Hi, I am new to the R3E as my EVGA Classy E770 died and EVGA did not have them in stock for a replacement. I am looking to see what the quirks are with this board w/o having to spend 8-10 hours reading 4200++ posts. Can anyone provide a starting template for volts and settings? I have a really good batch 980X that was 3D stable above 5ghz. I am hoping that this board can do better than the E770.
What's the best BIOS - 0095, 0096, or 1203? I am looking for people who've actually tried this board and like it....not just the Asus haters and other unfounded opinions.
im using 1203 with no problems and the re 3 seems a good board
I am a competitive bencher so I need stable for 8 minutes at a time.
Looking to get 5.1ghz 3D stable....any ideas? Anyone get there yet? I have great watercooling aided by cold ourside air ducted over the rads.
With the E770 my boot up cpu temps on a cold night were in the -2c to -6C range.
I'm running 3DMark Advantage on my system and the CPU clock is not reporting correctly - see below.
Has anyone else seen this? I ran a performance trace during the CPU test and found that 3DMark is not even stressing the cores or threads.
Weird....
i'm using 1203 right now... seems alright but still having trouble hitting 2000mhz stable on 6 sticks of memory
i was able to get as close as just over 10gigs registering out of 12 but i really don't feel safe doing over 1.78v to ram. i use Dominator GT's in mine and i think with... PC chips? i can't remember off the top of my head. they also have the niffty corsair dual fan cooler ontop so it's not heat i'm worried about, just over voltage.
for right now my daily setup is just a simple 4ghz @ 1.28v and standard (133x30) and with memory at stock 1866mhz but with 7-9-7-24-72 N2 timings.
the highest i've gotten so far is 4.5ghz @ 1.44v and 1900mhz on memory with the same timings and that's been with many different bios versions.
A couple of quick ram tests I did to find my minimum stable voltage at Cas 7 and Cas 6

They have room for much more, but with 6 sticks they max out at around 1850 Mhz. I've never tried testing my PC with just 3 dimms installed, I cant really be bothered because installing one module requires removing my CPU cooler.
ok no news for a while but heres one from last year asus claims its the best for ln2 ?!?!?!?!
1201
its from 11/2010
no change log
something is wrong...

There is a 1206 that someone was posting in here a month ago saying it should be out shortly and wouldn't share. Never saw it released, 1201 is new to me.
For people like me who dont want to get rid of this motherboard but want a better CPU, the I7 970 has been cut in price to £450.
But its still a little too much, for £400 I can get a 2600k and a decent mobo, but I believe the 970 will drop in price even more after Ivy Bridge is released. Once its £300 or less, I get a new CPU :)
