Hi GS technician,

250 @ 2.66v successfully passed memtest86+ (5h00+ ,6 full pass) but I have had to bump it up to 2.7v for 3d05 .

3d05 succeed @ 255 too (2.73v) but failled @ 260 (even with 2.92v) , I probably hit the wall there.

I will continue my test ( now 255 under memtest86+ full standard test @ 2.73v , 13 full pass during 8h00 test safe) .

For my trouble with memtest in windows, I think you put your finger on, quick test doesn't show me same early errors as before but need deeper test ; I'm confident as 3d05 have succed at those timing now, so it's promising , right ?

So far so good , as I was expected for ~245mhz and I hit over 250.

GS technician thank you very much for your input.

Actually, now I'm finding that Everest reports better latency in cas2.5 than cas2 AND cas3. Less bandwidth (and that's what this forum is for!) but would it be better to use cas2.5 for the lower latency?

My sticks top out at 260 @ 3-3-3-6.. will try to loosen timings a little bit and see if it helps. :(

i was thinking of getting these 2GBZX sticks or the 2GBHS
the price is almost the same...but which sticks do you guys think will be more likely to oc well, 2gbhs or 2gbzx?

I just passed SuperPi 32MB @ 270.1 MHz Frequency 3-3-2-5, 2.8V

2.7 GHz (300HTT (9/10 Divider) x 9 Multiplier)

The HS is low-binned HZ, certainly no chance of good overclock.

Personally I still don't understand why people buy the ZX, not the HZ. The HZ is guaranteed 250 MHz.

While the people with excessive good luck manage to get ZX that does even better that is rare, the average ZX is between its spec and the HZ spec.

Don't know about all that stuff you've posted, but I do know that i bought 2 sets and they both do 262-263.

Be it cpu or memory, I've found the hardware that I've bought on the lower end most of the time clocks as good or better then the binned higher priced stuff.

hmmm...difficult choice cuz the price difference is so small and i suck at making decisions
where i am (i am in taiwan of all places lol), i can get:
2gbhz for 254 us$
2gbhs for 215 us$
2gbzx for 221 us$
should i gamble and try zx (or even hs) or go for the garantueed hz for some more money, what would u guys go for at these prices?

Oooh, I could sell you my ZX for $210 shipped. It does 260mhz but I'm not sure if I wanna get rid of it already.

Just test both sets of zx and picked out to strongest 2. Here's my results:

I know alot of the old time overclockers like myself still have the mentality of getting the cheapest parts and gettting them to rival the best parts. In the beginning(for me) the cheapest CPU that could be bought was probably $250 and up, where a CPU with less then 30Mhz more was twice that much. Old habits die hard. Sure it's fun to read about, that's why I am here, but the avg enthusiast can't afford that. I am much more impressed when the community comes together and we find the right combination of parts for a $1000 system to beat or stay on par with a $3000 system. Obviously this Gskill example is only $30 but it's the principal. Some people can't dig up the $300 for Ballistix, or the $250 for the HZ, so here they are doing their XtremeSystem thing with these Gskills(and these RAM IMO are quite the deal if you have a good set). If they get lucky they saved enough to pay their electricity bill.

I feel empathy for those that don't get the sticks to do what they hoped for, but I don't feel sorry for them. Which I think is what is getting to you, but for you to ask why people do it???....perspective Martin, perspective.

The HZ is rated 3-4-4-8 at DDR500 also, I see people on here listing better timings with thier ZX at DDR500. So why not go with the better timings at lower price? Besides, newegg lists the HS for $229 while the ZX is $212. Not much difference in price but the potential for better timings at a lower price.

I keep inching up slowly, 263.5 MHz on the memory........:) DDR527 @ 2.7v @ 3-3-2-5-1T

I just got mine running, 2.9v and all the bios settings in the first post on my dfi nf4 with 6-23 bios other than async and preamble which need to be higher for my opty and it kept locking. I set 3-3-3-5 and I'm mem testing 255 now. Meh...

Hi,

This is really strange , I'm confuse here.

I succeed

1°) memtest86+ @ 255 3/3/2/5/1T ~ 2.73v ,

2°) the long memory test (~3h00) of S&M (250 ~2.7v),

3°) all 3d0x series (250 ~2.73v),

4°) playing ~2h00 with need for speed - Most Wanted (250 @ 2.7v)

I have tried 2 A64 3200+ E3 and both gave me the same result ,

I've tried with divider 150/166/183 and in 1/1 .

I still can't pass more than a 4M Spi ? (tried @ 250) 8M failled, I have played with the MAL and the RPT but have not yet found the good setting , I'm sure it must be a ram setting but what way to find it , I'm not an expert with all these ram settings.

Yesterday , after setting the ram in bios @ 3/3/2/5/1t (all the rest @ auto) I have passed 3d05 and 03 @ 250 with only 2.62v but not Spi 8M ??? (I had need before 2.7v to pass 3d05, so strange).

Somebody know if there is a new bios for the Expert serie of DFI Sli-dr that's supposed to be better with the new 2gb ram kit ?

PS : :woot:, I found the origine of my trouble : crapy NVIDIA IDE drivers !!!! :slapass:

I have discovered it when my dvd rom didn't refresh after loading a new cd , after coming back to the microsoft ide driver all have been working fine, I have completed an 8M Spi and 32M right now @ 250 with only 2.61v(smartguardian report).

At all of you who are running with NF4 , are you using the NVIDIA IDE driver ?

that is a nice found, i believe i am using nvidia IDE driver, i should change to other dirver too. are you using MS' dirver now?

I am using the nVidia IDE drivers (6.70) with no issues, but it's an Ultra-D, not an Expert....

Yes , now I'm using the microsoft ide driver and all is fine ( 260 in the nose for 32M Spi, max screen @ 265 but no bench)

I have first trying to install windows (sp1 full fix updated) with the 6.70 but get error so choose the one that are on my dfi cd driver ,the 6.66 ; as I come from kt600 , I didn't know that the Nvidia ide driver can cause some trouble ( cd-rw and dvd-rw not recognized or impossible to burn) , so I have allowed to install them when pop up ask it to me, my bad.
