Yup, I restarted, and it STILL has the yellow sign...I have my onboard wireless disabled. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I will change BIOS to enable it and see what happens.
-jeeka.
EDIT: I turned ON DRAM Static Read Control, or whatever it's called in the BIOS and now I am getting 8541Mb/sec. in Sandra...
same issue here with the 0703 and usb.
My wireless is disabled also.
Must be a bios bug?
This is my front USB port, which is plugged into the headers that are nearest the JMicron IDE Ports at the bottom of the MB. To clarify, it's the right header, which is nearest the JMicron IDE Port.
Totally agree about that site, this site is so much better, more knowledgeable people here! AsusTek is full of whiners and not much good if you need help. When I had my P5K Deluxe hooked up (RMA'd it, to many problems) I didn't get much help there. I eventually will put it all back together but my 680i is running so well I haven't seen the need to do it but when I do I'll come here and go over all 1500+ posts
Well maybe the first 5 or 6 :D
Yep, it has to be a bios related issue since all of us have the same problem.
jeeka thats right, my front usb ports don't work and i'm using the header wich is closer to the place where you connect the speaker, power button etc.
Hope those chucklehead BIOS writers at Asus are watching this thread! 0707 must be coming sooner than later now that they forgot to test whether all the pieces of the MB work! My unborn daughter could have done a better job QA'ing these BIOS's....
I must say though, that the organization and new bits of this BIOS are really cool. Plus, I think the system is much more responsive, at least to me. Must be some placebo effect coming into play.... :)
I didn't mean to imply that Vdroop is literally gone. With the earlier bios I had to set Vcore at 1.575 to end up at 1.51 under load. Now I have bios Vcore set at 1.55 to end up at 1.51 under prime 95 load - a substantial improvement which I hope will allow me to go a bit higher - perhaps to that elusive 4.0ghz. We will see tomorrow.
Same issue, USB 293C
But i like the new settings options in BIOS
I lost about 1000 marks in 3dmark06 after updating to 703.
It seems that changing transaction booster levels from bios doesn't affect performance.
The worst thing is that i can't downgrade even with afudos 2.19 . It stucks at "advance check" .
I wondered how long before someone would catch me on that. Actually, the droop also improved to .01 but the greatest improvement was in drop. :)
droop, drop it all comes out in the wash, no?
Ugh!!!!
I decided to try 703 coming from I think 603..
I also decided to follow counter CS's clear cmos, and pull battery, ETC.
what he said is really basic, but I have to admit, I just flash, and then set my values back, SOMETIMES I clear cmos, but almost never pull battery..
Well, I dont know what is with this bios, or if it's because I never followed basic
bios upgrade procedure, but with previous bios,i had to set it to 1.58V in bios for me to hit
3.9 small fft's stable with a Q6600 GO, with temps near 70. But now with 703 I have hit 3.9 small fft's with 1.46 in bios, and CPUZ showing 1.424!! (so I have a .036 droop, hmmm.). and my temps are 50 full load (water)
BTW, I am an hour into this prime, but anything less than 1.58 with old bios, I would almost always get a reboot within 10-15 mins..
I get the yellow flag on usb device too..
Seems like a really good bios othwerwise.
Nostromo
they must be reading something(asus), i checked thier site and there is no trace of the new bios for p5k-deluxe wifi... still 603 latest...
I don´t have Vdoop now.
Set 1.35v BIOS
Windows idle 1.336v
Windows load 1.336v
Pencil Vdroop mod with pencil"B4" :)
timber715,
The 0703 bios is on the ftp site so far, not the web site.
can anyone say what bios is the good one fore this board ?
    I am officially giving 4 thumbs down to BIOS 0703, no onboard wireless, USB 293C Errors, which means front panel USB's not working, as well the the ports connected into the headers next to it as well....
I can't flash back either, I have tried AFUDOS 2.07, 2.11, 2.17, 2.27. The only one that gets me anywhere is 2.27, but it tells me that the "Main BIOS Checksum is bad"....
Am I F'd?
Anyone else flash back from 0703? Which version of AFUDOS have you tried?
I used floppy as well as USB Stick methods...
Thanks,
jeeka.
I also have the exclamation mark in device manager for usb but all of my usb connections work - go figure.
otoh, My vdroop is less with 0703 and all temps are lower (unless they are being erroneously reported). I am cautiously happy with the revision - perhaps the final release will be out soon.
Jeeka, how can you attempt bios flashback with a floppy on a 2 meg file?
genec57,
That is what I said too :) I 'tried' and didn't bother to see how big the file was beforehand, so that is where I hit a roadblock :D.
I do like the new options/layout stuff, it DOES seem to work smoother than previous BIOS's, but I need my Front Panel USB's (my onboard wireless I don't care so much for). I hope they fix these issues and release a new BIOS revision soon, seeing as how I can't seem to flash to previous versions.
I guess I am stuck until they decide to release another version...
jeeka.
I made it to roll back bios ... :D
I followed the old time classic method of corrupting bios by trying to find the max FSB that board will post.
After playing 10 minutes ... At around 580 the screen freezed ... I pushed the reset button and got the message of corrupted bios , asking for a new bios image to restore.
The bios was restored from the original P5K cdrom . Version was 123 . The next step was to update to a newer bios . Using asus update from windows , i updated to my favorite 0601 .
Now everything is working properly ... and i found the way to revert any bios back !
Sounds like a delicate balence between a toasty mobo and a corrupted bios :).
Whatever works. Did you do it that way on purpose or was it just serendipity.
Will 0123 work with those of us who use q6600's and up? I thought there needed to be a minimum BIOS before it could POST?
Just a thought to look into before we go trying this. I have a spare chip, but only a e6600 and e6700, not sure if those would POST with BIOS 0123 even...
Anyone have info?
jeeka.
nice! Thanks!
Did you do anything special with multipliers/voltages or anything, or did you treat it like you were trying to really OC your e6700? AKA, did you pump vCore and vNB?
I would imagine you dumped down the multiplier to even get it to react at 580fsb?
I left the vcore at the default value i'm using for 24/7 . Even 600x6 is very easy with 1.4V and my CPU , so select the vcore accordingly.
Nbcore & sbcore at auto . Vdimm at 2.1V (24/7 value)
The multiplier has been dropped to 6 . Transaction booster to relax level 1 . Static Dram disabled .
After setting these values , i started raising FSB.
It's not easy to make it corrupt ... but if you have patience , you'll make it .
I don't know if this has been posted before, so here it goes :
I got my P5K Dlx and tested it yesterday, but it wouldn't boot. Since I changed my MB because the old one was dead, I thought it might be the CPU.
But it wasn't. It worked fine when I took out one of my Crucial 10th anni. sticks, and just used one at the time... Anyone know how I fix this problem?
And when I try to boot with more than one hdd, I get the "Chassis Intruded", and it won't go longer. How do I fix that?
Tuppen^^
Get to cmos with one ram stick, increase the vdimm voltage to 2.1, shut down and add the rest of your ram.
^^^What genec57 said....
I found out my problem isn't the MB, it's one of the ram sticks.. one of them works fine, but the other one is dead...
Why have just one of the sticks died?
Get MemTest, and test them in different slots, too. That is, providing you can even boot using the 'bad' stick....
the problem is that I can't boot with the "bad" stick
Yup, sounds like you are right in your diagnosis....Have you tired testing the RAM in another machine, if available?
No, but with different mobos and different cpus... So it could count as different machines xD
:) That should do it, as long as you want to spend the time to dig out your parts and swap stuff around, I would say it's worth a couple hours.
But do anyone know why I get the "Chassis Intruded" message when I boot? (I have not mounted the MB in my rig, but am testing it on my desk).. How do I get this away?
is there any jumper you have to short?
so bios 703 did get released for P5K deluxe wifi app with all the bugs on it... no wifi and no front usb headers... any fix on this yet? came from 601 and had a dual channel mode bug(putting my RAMs on asymetric mode), got fixed with this bios but with other bugs that is worse than 601. hopefully asus gets this one fixed soon... if anyone is getting a work around this bugs, please share it with us...
cheers
And what BIOS version is the best for overclocking? :)
Why do the multiplier for the CPU jump around? I set it to 8, and 400 FSB, but it jumps to 6 and 7... Sometimes 8...
How do I change this?
heh I didnt bother updating bios after my very first BIOS flash to the 0311.
Are there any significant improvement across these updates, havent been looking into this for some time now.
are usb connected to your case working fine? pls check device manager and see if the is a flagged usb port. also, you dont have a wifi app built in, so you wont have that problem...Quote:
huh? what other bugs? my usb headers work perfectly. ??
All my usb ports are working. There is one flagged in device manager but it doesn't seem to have any effect. I don't use the wifi so i can't address that problem.
thats correct, so has anyone seen a bug fix, not that you need to fix your flagged usb, but i do need mine working both front usb header and wifi.Quote:

The usb ports have reverted to usb 1 with this bios and there is that flagged one in the device mgr. This bios 703 is basically corrupt with no way to fix it but to wait for assus to get to it. What a mess. This really pisses me off! An other ideas on how to get 603 back?
I flashed back to 0603 via the crashfree bios utility and 0603 will no longer post other than at default checskum rom settings. So I was forced to go back to 0703 to be able to use my computer. "F" Asus for this mess. Yes I know it's beta, but come one. It's even on their main consumer site. They should be ashamed of this numbskull move. Quite frankly I think the board is permanently messed up by this. Looks like I'll have to get another board.
Great News (Maybe) Asus Posted 0705 update on the ftp. I'll try it when I get home. (fingers crossed)
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...%20Deluxe/
I have installed 0705 and no problems so far. No USB prob in device manager. Can't speak to wifi.
All other settings, temps, and voltages are ok so far.
That is good news.
Does anyone know why the mulitplier changes to lower levels when the rig is in idle? (I have only tested the card with overclocking, not in my 24/7 rig)
This is a useful feature for my 24/7 rig, but when I overclock, this is just a problem... How do I shut this feature off?
regards
C1E Suppport: Disabled
Wifi up and running as the usb headers are fine too... finally a fix.Quote:

edited: temps are down 1 or 2C... woot!
Still can't roll back to an earlier version and it seems less stable - I have had to increase Vcore at same oc settings as before.
Asus needs to do something about this rollback thing. It makes trying bioses very risky.
This is why I don't like to try beta BIOSs, especially if there's nothing wrong with the current one.
But I'm glad there are people with the courage who do... it deters those who may be tempted, like me.
705 fixes USB problem from 703 nice..
Very impressed they tweaked the Bios layout and options so late in it's release.
it really seems better than the previos ones as i am getting better results temperature wise....Quote:

With 705 all temps are reading 1C less. Speedstep seems to be missing now, but C1E seems to do much the same thing, reducing multiplier, not sure about voltages though? PECI is still missing, but that was a but phony anyways, I think it's all built-in now.
What is the address for the FTP site? If the 0705 Bios is as good as it sounds Ill upgrade to that one instead.
Don't do this, stay at 603 please. This shi* just :banana::banana::banana: up my mobo. I've did the trick to revert the bios. Before this :banana::banana::banana:ing bios I was able to reach 475x8 @ 1.38v with bios 603. After the recovery to 603 the board was completely unstable...not even boot at 450mhz FSb...
Man that :banana::banana::banana:ing company just piss me off :wth:  :hitself: :fight: :bsod:
Sorry for the last post, I was just a little nervous :(
To revert the bios:
1. Burn a CD with bios 703, 705 and any other bios (501, 601, etc..) renamed to "P5KD.rom". (You will use this to recover the bios after the process.)
2. Restart your computer, and enter "EZ Flash" (Alt+F2)
3. If you're using bios 703, you will start the process to update to bios 705...and if you're using bios 705, you'll start the process to update to bios 703.
4. In the middle of the process, when the bios was completely deleted, hit the "Reset" in your box.
The computer will restart asking for anything (flopppy, CD, Pen Drive..) with a file called "P5KD.rom" :) As the CD with this file was inserted before, your motherboard will start the recovery process to the bios "P5KD.rom" that you renamed before.
I don't call this process safe, but worked with a lot of people here :)
Rbs.
could that be the main reason why your motherboard is not stable anymore? besides the temp decrease for me, i got better oc that i previously had... not much but its prime stable.Quote:

Any more feedback about the new bios? Still no revert in the safe way?
Maybe this can help to the ones stucked with it:

I'm brand new here so can someone post the best bios version to use, and a link? Great thread by the way.
im in the same boat,my board came with 4303 or something like that, should I change it?
Dudes, I'm still on 304, any good updates or stick with 304?
Well this is a great thread. I'm sure I'll flash 304 as soon as I get around to it. I'm not throwing dry ice or nitro on the core yet. Just need to get it tuned and running stable first off. I'm going to be booting it up this afternoon so I hope I can dpend on you hard core folks to be here for me if I have any questions?
getting ready to boot. I'll keep updateing when I can
0404 seems to be the most highly regarded and stable. I am not at all happy with 0705 but I am basically stuck.
0404 ? anyone second that
Anyone having blackout issues with there LCD's and DVI?
I cannot get my monitor to display any video with DVI.
Dsub works, so does HDMI-DVI, but not DVI-D to DVI-D?
using 0705 currently and used 06xx series also.
Same problem
im on 0404 no problems so far.
im on 0601, looks perfect for me;
someone know what is clock over-charging mode, and CPU/North Bridge voltage reference?
nice tweak ChaosMinionX
thanks
yeah, i'm on bios 0705 and no issues whatsoever... my samsung 932B+ working fine on digital output... I find this bios to be better than all i had? including 311, 404. 501, 503, 601, 603 and the terrible 703. have my best oc with this bios too, dropped 2C from 603.
After i flashed with 0705 and restarted the PC died. No POST, no BIOS, no nothing. My memory requires 2.3V(cellshock cl4 1000) and booting with 1 or 2 sticks was impossible. The only way was to get a 1.8V memory and change the settings in BIOS to 2.3V and shut down immediately after exiting the BIOS.
Do you know any other way to cope with this problem?
Those that flashed to 0705 - how the heck are you able to keep your OC? With 0605 I could post w/ 400*9 @ 1.45. Now with 0705 I can't post with anything above stock :( The moment I make any changes to voltages or anything, thats the end of it..
Hmmmm, I was tempted to try that but I was just a bit leery of it - now I know why. Sorry about your misfortune. From my experience your board is toast - hopefully you are still in warranty.
It is a shame that Asus has put out a bios that will not allow you to go back. All previous bios's for this board have been reversible.
I am not at all pleased with the 0705 - I have had to bump my vcore a good bit to maintain the same oc as before.
I should know better - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Asus even tells us not to upgrade if you don't have a problem. Oh well, live and learn. X38 anyone? :)
same as everyone, in bios... with a flash disc...Quote:
How do you flash 0705 BIOS, EZ FLASH2 method?
(coz other people complain about this BIOS, ¿perhaps due a bad flash?)
My flash to 0705 has been pretty good. I wish I could flash back to 06xx so I can test my 3D Mark 06 scores. All voltages, timings and other setting have not had to be adjusted.....In fact, I ran my q6600 at 3.9Ghz (no volt change) for a while before taming it down back to 3.8Ghz, my previous OC with an earlier BIOS.
As far as this link:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...4&postcount=14
If you look at the guy's sig, he runs a P5K Premium, not a deluxe. I am not sure if this was meant for all p5K's or just p5k Premiums, or if he was helping someone with a p5k deluxe and just happens to run a slightly different board.......someone please correct me if I am wrong.
TinTin did a lot of early testing of the p5K premium - He posted these BIOS reversion details on this thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...151965&page=23 because some PREMIUM owners were having trouble reverting from latest 0504 bios to 0404. As you say -it may not have been meant for general P5K use.
Personally I wouldnt used asus update for anything especially on a deluxe - I killed my deluxe with a failed Asus Update flash which is why I now have a Premium as an RMA replacement.
0705 BIOS si not a BETA bios, works pretty well
:welcome:
for my system 0705 has its pros and cons
i use windows upgrade from the very first one to 0204,0311,0404,05xx,06xx and now 0705.
from 06xx to 0705
1, around 2~4c drop
2, similar function bios as x38
3, better timing of ram (previous 5-5-5-9-5-35-5-5-5, now 5-5-5-5-9-2-30-2-2-2 with the same volatage at 1200)
4, cpu is thirst (previous 1.22v[windows] at load for 500*7, now 1.25v/1.275v not so sure) or may be the vdrop is more, not tested precisely
5, not allow you to go back to previous old version of bios (but some one have already post the awesome tool for you to go back in this forum)
for me 0705 is so far so good, enough enough....
My board came with 404 bios. I just got it built the other day. No complaints at all on the 404 bios. great OC features and very user friendly. I love this board!
finally, someone agrees...Quote:
