Who'd you go through? I got mine through costcentral overnight, shipped same day I ordered and showed up next day. They're running out of W3520s though, I would've done newegg but they were out when I tried (bout a week ago).

They sent an email today saying sorry for the delay, that the supplier did not ship the order like they were suppose to, that they would refund my full shipping charge, or if I wanted, cancel the order and give a full refund. That is fair enough for me.
I know a couple people from XS that have ordered from them with no issues, so it is best to give them the benefit of the doubt.
EDIT: Well I guess I wont be getting a xeon, they say they no longer have this batch in stock. It would be a random batch so I asked for a refund.
Hey Sam, I know earlier you posted that you were running the Noctua NHD14 in a push/push config but I see in your sig that your now running it in a push/pull/push config. Are you able to run your new config with both the nb heatpipe assy and 6gb (2x3) and would tall ram sinks block the use of the first fan? Would it still work at all with my Kingston Hyper-X memory? I am asking because I moved to the Mega Shadow a couple weeks ago and pending more reviews on the Venomous-X I was thinking about switching to either the VX or the NHD14. If its not a huge hassle could you post a pic of your set-up? Thx man

Thanks... you're right. I definitely freaked out there... installed it without the super cooler and have hit 4GHz right off the bat. Now I just gotta find the right voltages to stay under 72C.
I'm getting 74C on Linx (max mem) for the hottest core with a Venomous X and San Ace H101 (full speed) setup. Here are my settings:
211x19 = 4GHz and HT on
ioh and ich - 1.2v
vdimm - 1.6v
cpu pll - 1.88v
qpi/uncore - 1.34v
vcore - 1.275v / 1.28v actual
2:8 RAM, uncore 16x, qpi 36x
Is 74/73/71/70 (max temps for all cores) a bad temp? Forgive my noobishness... I've never used Intel before and am following a guide's quick and dirty settings.
Dont know if anyone tried it before me, but tomorrow ill test my bord under liquid nitrogen, with my W3540 and 5770 both cooled by LN2. so far i've experienced a 'wall' at 238, lets see if -115 degrees celcius can fix some troubles, i want to get higher to get the max out of my cpu. 5450mhz +- isnt enough for 32M / 1M / cpu-z :)
obviously ill report back, hopefully no strange coldboot problems now!
Hey there.
I've mounted the Noctua NHD14 blowing towards the back of the case using, NB-cooler, 2 fans, and 6 GB low-profile RAM, and it is working fine .
The first push-fan#1 will block the tall RAM in this orientation, but will just work without it.
In this orientation, you can't install a push-fan#1 with tall RAM at all. It will block even 3x2GB tall RAM . I can't use a pull-fan#3 either, at least not without moving the rear exhaust fan to the outside of the case. Fan#3 comes too close to the rear exhaust fan. (I didn't try this because I didn't need fan#3) .
You need low-profile RAM with this cooler, otherwise you will probably end up with just one fan in the middle. I didn't try the other orientation, but i think you will get in trouble with NB-cooler and push-fan#1, and the same problem.
You see, this thingy is HUGE. You need low-profile RAM (or change the cooler?) to sneak the RAM under it (at least for this orientation that I have tired), but the other orientation seams to have its own challenges with 2 fans.
Thx for the reply, I think I will attempt to do an impromptu center pressure mod on the backplane of my Mega Shadow to get some better temps for now, my temps aren't to high but I would like to get 4.5 24/7 out of this chip and I am fairly close. I think a few c drop may just do the trick. I have an old ss vapochill but I do not want the hassle of condensation (been down that road) + I have no clam shell/socket adapter for 1366 and I have alot of water cooling gear but I think I would prefer a worry free solution. I'll let you know how my mod works out.
Yeah, you really need that little extra (both mentally and practically) to run @4.5GHZ on air 24/7. I've been really enjoying it :D
Well, I gained 1-2 degree's by adding a bit to the top of the hold down brace of my Mega Shadow but I think I may remove it this weekend and try to use the 775 spacer on the backplate that comes with the Mega Shadow as a more permanent and possibly better solution. Once again I will update on my results ...... I am temped to just dump my 920 and pick up a W3520 but I will hold off for now :)
How do you make sure that the socket-pins are doing OK under the extra pressure?
No reason to dump your 920, @4.2GHZ for 24/7 is not too shabby. Getting the most out of what you got is the fun part, but if have to, wait for 930 before deciding.
As long as I keep the added pressure even I think I will be ok, the VX according to spec applies 70lb I am added a very minimal amount to the center brace and will be careful when I add the 775 rear backplate adapter .... if I overdo it I guess I need another ud7. With great reward comes great risk or so I have heard so I will keep tinkering until it breaks or something new comes out. I am just having a good time.
:D
That's what it's all about. Rock on!
Hey Sam_oslo,
Do you think the D14 mounts properly to where it wouldn't mess with the seating of the CPU for 12GB of RAM usage? I know this was brought up earlier, where someone's heatsink was causing the plastic to bow or something and the CPU would get moved just a tiny bit, but that would mess up using 12GB of RAM.
I really want to get the D14 now, seeing you hit 4.5 HT On for 24/7 is inspirational  Plus my VX can't use Indigo Xtreme since you can still twist it side to side even with max pressure :shakes: So I figure I will be very happy :D if I get a D14 and install with Indigo Xtreme, and I will be very very happy :cheer2: if I can use 12GB RAM with it too. And ya it's low profile RAM (ripjaws) that Noctua says will work.
If you want to use 6x2GB with Noctua NHD14, then you have to make sure the RAM is low enough to sneak under the cooler itself.
Removing the first fan can help you to get away with 3x2GB tall RAM, but won't help with 6x2GB. Because while the second RAM slot gets blocked by then fan, the first RAM slot gets blocked by the cooler itself.
I don't know how tall the ripjaws is, but my Corsair XMS3 (EDIT: CMX6GX3M3C1600C7 link-egg if you want to check closer ) is low enough, with good margin, for 6x2GB. :)
If you need a few degree, then Noctua NHD14 could give the little extra to hit @4.5GHZ ;)
I'm already working on 4.6GHZ for 24/7. It is going to be a big challenge to keep this cool&quiet, but getting it stable is not a little one, either.
I'm not sure if this wil work for 24/7 (yet), but it is always fun to push it to the edge, anyways.
@4.6GHZ (219x21) 1.36v SuperPi32M ... and work in progress ..

At least trying :) , but didn't get so far to get a good assessment of load-temp yet.
I tired Vcore up to 1.36v, and VVT up to 1.36v, (and some adjustment on NB and SB voltages too) but have been getting BSOD after about 30 sec. in OCCT, Prime and LinX.
All run fine for about 30 Sec, but then suddenly something  kicks inn, almost all at the same time.
I don't think it is the Vcore, maybe i need to pump more VVT into her?
EDIT: got a sight on error ;)
"Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" came up for a fraction of the second .. .. and BSOD ..
30 sec. into the Prime-run. Still not sure know what's going on, maybe my double GPU (GTX 295) is acting again? but at least got something to go after ...
Wow, good work and luck on the 4.6, stick to it, if anyone can do it you and your chip can:yepp:
I added a bit more to my previous mod of the center hold down bracket and I think I may leave well enough alone, I am down 4c with 2 very thin washers on the lock in pins.
Wow... might be time to try it with one card you think? If it's stable at that and then you intorduce the 2nd card again and there's a problem... might be driver-related and out of your control?
Once you get it all sorted and stable (if you have the time)... it would be great and really appreciated if you could post your full MIT settings please. I know there will be others like me who will be keen to see how the best of the best gets it done (and see where they are going wrong)
I've eliminated the Vcore, and adding VVT doesn't seams to be affecting it either.
Disabling one GPU in Nvidia control panel didn't help. But I don't trust that control panel, anyways .
I'm thinking more about the display-problems. Maybe the PCIe or the driver?
I've been using PCIe=100 all the time, but went up to 104, and adding voltages didn't have any effect.
I believe you have a good point with the driver. Nvidia has been releasing crap lately.
Maybe I have to find a good driver for GTX 295 first. Anybody knows about a good one?
This is gonna get more fun that i counted on, I guess.
I know a lot have been raising their PCIe up way higher than that (215-220 iirc), but I haven't worked out whether it's in the quest to get their BCLK stable or specifically to do with getting their graphics running higher.
I can boot up with higher BCLK by raisin the PCIe, but I couldn't see much effect on 24/7 stability, yet. I have tried these:
PCIe=100 .. can boot with BCLK221 and is 24/7 stable at 19x221 too. But BCLK222 won't boot at all.
PCIe=104 .. can boot up to BCLK227 (at least, i didn't try higher), but it is not 24/7 stable, and raining the PCIe up to 115, won't get 227x19 to run 24/7stable either. At least on my setup.
Higher PCIe makes my GPU to run hotter. I didn't bench the 3D, but the GPU seams to be performing better with higher PCIe.
Suspected that might be the case = just thinkin out loud.
May be driver related after all.... someone must know what's good and what's not.
I could be wrong Sam, but I dont think 1.36v will be enough at 4.6.
Here's mine, 1.3875 in bios, 1.34vtt. I can get it to run at lower vcore, but then GFlops will also go lower.
