This was now added to the A8R-MVP review.Quote:
*UPDATE: After further testing we have concluded that the A8R-MVP handles 1T timings only to about 260-265. Above 260-265 you will need 2T timings to reach 325 or so clock frequency. We ran into a wall at 260 and apparently the BIOS reset. The default is 2T and we didn't catch the Command Rate reset. This board uses very aggressive timings, and the 2T memory bandwidth was so fast we did not realize the board was actually running at 2T. This does not change the fact that 325 at 2T is an outstanding overclock, but it is achieved at 2T timings, and not at 1T as originally reported.
I was initially angry since me and many others informed him of this problem and he didn't believe us.
good thing he mentioned his error in the new rd580 asus board review.
and i'm glad he made the corrections to the original review as well. good job wes!
Does anyone have any information for a Vdimm mod for this board yet? The booster wont always work in this board.
Anyone?
What Memory can run at 240mhz on this board? my g.skill DDR500 will not run at 240 and 1t command rate with the 166 divider.
So only a few people have had the ethernet dropping issue?
For me, i've been fighting with it ever since i got the mobo
I've used the Windows update driver, & that results in disconnects whenever i do anything requiring any heavier amount of bandwidth.
So i switched back to the driver from the CD, & while it doesn't connection as often, it still happens like once a day, usually when dling something, streaming music over the network, or when signing into Xfire or MSN
I guess i'm gonna have to buy an ethernet card, since RMAing is likely to get me the same mobo with the same issue i think...
N7 bad luck man, definitely get the nic card.
I had some issues also with bad dling.
file was always corrupted.
I experienced the connection dropping issue early one, with the drivers off the CD, and could get rid of it by upgrading to the drivers available at marvell.com, v8.48.1.3. (mind you, my home LAN is only 100 MBit/s, so it might still be there if you're using the full GbE)Quote:

What I find even more aggrevating are the serious sound issues I'm experiencing with my Audigy 2 ZS, a card I used fine for over a year in my old PC. (i875P-based) I get distorted sound all the time, most of the time, I can't even Alt-L to the Login-Screen without the logoff sound being hacked to pieces accompanied with intermittend noise.
Now, I know I can reduce these issues by disabling NCQ on my HDD (Maxtor 6L300S0) and/or not running SpeedFan, but shoudln't it simply work without jumping through such hoops and losing functionality in the process? To me it seems that somehow, somewhere in the I/O chain of this board, a queue or arbiter isn't up to my usage pattern and keeps the data from reaching its target in time.
Frankly, this has been my first experience with an AMD-based system in a long time, and I can't wait to go Conroe ...
Hi,
If you guys wanna see isssues with the board so far check out here A8R32-mvp

ITS NOT AMD !!! its this board. I had no problems with my DFi board. But with tis one i have blue screens all the time. Same sound issues as u with my X-FI. But i don't have them all the time. And i have more bug's / instablility's. So cant wait to get a DFI RD580 of ABiT. Not More Asus and u will be fine with AMD. Its not and AMD releated problem thats for sure. Had manny boards but none of them where this bad.Quote:

And Abit? Right! As if the AT8 had a right bios...Quote:

Can anyone of you give me the max bandwidth you get in memtest with 2x512mb of ram on the A8R? ~2400mb/s seems to be a wall for me.
Right now, I'm at 10x280 1:1 (2.5-4-3-7 2T) and bandwidth is 2378 mb/s.
I tried with the 166mhz (2.5-3-3-7 1T) memory divider and I got 2430 mb/s but Super Pi 32M doesn't even pass one loop.
Anyone here experiencing a problem in crossfire mode?
Whenever I try to play a game and use both Powercolor x1800s I get a sort of
static, which resembles what you get with a bad TV signal. Its a chequered
pattern of green squares. This problem disappears if i disable crossfire.
Spec
4x Mushkin Redline 512
Powercolor Master and Slave X1800XT
Asus A8R-MVP
opty 170 0541RPMW 2.5 GHz with 1.4 v.
700w PSU EPSILON FX700
Anyone tried this BIOS (0503)?
i tried it earlier today....it's terrible.
Has anyone else probs with BF2 / Special Forces? My only problem so far with this new mobo is that, everytime the server changes map (any server at all) my rig does load the map, but when it should start, it just say that: The is problem with your network connection, please check something... Only solution is to boot my rig.
I'm probably only one, who uses cat 6.4, 404 bios, oc'd stable and no lag at all, only thing is that connection situation :( Earilier I had problem with lag of mouse and keyboard.
My whole rig is:
Opteron 148 @ 11x260 1.45v
G.Skill HZ 2x1gb 260mhz 3-4-4-8
X1800XL sapphire
A8R32-...
P.S. Tried both bioses (came with 0311, now 0404)
Good mobo I must say, only thing is the connection prob. I did try earlier 0311 bios and different network drivers, but without no help at all.
Sorry about my baad english, hope you understand :(
Edit: Added bios version.
Edit2: Is there lot of difference between -MVP and -MVP Deluxe? My board is that deluxe rev1.xx.
Hi guys... Okay - I am in desperate need here to make this A8R32MVP DLX work with my ATI built X1900XTX and X1900XT Mastercard.
First of - I have several issues but some of them are taken care of.
1st - New Asus Boards dont seem to like my OCZ Powerstreams 520W PSU's - Solution: Swapped it out for a BeQuiet 600W (All I could get, quick... lol)
2nd - Fan on the slave card won't throttle - Solution: Install drivers while both cards are installed. Second card will now throttle once the drivers have been loaded.
Problems I am still dealing with:
1. I do not get a video signal from the adapter cable...
2. Catalyst Control Center will not allow me to enable Crossfire (It sais to connect the cable, which of course doesn't give me a signal)
3. The screen will sort of 'lock- up'/'go blank' after a few minutes of use, with two cards installed. (The locking up is like a single color all over the screen. The computer will still run and continue downloads, benchmarks, etc... Just the screen is skrewed up....) A reboot fixes that issue.
CPU is a AMD Toledo (E6 Stepping). 2x 512 el cheapo Infineon PC3200 Memorym, which is listed in the manuals QVL list (Though it really doesnt matter what I put in there... BH5, BH6, TCCD, etc...) Bios was updated to 404.
Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!
Quick update - My Crossfire connector cable is now working and I am getting a signal on my monitor. Furthermore, I can now enable Crossfire in the Catalyst Control Panel... :)
However, I still get this screen lock- up issue, which happens after 5 minutes max. and requires a re-boot.
I have this issue with and w/o drivers being installed....
Any ideas???
I flashed my board to the 0503 bios and it is complete trash. It won't overclock (Resets every time I boot). I was able to do 311 HTT with the previous bioses so I would like to flash back, however, when I use Afudos in dos to flash the bios like normal, it won't work. I get an error stating the bios is too old or something. Does anyone have an idea how to flash to a previous bios after updating to 0503? Thanks,
Joel
Afudos won't let you flash to an older bios, you have to make a floppy or a bootable CD.Quote:

...and by the way, I have the same problem. :D
My bad, i overlooked it and thouhgt he was refering to the win xp flash tool, you'll be able to flash to an older bios using /f don't know if Afudos will take it tho'Quote:

So it's a no-go in Windows, in DOS and with Alt+F2! :help:
I finally was able to rid myself of the terrible bios that is 0503. I used an older version of Afudos that I found on the Asus website here:
http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/AFUDOS207.zip
I won't be responsible if it fubars anyone's system, but it helped me flash back to 0402.
