The SB Voltage is it also at 1.05V using Auto int he BIOS?
Try with more CPU and NB Clock Skew. The NB Voltage and FSB Termination Voltage looks to high. :shrug:
To give you an idea. The screenshot with my Q9650@4.5GHz and DRR 1201MHz with tRD 7 is with CPU Clock Skew Delay 600ps and NB Clock Skew Delay 500ps. So lower the voltages and try to boot or run MemTest86+ Test 5 with less voltage and try to find out what values you need for clock skew.
Nothing bad with using high MCH voltage if you can keep it cold, but I hope you are not using FSB Termination Voltage at 1.52 for normal use.
A stable Boot / with prime with similar settings is at 438x9

Just my luck, this morning i did a quick test before goto work, Then 1h later had some liquid on the floor, for no apparent reason something was leaking from here.

Refresh Period should only be changed when it's stable
These are the memory timings from the Gigabyte GA-P45-UD3P and when you also use MCH Read ODT 11T you can use the lowest possible stable NB Voltage.
I'm currently running a test to find out if it's really stable with MCH Read ODT 11T. If all goes well and it turns out to be stable then I'm going to have to contact ASUS to add it to the BIOS. ;)
Sounds like yet another round of long delays in getting ASUS to even release a BETA BIOS with the ODT Timing.....go for it A-Grey

As you can see it's stable with 0.04V lower NB Voltage and MCH Read ODT 11T and it isn't with 8T. Stability improves a lot with longer MCH Read ODT timing at high FSB and we're going to need it if we want to try to have it stable running with FSB 500MHz.
There's also DRAM Read ODT and DRAM Write ODT but I didn't test it yet if it's better with a different value.
All these timings should be added to the BIOS so we can choose the value that we need to have it stable running. :yepp:

I have asked ASUS if they can implement a way of altering the MCH Read OTD in the Rampage Extreme BIOS, but sadly they ignored my request :(
I'm getting the impression that all BIOS development for X38/X48 has halted and ASUS are only working on P/G41/43 based boards on the 775 platform.

No, it doesn't have any impact on performance. The only little performance loss is because of using the more relaxed ASUS Extreme memory timings to have it 24/7 stable.Quote:

Anyway thank you for your extensive research into the MCH Read ODT, I have applied a similar fix to my Rampage Extreme.
The memory address is the same FED14290, but the value you have to change is slightly different, I have to change 778 to 77B, I will post this in the Rampage Extreme thread and credit you for the discovery.

It shouldn't be to hard or to much work for ASUS to add it in the BIOS. They don't have to do any research or testing. Just add those timings to the BIOS and mail it to me. :D
It's MCH Read ODT at 8T that is limiting your overclock. Higher temperature needs a longer time to keep it stable.Quote:

I also tried with changing DRAM Read and Write ODT but that's a bit difficult because I can't test it with MemTest86+. To do that I really need those timings in the BIOS.
I think that an MCH Read ODT setting in the BIOS from 8T to 16T should be more than enough to fix all our stability problems. I thing that running the board with 8 GB memory can benefit a lot from a longer DRAM ODT Timing.

It would be nice if ASUS could add MCH ODT, DRAM ODT and DRAM Refresh TREF to a BIOS shortly for both the Rampage Formula and Rampage Extreme.
This BIOS update would not only let users squeeze more performance and stability out of their PC's, but it would also give the ROG brand a good reputation for longerm support and listening to the userbase.
Please do continue to push ASUS for this ;)

We bought these boards to do some serious overclocking/tweaking and paid a premium price for it so the least we can expect is that it has all the overclocking/tweaking features in the BIOS. ;)
I'll give them some time to give me an answer on my request but I won't leave it like it is because these are for sure the features that are going to give us the performance boost to do the same or maybe better than the P45 boards. :D
Today ill send back to intel my "faulty" q9650 (one sensor stuck and random system crashes). Lets hope ill get a good one :)
