I don't anticipate catching you again unless multiple smp rigs cut power consumption to the point I can stay out of 3rd and 4th tier home rates. :(

I'M BACK!!! Figured it was just as cost efficient to fold as it is to turn my heat on. Have 2x 9800GX2's right now I need more dummy plugs or if anyone knows a way around this.:up::up: Fahmon is giving me roughly 29k PPD.
Welcome back!
When you heat with electric (like I do) it only makes sense to run the computers instead of the heater :D My thermostat is turned off all winter in the computer room. When I was in college I actually had to keep the window cracked open otherwise it would get too hot :lol2:
Just installed smp jeeze that was easy somethings you just never forgot 3rd 9800gx2 is going to have to wait till tomorrow no more resistors :(
Well, It looks like my fall from grace is happening.
P2501 knocks me down to #10, and then here comes 123bob to run over me while I'm down...
I tell ya, it ain't easy bein' me!
http://people.hsc.edu/faculty-staff/...no_respect.jpg
Well, you DO know what the cure for that is, right......? :wasntme:
Now you know what to do, ok?
all join hands and repeat after me...."Is there anybody theeeerrrre"
*raises hand*
Just FYI to everyone - if you use a UPS on your main PC, you might want to adjust the settings on the F@H client to pause when the system is on battery. The default setting is to keep crunching away - It makes my UPS that would otherwise last around 10min die in about 3.
For those of you who run WCG on your CPU, the default setting for it is to pause on battery power.
Now I hope you will all let me be off topic for one post.
I read this week about a folding or crunching member who had ddr modules to sell,1GB if my memory is correct.
I can't access the classifieds but still I'd buy pretty much any kind of crap that ages from p3 and up. I pay for shipping. PM me?
Do you remember cash for gold? I offer you CASH FOR HARDWARE!
Do you feel like i'm hijacking the thread? Well.. I plan to put my oldie duron and pentium 3 and 4 from school auctions to work. I just have to call my 13yo neighbor to help me build new clean towers with all the old hardware.
Off topic is the norm :D
Sent you a PM.
Deal!
Thank you Sparky:D
Now, anybody has 1gb ddr2 sticks to sell?
I need them to power up a pentium D which will be folding whenever it's on (A)
2gb sticks would be even nicer but I'm not sure I can afford them :P
Sparky maybe?
Actually I have a couple of sticks of some
Samsung M378T2953CZ3-CE6 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM Non-ECC 240 pin 1.8V 667MHz Unbuffered DIMM Memory
That I would be willing to send you for the cost of shipping. Even tough i am not a member of this team I contribute heavily to folding and am willing to help out any folder that needs a hand getting a couple more PPD out there.

FF, regardless of your team affiliation, glad you're around here :)
I personally just passed 900,000 points today, and my team is almost at 1,100,000. :D

http://kakaostats.com/ad.php?col=6&search=Conman_530
glad to have found such a hospitable place as this one. I was having issues fitting in and many forums dont want another folder from another team hanging out in there forums. I decided after getting the problematic GTX 295s to cruise over and check EVGAs forums out. And I asked several question within there folding thread. After several days with no replies I received a PM from a member of there folding team telling me I would find no help within there forums, because I was a traitor for folding with a team other than theres.
This kind of attitude in general has put a bad taste in my mouth.
Looking forward to building a rig to throw in and lend a hand with this team as well.
Folding For The future

Haha not the first time i've heard of asshats at EVGA forums:rofl: Happens at large forums, this is why i don't want XS to get too popular...but it is inevitable...
Haha. I think the difference is XS is intelligent and mature enough to realize that most of us Fold for a reason more than just points and competition's sake, and that a cure for disease is much more important than partisan gamesmanship... :shakes:
We are....?
I mean, yes, yes we are. :D
Welcome FF! Although this forum has been quiet, the members always try to help those that post here! :yepp:
is there a special ritual or custom that you guys do when you hit your 1000th Folding@home work unit?
i was somewhere up at 990 work units when i took a break from folding over a year ago, (was using a netbook and the heat on my palms was unbearable) and now that i have the gpu client its been munching through work units like real fast , like....
so after a day and a half of gpu folding, im already at my 998th WU, on the old SMP client i was using on my q6600 this number would have taken a month and a half to reach
well then how about me about to break 500000 points?
That's awesome!
We don't really have any rituals, per se.
At least, I don't. Some around here are known to have some verrrry strange habits and customs.... :para:
well there i go, 1000 units http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/...ic&teamnum=278
i celebrated by finishing my 500ml tub of Ben And Jerry's "Half Baked" flavour ice cream
Ice cream sounds good right about now. *envy*
does anybody know why both my SMP and GPU clients are not using more than 13% cpu?
I am going to break 1,000,000 points either tomorrow or Thursday. :)
Thanks everyone here for helping me contribute to the cause. ;)
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/awards/c...000&t=wus&bg=3
sorry just had to post this... the actual certificates seem to take some time to update , last night i checked it still said 990 work units
Way to fold everyone, it's good to have you here! =)
Hey road-runner. Nice to see you pop in!
Oh no havent exceeded the cooling of the 10 x 10 room with 24,000 BTU A/C, exceeded my pocketbooks ability to pay for electricity. :D I still have Folding Texas yes just havent crunched on it in awhile.
I am running 6-i7s right now counting the main rig, got 3 more i7s and a 980x that are off right now, waiting on a little colder weather, running the windows client in linux with wine for bigadv since stanford screwed the linux client up....
Nice farm!!! :yepp: It sucks to be Utility limited. I just got my monthly notice that I'll be in the 5th tier, paying through the nose it I don't shut down for the month. :shakes:
I'm trying to get away from the GPU clients as the suck too much juice. And the 9800GX 2s are problematic as are my GTX 295s. Alas, I only have 1 I-7 920 @ 3.8Ghz and a 980x @4.0Ghz. :( I'm going to be ordering a 12GB ram kit so I can get the 920 off small work packets. :)
I am only running 3Gb of RAM on some of my i7s, that is plenty for Linux bigadv, even plenty running the windows client in wine. I know what you mean on the video cards sucking juice, when they came out with bigadv I sold all my video cards and quads, replaced with i7s.
i7s are great on bigadv folding and WCG, win/win situation...
Edited it in .cfg for big. Put a -bigadv in the shortcut parameters. Restarted. I'll report back if/when it gets a bigadv.
Which client 6.30? I just set the 6.30 with wine on 5 rigs last week and was able to change to big WUs and add the perimeters -bigadv and it didnt say anything about memory.
The 920 snagged one last night. With 1 gpu client running it's turning 39:58 frame times and showing 24,303 ppd. Machine total 31K + :)
31k....
*envy*
wow, i need to retire these gpus and build an i7 rig...
If you do retire a gtx260... lmk...
Fired up 3 more i7s a bit ago... :D
Nice RR!
:up::up::up:
Does fast memory or more than 4GB decrease frame times much on big/adv WUs. I was thinking about this kit for my everyday rig.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145326
And swapping 12GB of DDR 3 1600 to the I-7 920.
The price of that kit goes a long way towards an I-7 950 and another P6T though.
I have no idea to tell you the truth, my main rig has 3x2gb and windows 7, the one named classified has my 3x2gb of Corsair GT 2000 in it but also has a higher clocked cpu water cooled and linux, all rigs are linux except my main rig.
Some are only running dual channel a 1gb stick and a 2gb stick. I had bought some 3x1gb kits and 3x2gb kits same brand same clocks DDR 1600, after looking at how much RAM bigadv used in linux I decided to mix them in dual channel for 3gb total to avoid buying more RAM.
There all cooled different different coolers and different clock speed, it is what it is, I wasnt worried to much about max clocks, I just turn on another one if I want more PPD... :D

I have these mixed

Also using these in a couple rigs... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145225
Thanks RR. That makes the I-7 950 look much better. :) Here is the current WU on my 920 @3.8 with 4GB DDR3 1600. The gpu client isn't running here.

A report has been made that a fast CPU with slow RAM can be overall slower then a slow CPU with fast RAM. This may be due to the fact that the FahCore_a3 uses more RAM to process the bigadv WU then the standard WU.
Thanks for posting that coo-coo! I haven't been following the thread although I read the first post when it first came out. Most seem to reporting about a 1 GB and a half memory usage so far.
I was actually thinking about building a 2 proc 16 core AMD rig. I was drooling at the prospect until I read that a 24-core AMD rig was getting smoked by a 980x @4.2Ghz. That may change but since Intel still rules F@H, I picked up an I-7 950 and an X-58 Sabercat board for a 3rd I-7 build.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...y/daisymad.gif Back to the original topic, I'm from WCG! http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24.../donaldmad.gif
touche'!!
I say check out CATAWALKS, cuz he's pouring it on!
And there are a lot of folks getting run over!
:wtf:
yay! Running a 980x @ 4.2ghz with a gtx580 and 2 E5620's with a gtx480. Good times.
You're gonna smash me pretty good here in the next month or two.
:-) If I can keep it up. I woke up this morning to find that one of my machines had paused all clients because for some reason itunes.exe is on the games list in FAH GPU Tracker. Argh, that's about 8 hours or more of idle time.
I just saw MArvin the MArtian is banned, anyone have a clue why?
Happened a long time ago. He seemed a decent guy in general but he had some attitude/temper issues and blew up on people one too many times I'm guessing, I didn't see where or what it was that got him banned.
There are a few others on the forums that got banned that I'm not sure why either. Something, somewhere happened, but what it was I have no clue
Sadly I'm being forced to shut down my 4870, for the summer at least. The heat output and electric usage for such a relatively small output isn't worth it right now. It bites twice, as I have to pay to run it, then pay to run AC. Come winter, if I still have this card and haven't upgraded by then, I'll kick it back on when I actually want heat.
That's not good to hear but it's better shutting it down than having you melt down due to heat. :-)
Well, I wouldn't melt, it would just do a double whammy to the electric bill. I used to have everything in the basement, so that worked out well, but my new place this year has no basement.
I kicked the GTX260 back online this morning.
Doesn't the 260 produce more anyway? I don't remember it's production...
Yes, about 2.5x as much. That's why I'll be running it instead of the 4870, since I have to pick just one.
Moar folding!

Pretty kewl folding farm
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/fol...l#xtor=RSS-181
Hey guys, what do i have to delete to refresh the client? I stopped crunching on the GPU for a few weeks and when i fired it back up i get the "unstable yada yada" crash.
Delete all the corexx.exe files or try installing it fresh by deleting the entire folder and re-downloading the client of your choice.
I'm back..... :D
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...hp?s=&u=187109
Sweet!
Now to get everyone else on the same wake up call!
I agree. Seems most everyone that used to be in here when I was originally here has up and gone. I haven't seen most even post anymore :(
I want to know what kind of upgrades Angra did recently however! over 2 million PPD
I am still lurking and fired up a client for a slice or sliver of the daily pie :)
I had to shut off for a bit again. Got too warm in here and the power bill was a little scary looking between the card and the AC running more. But once it cools down again I'll fire her back up.
Turned in my first WU for a few years :P Hope what's left of us here are all still well. Got my work machine folding (stock i5 3.1Ghz) and maybe my Q6600 next week, if I can park it out of the way in the comms room or under my desk somewhere around here.
Got a bundle of ATi 5450 cards on the shelf, presumably crap for folding? Started one on my card and it predicted 9 days to complete oO
SUP!
Glad to see you pop back in.
yea, the 5000 series is a little dated - not sure they can run the newest WUs. if you want to check, enable beta WU's for the GPU slot(s) "client-type" = "beta"Quote:
Started one on my card and it predicted 9 days to complete oO
then look for "core 17" WUs. if you get them, you should get decent points - these are the first GPU specific cores that include bonus points. my 680 GPUs get about 95k ppd for a 2k base point WU that takes about 3 hours to fold. granted, a 5000 series won't match that, but it might still make decent points (?) note: there might be 2 types of cores 17 - one takes (i think) 14 hours, not sure off the top of my head though...
dumb question: why did you post this in a yr old harrassment thread? :P
Hey Sparky & bds :)
I can't believe the PPD numbers these days, I think I hit 7k ppd in the old days running about 10 boxes :D Might give up on the AMD cards then, not sure which WU it picked up but a 9 day turn around doesn't sound right! I did have an 8800GTS somewhere but not sure what happened to that, might have a search this weekend, could go well in my Q6600.
Bumped this old thread as it didn't seem worth making a new one, and this was where the banter used to take place :D Gotta say XS seems kinda quiet, not just the F@H section either!
your not wrong, unfortunately. me and gimpy usually have some back-and-forth going, but even that's tapered off a bit lately. I would love to see more activity going on!! it's good to have another folder taking up the cause :)Quote:
Gotta say XS seems kinda quiet, not just the F@H section either!
^_^ just been super busy lately.
Well, this IS the ***OFFICIAL*** harassment thread that isn't going anywhere, so that's what this is for :D
Could someone harass this mold out of my life so I can keep folding on a normal schedule? Anyone? lol
I'm still battling this nightmare 30+ days later.
ouch - I thought you moved out of that house? or are we talking about persistent health issues? if that's the case, i'll put in a word with the big Guy upstairs :) I hope everything works out for you!
Seems like GPU folding kicks out the points... I really must get my head around this. Last time I folded GPU points, the client was in beta iirc, and I was using an old Ati X1900Gt (which died in the process!) :D
So I got the machine with the Q6600 in, and dual PCIe slots, and a ton of these old Ati 5xxx series cards - can I run 2x dedicated GPU clients on this? Is there a seperate GPU client available? I need instructions that a chimp wearing a fez could understand, and I'm not finding that on F@H site at the moment :P
Don't want to scrub along at 1.5k ppd forever, got some old names ahead of me (Windforce/hipno) and I want to kick their arses while their not here to defend themselves - yes that's true English honour :D
Just sold a few firewalls that a client was throwing away for 250$ each :D so hopefully my new pc will be built in the near future.
I did. Everything is out, but mold spores adhere to everything. Despite cleaning, you become more sensitive as time progresses with exposure. I ordered a fogger, so we'll see if unactivated chlorine dioxide does the trick. I'll activate the stuff if I have to, but I'd rather not for health reasons.
I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. :D
that's good to know - I sincerely hope everything turns out OK!! good luck!!Quote:
I still have a few tricks up my sleeve.
Pretty sure you only need one client for it. It is quite a bit better developed now than it was way back when. I remember having to fiddle with a billion flags and stuff to get it working right... And even then having issues making it stay working :confused2
BTW I fired up my GTS250 again, but only from about 5 PM to 9 AM when I'm not at the office needing my PC. With the client running it makes it nearly impossible to use the PC.
Just noticed im still hanging on to 15th :D
0,0 time to begin planning another setup of client machines
Heh I don't think I'll be much of a threat.
hehe beep beep <waves as he passes>
Hey look, activity! :D
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...hp?s=&u=187109
Wow. Not bad for a GTS250 running only 15 hours.
Well, I'll be crunching here until GPUgrid gets their apps capable of running GK110. Currently at almost 500k PPD.
Don't know where that places me, but would rather be here than Einstein@home atm. :D
