ASUS P5B-Deluxe; Problems & Fixes

Hmmm... ive got the PCI-E problem too, very wierd i solved it a few times, but eachtime a reboot sets it back to 1x :(
NB voltage and stuff doenst have inpact, changing memory divider helps, but ofcourse than i wont be able to run 1:1 anymore :(

Tried to lower FSB from 425(3,4ghz) to 400, helped as soon i rebooted.
I have the newest bios version and is orthos stable.

My specs:

Core 2 Duo E6750@ 3,2ghz 8x400
Asus P5B deluxe
2xOCZ Gold PC7200(900mhz)
Sparkle 8800GTS 640mb
Zalman HP-600
Any1 got an idea whats goin on?

Also my sound is messing around, im hooked up with SPdif om me Logitech Z5400, but sometimes it fades and lower volume.
When i open a new site @ IE sound is stuck also... :/
IF i check winamp i see that the hardware doesnt streams, like normal onboards have 32 voices, but i see none here! :/

Auto voltage for NB.. The northbridge poped in smoke.. that smell spread in the whole room.. and that was it.. My advice is to avoid using auto settings .. especially when it come to voltage.

I see a lot of people running 1.65V - and thats the max isn't it ? Could Auto have taken it higher ?

I'm not sure but after what happened with that mobo.. I belive the autov does pump more than the max 1.65v into it.. I think it kept on pumping volts in it as I was rising the fsb in windows.. perhaps someone with more knowledge can bring some light on this :)

I tried all the drivers I could find but gave up on trying to get the on board sound working properly on my P5B Deluxe. I was looking for S/PDIF out but the problems included the volume going up and down at random, missing bass and static noise similar to a $5 radio. Very disappointing but it overclocks like crazy so I threw in a sound card and saved my sanity for more important things.

I know AUTO for core voltage on the P5B is scary. AUTO is giving me 1.576 volts for the core at idle which is right at the Intel maximum of 1.55 volts under load.

Here's a beta version of CPUz that seems to finally support the correct display of core voltage.

I think you should have said: dont use auto WHEN YOU OC... cause if you dont OC there is 0.00000001 chance it will burn on its own on auto settings.

hey guys, thought i might ask a quick question...

has anyone with a p5b-d had problems with usb printers? I have a Canon iP5300 and a lasershot lbp1200, and both have major issues on my rig...

ever since installing either of these printers, startup takes almost forever, and i keep getting the 'device not recognised' error :(

clean installs of xp haven't fixed this issue either, and both printers work fine on an old pII-300 w/ albatron mobo (go figure)


just wondering if any other p5b-d owners have had any issues with usb printers - i hate this mobo! :mad: :p:

I have 3 computers on my home network.

XP Home unit on p5b, 6600 processor, 2 gig memory…3 sata drives.

XP Pro is on older p4.

XP Home on another newer system.

Transfer a 200Meg file from any system 11MB second on average, going either way from any system.
EXCEPT the new computer, p5b motherboard.
It will send files at a constant 10MB or higher.

BUT receiving files, I have tried the other computers and even brought home a new laptop from work I can never get over 2MB speed and it is bouncing from 50kb to 2MB all over the place.
All other systems are a constant max with no fluctuations.

I updated the marvel yukon gigabit to the latest drivers on the asus site, made sure and disabled the wireless in the bios.
Tried 2 different routers and new cables...nothing helps.

I am at a complete loss of the crap speeds I am getting trying to send files to this computer.
And since I can send the same files to other computers at max speed and the other computers can all share files fine it has to be the P5B that is the problem.


any ideas, setup suggestions or help is welcome...even a flame if it will help :)

ps I am using an older bios, since I am rock solid stable at 350fsb ( have had it over 400 but TOOO HOT ) what is best newer stable bios ?
Would I see faster video conversions with a Q6600...will this board make the most of it ?

Has anyone yet worked out the precise circumstances in which this board reverts to the 1x PCI-E link width instead of the normal 16x?

I have had this problem intermittently since I bought this board and have had it with all bios revisions up to 1215 inclusive.

currently running a x6800 @ 400x9 with some Cellshock @ 1:1 4-4-4-12
but spent an hour fiddling to get rid of the damned 1x mode >.<

Any ideas folks?

Since I fixed by NB voltage at 1.45 and my PCIE at 96 on my E6400 (about 2 months ago) this has not happened again. Seems to be the combination of these 2 values. Don't know if this helps?

I swear, the 1x PCI-E link issue on this board should be a sticky in itself. I think out of the 4219 posts, a 1/4 of them must be from this issue alone. This has always been an issue and it looks like it always will be. :shakes:

One method that works: ~Re-boot and go into the bios, - load setup defaults - reboot and after windows opens, but first try after boot go directly into the bios, set up your custom setting and re-boot. It will be fixed.

hey. I have a major issue here.
I set up my new computer and installed windows XP by booting XP-disc from my dvdrom. for a while it was ok. after restarting the PC and booting into windows i saw that i had lost my dvd drive from my computer. when booting I also see that the bios has recognised my dvd drive. but when booting from the drive the "_" jeeps blinking and then the computer has crashed. booting from an empty dvd drive it goes well through to another booting device figuring that the dvd drive is empty.

I have tried:
* new data cables
* another dvdrom
* all the different combinations between AHCI/IDE modes and the dvd drive at SLAVE/MASTER/CS.
* CMOS reset
* boot from dvd without the hard drive attached.

what is wrong here? since I have unplugged the hard drive with winXP on it the problem cant be XP-related. the computer just crashes when booting from a bootable disc.

the board is ofcourse Asus P5B Deluxe with the latest bios 1215

I just got my Q6600 G0 today and using bios 1215 my P5B Dlx posts as : 4050MHz ( 450*9 ) when I really have the system @ 450*8 witch is 3600MHz !!!

Anyone with this problem ?

With my E6400 it didn't have any problem detecting the multiplier change.

Is there any news bios after 1215 ? And is the P5B Dlx goods for the Quad's ??

I think the 1215 will be the last one. What does CPU report in CPU-Z? If it is just a posting error, well. How is the performance? nice OC!

Any solution to the PCI-E mode problem, this is really getting me pissed off, it reverts to x1 from x16 no matter what I do.

It should not revert, unless you make a bios.

The fix:
Go into the bios and load setup defaults and re-boot (in you have a RAID, change that setting only). Go into windows and check that it is 16x. Re-boot, go into the bios and load your custom settings. load windows and re-check that it is 16 times. If not, do it again.

I have had that problem many times. But, after I loaded that last bios, I have not went in there and have not had the problem since. I am very sure it happens after you go into the bios.

I hope 1215 isn't the last, since it's a beta.

PCI-E 1x Link Width issue :

Happens when OC-ed. After restart link width is automaticlly set to 1x instead of 16x, which causes significant performace downgrade.  Reason unknown. Happens mostly with ATI GPU cards. Possibly a BIOS protection measure, preventing percieved possible damage to GPU or motherboard, or a BIOS problem with proper video card  initaition.

 

Symptoms : 

PCI-E Link Width switches from 16x to 1x after a restart.

 

Solution :

- Unplug PSU, wait a few seconds, replug PSU.

- Unplug PSU, reset CMOS, replug PSU, renter all BIOS settings, save, shutdown, power on.

- Combining slightly lowering or uping voltages of PCI-E, Vmch, VCore and FSB can usually fix it. Also try

  disabling ASUS C.G.I and PEG Force 1x., and changing values to PEG Link Mode.

- Flash to BIOS to previous BIOS version, then reflash to current.

It's a post error, because in CPU-Z it is correct ! 450x8=3600 :D

1215 is oficial ! And I hope too that it is not the last bios for this wonderfull mobo ;)

Glad i found this thread. Ima going to flash my bios to 1215 and install my Q6600 G0 L724A, which i just received :), later today. Will post here what gives!

Changing the NB voltage did the trick for me at the moment, but this is annoying nevertheless.

Well for those who thought 1215 was going to be the last bios for the P5B Deluxe/Wifi they were wrong:

New beta bios 1216 dated 16/08/07
