...I would rather OC the CPU, NB and to some extent the HT separately using the multis and then use the fsb for the smaller increments that can take u to the best highest clock...
Overclocking by way of the 'FSB' does not always yield the best results. If you take a look at the two screens below for the example you will see that the first one is using multi's only to overclock with the CPU at 4013MHz and the NB at 2809MHz and the score was 16696. After that I tried to overclock using the reference clock (FSB) and the second screen shows the CPU at 4005MHz and the NB at 2937MHz but the score is about 500 points lower. In both these test memory is almost the exact same speed. You would think with the NB aver 100MHz higher that the score would be higher as well.

That was my question in the first time, in the 939 ol'times (:D) it was all about getting a DFI SLI-DR to get ridiculous FSB speeds to use with a 9x multiplier locked Opteron 165. IIRC there were FSB speed records like 600+mhz (being 200mhz the default speed too).
Hi Lunait . I'm apologize for the error I typed in my message . My HT link is at 2608.9 MHz , NB 2809.4 MHz . Yes that was my initial point I like to run both HT and NB at the same speed if possible . My memory runs at 535.2 MHz ( 1070.4 MHz ) I fixed the error in the original post .
Ok after 2 days of testing, I got some numbers. No screenshot as I am in my laptop, you'll have to trust me ;) passes 1h OCCT:
Phenom II 550 unlocked X4 with Asrock 790GMH/128M with OCZ Reaper DDR2-800 (really weak ram, so not much ram testing), PC P&C Silencer 370w.
1.175vcore, 12.5x260, 3.25ghz
1.3vcore, 13x260, 3.51ghz
1.4vcore, 18,5x200, 3,7ghz (havent tried high FSB with this vcore yet)
Not going much further, as I'm on the stock AMD X2 cooler, it's already 68šC when stressing at 1.4v
I'm gonna settle for 3.25ghz with 1.175vcore, having the cheapest PII running closer to the most expensiveone is sweet enough for my mom's computer
Either that or 3.5ghz with stock vcore, what would you say?

Can anyone explain why this cpu has a stock Vcore of 1.35V?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../32GHz116V.jpg
This is even with a 64 bit OS which is supposed to be harder on the cpu stability, ie should require more vcore for stability.
Donīt know if i can replicate this with the stock cooler though, temps were only 34šC full load, idle only dropped 1-2C° coming from 1.38Vcore.
pretty happy with these, 4305mhz on water for spi 1m. pretty decent 32m also

Can't get past 3.7 stable on my x4 955 you can see my case and cooling in my sig. 3.8 crashes hard as soon as I start pime95 or occt.
Thanks for your help
same with me let me be more specific maybe some one will help. I'm still a noob.
Ok I can get only to 3.7 stable using OCCT, intelburn, prime95 here are my OC specs
v core 1.4
cpu/nb 1.3
NB freq 2600
memory have not messed with it
My temps at 3.7 are around 37-38C idle and 48-50 load
Stock they are 32c and 41 load.
at 3.8 my temps are good I guess right around 58c load but it still crashes. Is it my memory? I really need some help.
So here are my questions.
1. Do I need to re-seat my mega shadow. I used the card spread method?
2. Do I need better memory I have 2GB of this Crucial Balistix and I'm running windows 7 64bit?
3. My bios is 1.3 there is not a bios update for windows 7 yet. Well I don't think. could it be that?
4. my case is in my sig a k62 and my house temp is 75 degrees. Is my ambient temp bad?
Thanks
The GD70 has 1.5 and GD70 Winki Edition has 2.0.
I would possibly update the bios to see if you can get any better o/c's on it.
Just make sure you follow the bios flash instructions very carefully! :)
Have to add one more to the list btw.

Temps are probably your problem. Thats a nice cooler, and with the voltages your running 58c seems a little high to me. You might want to try and reseat it. I always use the spread method myself, just don't use too much... ;)
On most boards I've used the PHII's seem to get a little squirely when temps get ~54c.
A couple things you can try:
1) Lower NBvid, you may not need 1.3v to achieve 2600. This should help temps.
2) Lower NB clocks and voltage to stock until you find max stable on the cores.
3) 1.4v on the cores seems a little low to get clocks above 3.7. If you can keep your temps under control (<54c under load), you should be able to slowly raise that voltage to settle things down. Anything up to 1.5v should be safe on air.
Hope this helps..... Dave
Sorry for my English again :D

the temp 38C (after a hour goes at 41C, never more) on a 17C room, let me explain the past of my rig, i had a NZXT Apollo with stock fans and a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer with stock fan i hit 49C in still a 17C room, then i tried with the Scythe splitstream fan on the sunbeam then it was 45C but it vibrates on the sunbeam but not with the stock fan, then i changed to a TRUE with the scythe splitstream fan, hit 43C no vibration, but i needed to remove the door fan because i couldn’t close it with the TRUE, so i changed the case with a Gigabyte iSolo, replace the stock fan with 2 Scythe S-Flex 1600rpm, now i hit 38-41C.

I can confirm an unlock on 0922MPMW.
Mobo is a GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+
memory is G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB
The board was put in a Lian Li HTPC case I had sitting unused with a good power supply. Total cost of the build was under 330 bucks, which also included a 1TB 7200.12.
I had been leaning towards the propus until I stumbled across this thread and boy am I ever glad I did. It was a gamble not knowing if I was going to be able to unlock or not and I was kind of regretting not going for the "sure thing" until I got the board installed, did the hybrid setting change and posted successfully. I installed Windows XP onto a old raptor 74GB I had laying around and so far this thing is rock solid. The only other setting change I've made from AUTO in the bios is DTC to enable dual channel, which is still running at 800.
I feel like this is the best bang for the buck build I've ever done. I need to validate with stress testing tomorrow that everything is stable, but so far its up and running like a champ in XP, without any signs of instability. Kudos to AMD for leaving the heat sink layout unchanged for so long too. I had an old opteron heat pipe cooler that dropped right in place so I could avoid using that crap stock cooler. That's going to have to be replaced before any overclocking but I was happy I was able to use it.
My other rig right now is an E8650 OCd to 4.0 and this thing feels just as quick jumping around in windows. I can't know for sure which will be faster until I OC and benchmark, but for the 330 bucks this entire thing cost me it's a no brainer performance \ price wise. I can't be happier.

Anyone doing better w/ a 945?
At least I don't think my K9A2 Plat is holding me back. Hell of a board considering how old it is.
Just reporting the results on my "old" 955BE build:
MB: DFI 790FXB-M3H5
RAM: OCZ 1600 CL7 LVAM
CPU: 955BE 0911 EPMW ...090006 (as picking low numbers seemed like a good practice while ago)
Default voltage: 1.325V (quite a low one!)
Cooling: TRUE Black with BTK rev2 in vertical mount, 2xSFlex G at 1.5K
Case: PC-B70 (front in 2x14cm, rear out 2x12cm, closed case)
PSU: PCP&C Q750W
VGA: 4890 8+6 pin (ugly hot idle under cpu!)
Fixed settings:
RAM: 1333 6-6-6-24 1T Unganged, 1.657V (strangely this cpu can't even POST at 1600 divider using orange slots in two M3H5s, only on yellow it does fine, even at 1600-7-6-6-24, else there seems to be a barrier at 1425MHz when upping HTT)
NB:1.250V (def), HTT 2.0GHz (upping to 1.290V didn't help for 3.8 with less vcore)
CPU-NB: 1.275V, 2.6GHz (haven't tried less yet, 2.4 needed 1.225V)
SB 1.2V PLL:1.20V (def)
NB HT: 1.270V (def)
NB PCIE : 1.120V (def)
ACC: ON (auto all cores)
For 12h Prime Stable on Windows Vista 64bit; temps before stopping CPU/SYS/NB šC:
3.6 GHz (18x200) 1.375V, (when this was tested NB was at 2.4GHz, 1.225V, didn't take temp notes)
3.7 GHz (18.5x200) 1.400V, 48/43/54šC
3.8 GHz (19x200) 1.475V, 50/43/56šC (actually made 24h)
My target was 1.450V given that this cpu looks to be leaky, and I don't know if 1.475V is too much for 24/7 use...
I was afraid my PWM would blow, but temps seem to be decent with this case and cooler after long primes, even if in a closed room.
I had BSODs bccode: 124 around 8-10h at 1.450V, and in less than 3h at 1.425V. At 3.8GHz 1.45V I tried both to up NB to 1.290V, or set CPU-NB to 2.4GHz at 1.275V or 2.6GHz at 1.30V without any change to the usual 8-10h BSOD, so I settled at 2.6 1.275V which seems stable and unrelated to this crash. Upping to 1.475V vcore seemed to solve it instantly, even if doubling testing time to be sure, so I guess temps weren't directly the issue.
For what I see around, 1.475V seems way too high for 3.8GHz on a 955be, and it seems to be quite a jump from 3.7GHz at less 0.075V. But I don't know if vista 64 is always in use, or if users are considering the old rule of at least 12h prime. As for a couple hours of prime 1.425V would suffice, while 1.45V would seem to pass a user ended 8h test with this cpu.
If anyone has suggestions on how to drop .025V I'd be grateful! Thanks!

That's why It's harder for me to achieve high frequencies just for validation. I'm only setting the values in bios and rebooting.

Hi guys, long time no see!
Anyway, 955 Black edition, on air, completely stable on XP 32bit - it'll go to 3700mhz on this voltage but the temperatures start pushing it a bit - it's still on the stock cooler.
Northbrigde and HTT will both go to 2.2Ghz with a touch more voltage but I couldn't see the point and dropped them back to stock for now.
I've a way to go yet but I think 4ghz stable on air might be in reach, I'm only on a 4 pin CPU supply rather than the new 8 pin connectors so that should help a little in that regard too:

I noticed for my rig, I had to bump the SB voltage really high to get any stability. If I drop it at all, I lost my OC. Could be due to old hardware though.
PM me if you want my settings, granted, having an am2+ board (MSI K9A2 Plat) that has the old sb600 and ddr2 1000 will change things, or maybe I lucked out with my chip.

But Thereīs nothing i can do. My processor is not prime 95 stable under 4ghz.
I tried so many configurations :
1.39V 4ghz (System crashed then reboot)
1.40V 4ghz (System crashed then reboot)
1.42V 4ghz (System crashed then reboot)
1.44V 4ghz (System crashed then reboot)
please help....
I have 2 CPUs 0952 - one 955 (from the signature) and one 965 (0952GPMW).
965 is stable at 4GHz with 1.425V, but it was impossible for me to get it stable with NB higher than 2.6. The other one (955) is good for 24/7 usage, makes 4.1 with 1.5V and 4170 with 1.55, but it sucks in benches, doesn't like higher voltage at all. Its IMC is better, but not as the one of my first 965 (0945DPAW).
You can try to push some more voltage on the NB and CPU-NB.
You can also try to lower everything except the CPU frequency and see if you could get it stable. Also watch your temps, I don't know what's your cooling, but that could be the problem.
Man imagine, I live in Rio de Janeiro. Itīs summer.
I think itīs a good processor.
But i really wanted to break the "magic 4 ghz"...
I think I donīt have a Good PSU (Coolermaster 460w)
and also, I donīt have a good motherboard.
Itīs a gigabyte GA-78GM - US2H ... no SB750 or SB710...
itīs SB700...
bye
thanks for the response...
Thats amazing.
I could get 3970mhz at 1.36V Vcore
with NB@2600mhz at 1.25V
Good enough?
Itīs Prime Stable...!
no reboots at all...
Now I going to change my motherboard (Am2+) for Better overclocks and Bandwith
Currently is a Gigabyte GA-78GM- US2H no ACC.
I need a suggestion please :
I hope I can Get 4ghz Stable with one of there :
Biostar TA790GXBE 6.x with ACC or
Biostar TA790GXE 128M 5.x with ACC or
GA-MA785GM-US2H with ACC or
ASUS M4A785-M with ACC
Please suggestions!!!
=D

hey all
Bobehud here and this is only my second OC first was with a locked 9750 quad that taught me a great deal stable for years after 20 hrs-max load prime no blend.I was at 2.75 now for a 2.4 chip doesnt sound like much bear in mind it was a locked chip.
Okay enough babble as i got this am to cl on my OC it just passed the 12 hr mark 3817 with a 955 c3 with 1.45vts to chip.
My question is it is keeping cooler temps at full load NOW than when i went to bed from 51-52c down now to 48-49c does the thermal paste need to get a better bond and that is the reason a better heat transfer..?
received my 955 c3 today. some quick testing, wanted to get a general idea of a max below 1.4v, not much room to tweak with this mobo (sig), but i'm satisfied so far. cooled by true 120 black with two low speed 120mm fans push/pull. hopefully 4ghz with a little more volts/tweaking.

Hi guys, I will try with my rig this night and post the result here....let's see if a get the 3.8GHZ stable.
I'm running BOINC 64 crunching for a good cause and I've got my OC at
3.9 ghz and voltage is at 1.38. My machine is on forced outside cooler air. While running BOINC @ 100% in an 80f room(loft area) and about a 68degee intake temp ATM, my peak load temp was at about 56c. Is that too hot for 24/7? If so I'll dial it back to 3.8ghz where the peak was like 53.5c.
Thanks for the advice!

3.8ghz sounds like a good spot for crunching imo and on stock voltage awesome.
Better cooling that could keep you under 50c peak and youd be running 4ghz no problem with some more voltage.
I have been crunching 4.0ghz all week ;)

Thank you I reposted in AMD section too.
Thanks! I'm trying to lower my vcore to see what I can get away with and remain stable hopefully lowering my temps.
Wow! I might have to invest in a H20 loop for my Thermaltake case.

Hi all.
I have a question. For the suicide list, isn't necessary Prime95 right? only the CPU-Z validation and screen?
Hi, this is my OC.

I've got mine running cool thanks to my new H50 / Forced air/AC if I want it setup in my loft. Note my temps in the picture 39c at 100% BOINC load. This is my gaming and crunching at night config. For crunching during the day I throttle it back to 3.4 do to higher ambient temps.

I'm ready for summer! By turning on my AC the idle temps drop to 17c and load is at about 32c at 3.96. I know it's ugly but it was cheap and fits my needs. I'm very happy. :)
