Good news for crunchers?

AMD quad 1.8ghz - $100 - $130?
sorry, but i had to post this team
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/te...mId=MVD97WPSP1
LOL, yet respectable at the same time
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4...tbigrb7.th.gif
They may rank pretty low on the geek chart but they can crunch pretty well just the same.
Here's a look at ESL's team stats.
http://statsnstones.tswb.org/TeamUse...8&teamid=18399
As you can see, there is no big individual cruncher. Just a lot of people contributing. Sometimes that can be effective.
Expect big results today. For some reason everyone's numbers are spiking. WCG just implemented a new BOINC code. Not sure if that's the reason behind the spike.
Looking at the BOINC stat totals so far today, a lot of people's numbers appear to be higher - 25% higher in some cases. Anyway we know for sure in about six hours. By the way, I'm not complaining.:D
Bah! The babysitter called me & said that my main rig has the bsod!!! this really sux!! I changed the psu over the weekend & all was good. I cant wait to get home & check it out.:(
Ah, found the reason for the spike. Some people received double credit. Can't complain about that.:D
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/fo...d?thread=18887Quote:
Due to a bug, members who had results validated between the time we updated the server until now were granted credit twice.
Unfortunately, there is no way to identify which users were impacted. As a result, the extra credit is going to be left in place.
We apologize for this bug and we are installing corrected validators now.
Oh darn about the double credit. :D
Gotta love those bugs.:D

Another million plus day for Victor.:)
ddtung - 1,024,174
Now those are NICE numbers!
A few other familar names had impressive days..
Adywebb 249,048
ShootStraight 238,262
123bob 213,083
DCManiak 209,632
WindForce 182,257
RSmura 166,161
XS_olympic 164,255
VietOZ 162,557
HMM, now if only I can get that crazy cruncing Brit to park his butt here at Xs where he belongs!
He's too Xtreme to be anywhere else!
Again, the numbers are misleading because double credit was awarded while WCG was updating the server. But the bug benefited other teams as well.
The total run time is a dead giveaway that something unusual was going on. Also, it pays sometimes to have an 8-core cruncher.:D
Sweet dude!
Another good day :)

We have really moved up on the average / day
Only have 38 quads running this week as I replace some of the QX6700s and Q6700s with Q6600s. But will be moving to 40 quads by end of next week.
DDTUNG:cool:
"Only" 38. ;)
Why are you replacing the Q67s? Are they still B3 revision chips?
Not a bad day with only 38 quads running.:D

I think we really need a recruitment campaign, if we had only doubled our number to about 500 returning every day, we would "quad" force us to the top! I will order a quad, whos with me?
Ok, DDTUNG,lol, gotta keep my word, ordered a q9450, but........, when will that arrive?
Atleast, my second e8400 is now underway!
410-420 USD, i think, 2206 Nkr is what im paying!
Quad #39 is back on line. Expect #40 by end of the week.

Guys, we have to do better than this. I know some of you are giving it everything you have. But only 255 of our BOINC users returned results today. We aren't going to catch anyone unless more people step up to the plate.
(End of speech)
I'm trying my best, but I agree that 255/720 isn't great. I have three computers crunching away for the team.=]
And thanks for your effort. By the way, I see this is your first post. Welcome.:) But I know you've been contributing for some time now.
When I compile the stats every day, it's a little disheartening to see zero's next to a lot of team member's names. I know there are those who have lost interest, others who are concerned about their power bills, etc. As I mentioned elsewhere, people don't have to run at full load to contribute. Even running at half load or part of the day will help. Also, I know this is strictly a volunteer effort. But I hope people will feel a sense of team pride. There's no reason why we should be getting beat by Easynews, even though they have a lot more members.
Power bills are the least of most people from this teams concerns as far as I can tell from reading around the forums. All of these people benching and spending tons of cash on there systems can't be hurting for cash much! lol
I'd like to be able to afford beefing up my computer. =p
Thanks for the welcome sierra!
I hope to have another machine crunching within a month. I'm just waiting for some of the newer boards to be released. I could put something together within a week. But I want a really fast board. My philosophy is, why not crunch in style.:D
Heh, I'm 17 with no job so I can't afford much atm. I'm really wanting to build a quad based system though. XD
I sometimes dream of having 40 quads like DDT - in much the same way that I dream of dating a super model. I know it's not going to happen, but it's always fun to plan a new build. So in that vein, what do you have in mind? I'm guessing X48?
Welcome to the team and thanks for helping!
17 is a tough time..No one wants to see you as an adult and your well beyond being a kid..Hard to find decent work..
Glad to see we got you on XS tonight.. That was a bit of a battle but Vapor came through for us..
Thanks Vapor!
It's rough going that long between builds. I'm trying to develop that kind of self control. This last time i bought all the parts and let them "age" for several weeks before putting them together. That way it doesn't feel as if its been so long since your last fix.
 The shortest amount of time I've put in between two of my machines is 3 yearsQuote:

Yes, I'm a little surprised at myself. I used to buy a new board every other week. lol. I have a 680i board that's been crunching non-stop for over a year. A lot of people said 680i boards were junk. My experience has been different. I think the 790i board may be a little cheaper than X48. Just a guess. The X48 boards are probably going to retail for $300 or more. I can get 2GB of DDR3 for around $200. I could buy six pairs of DDR2 for that much money.
I built my Abit IP35 Pro cruncher back in October. Since then I've bought a bigger monitor, a spare HDD and a wireless adapter. That's about it. The delivery trucks used to be in front of my house practically every day. At one time I had five DFI NF4 boards. Don't ask me why I had so many. I later sold them all.
I took this pic when I had "only" four.:D
sierra:
Do you bother with cases anymore? or, just put them in cardboard boxes? or, just layout around on a table?
this would be a good question for DDT :yepp:
I just picked up a MARS board and planning on getting a 790i for sure and a 780i maybe
I've heard great things about the mars:up: . Great voltage regulation and quad clocking. Almost as good a clocker as the DFI P45 board and way less finicky. Also, Sierra if I had to guess I would guess that x48 wont be much more than 790i because with 780 still being relatively new I expect nvidia to market 790 as to the same segment as the ultra and keep 780i around as a slightly cheaper option. Plus, X48 is just a binned X38 so it doesn't cost much more to manufacture but it remains to be seen how Intel translates that into price;) .
speaking of that, what is the link for that deals thread of sierra'sQuote:

Arrrgh, my q9450 was supposed to arrive 26/3, will now arrive 22/4. Da** you Intel, ramp upp the production now!!!!! But, ill put up a e8400 and e6750 next week!, and maybe a pentium d 945.
A DFI X48 board will be available soon that supports DDR2.

+1
It's not like I couldn't pay the bill, but when I saw the last one with all the old clunkers running, I decided it was time to retire the old stuff. Just not enough output to justify the energy (as I could estimate from the HEAT they were putting into the one room !) I measured a few systems with my Kill-A-Watt and noted that it costs about $2/month less to run an older system than a quad, but the quad puts out 2-3 times the points per dollar !
if you can beat $72 shipped
I have a fan/heatsink, so I just need the chip
I'm already over budget, because buy.com went up on their ip35-e by 20% in 2 days, even though they said that the price was good well into next week:mad:
as far as that goes, I can give you a list of the other stuff I need
I would surf the FS threads, but it's so hard looking for what you specifically need in there.
So you already purchased the board? If you don't mind rebates, Newegg has that same board for $59.99 (after rebate). Link
no, I haven't purchased it yet, but I can't really count MIRs
While we can still use them, I have what I can spend now, and that's what I have to use
I'll probably just sit on it, and wait for the one or more of the components to go back down so I'm back in budget.
edit: OR, I could 'sell' him two of my ballistix sticks for what I paid after MIR. I'd have to look and see if that would work....
edit2: nope.....grrrr:mad::mad:
edit3: AH HA, since it doesn't look like I'm saving any money by stacking shipping right now from newegg, I'm going to let him use 2 of my ballistix sticks until the MIRs return, then buy him some ram
Better day for us. Need to find a way to breach 5 million permanently

BTW I just noticed my WCG stats bar is goofy, reports 928,863 but I have 1,454,261 .... *edit* fixed. Oooo I'm coming up on 1.5M!
I had been wondering if you went all out for air.. or if there was a bang for the buck/mass alternative that was a better idea.
Its hard to look seriously at other sinks after handling a TRUE though... I know I am addicted!
ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme
((I had to ask Dave the same question once not too long ago!))
I'll have to try one on my next build, of course unless I come up with another van radiator....:p:
I've been stuck on the Zalman 9700s for my aircooled machines. How does this compare to that?
Regards,
Bob
