Guys, an important piece of information:
Gigabyte rules for the freestyle competition have been clarified:
Hardware category #1 scores for each benchmark on hwbot does count
On a seperate note, there has been some complaints/comments made that some teams have recieved hardware from Gigabyte for this competion already (unfairly giving them an advantage). This is absolutely not the case, it just so happens that several competitors have in the past recieved hardware (such as the EP45T Extreme) as part of their normal R&D/Marketing support to/from Gigabyte in their local region.
A typical example (and why i am a bit pissed about these comments) is myself who recieved the board many months ago for beta/OC testing.
Recieving a gigabyte board etc prior to the competition does not give any advantage above actually buying it yourself prior anyway....
wow competition is heating up
they really received those complains :confused:wtf
Yes, i think it was just a whinge that their own local marketting doesnt support them like others, but wrapped up under this competition as an excuse..... anyway
Right Deanzo. According to what T_M posted they have changed it to mean HOF records only, not by hardware categories...which quite honestly will be a challenge ;)
Vantage is the one exception because it's currently not point ranked @ hwbot. That is the best opportunity and will most likely mean a Vantage Performance shootout in Freestyle.
Hey Tim,
Is that HOF single and multiple cards ?
Also, and I'm just bringing this up now, so it's not an issue on the day. There has been alot of talk about "bugged" scores in 3D03 with 4870X2's. Are they still going to use that bench ?
Well, i'm little disappointed about that, change the rules 1 week before the competition is not fair IMHO , I don't even have time to buy a gigabyte x48 to try to beat HOF.
This means anybody gonna use 4870x2 ? and what'up if nobody beat HOF score ?
really need a clarification from somebody inside gigabyte, maybe HICOOKIE can tell something more clear about that.
Anybody know that to beat HOF score sometime need to bench entire night, 2 hours is nothing, even for just one benchmark .....well if anybody got 6.5g e8600 3d benchable is another story .......
Giorgio - this is coming from Gigabyte directly through me.
Have you submitted your proposed Freestyle hardware setup yet? If not you might not even be able to compete as the rules stated submission required a long time ago (for Gigabyte to review).
Yesterday i was told pretty much every freestyle setup submitted was 4870x2(s).
The rules havent been "changed", they just weren't clear and people have read it their own way.
Remember the rules did state WR.
Single card and multi-card will both count seperately.
E.g. WR single card '03, WR CF card '03.
Hope this helps?
(edit: Also the rules have a disclaimer at the bottom stating that they may be changed at any time without prior notice.)
(Edit 2: I just triple checked the rules and am a bit confused about "in each hwbot category (bench, CPU, VGA)" - i will seek further clarification ASAP)
This is awesome. This is so cool that the community has gotten to this point. I can't wait to see the event unfold. :)
i have already submitted the hardware list long time ago, and, obviusly, i didn't not choose to use 4870x2 ....
your 2nd edit is the point, besides that i was cleraly told ( till yesterday) that the freestyle competition was about hardware league as is possible to understand from "in each hwbot category (bench, CPU, VGA)" .
And if it was intended from the first time, that the freestyle was about overhall WR, why did they ask a list of hardware, I was told that the list was necesessary to be sure that nobody gonna use too hold hardware ( i.e. 9800 as vga...), and this make sense.
If the target was overhall WR, doesn't make sense to ask a list of hardware, once is stated that mobo has to be GYGABYTE and vga has to be ATI, because anybody gonna use the last generation VGA if wanna have a chance to compete. That's logic IMHO.
I submitted my hardware list long time ago ( deadline was 1st of september), and I asked clarification before submit the hardware list. With the hardware I submitted, cannot even try to beat any overall WR ......
I don't think there are a ot of people which submitted 4870x2 as VGA ...
i thought it was about HOF W.R.s hence why i decided on 4870X2
OK, just got off the phone with further clarification.
The information i was supplied yesterday was wrong.
I have edited my post above for clarity, and will repeat myself here:
Gigabyte rules for the freestyle competition have been clarified:
Hardware category #1 scores for each benchmark on hwbot does count
For each record you will earn 1 point, so if you get the E8500 1M, Pifast, 32M #1's then you will get 3 points.
Freestyle hardware info must be supplied to Gigabyte for review, and low end hardwares will be denied.
My apologies for passing on information that turned out to be incorrect.
oh ok
makes no sense to bench with high end hardware because of the competition
i guess we'll just have to do our best hehehe
I was finally able to track down the location of the Hondo Hotel.
For those of you who might be interested you will find it, as well as the Leofoo Hotel, in the attached Google Earth placemarks file.
thanks , what is the cost of a room per night in these hotels ?
Your best bet is to go to Trip Advisor and search for the hotel you are looking for. Then you can choose to Get Rates. A quick look at Hondo comes to USD85 for one night (for 2 adults). The hondo booking also includes a hot buffet breakfast. I'm not sure about Leofoo.
Leofoo is slightly cheaper at USD70-77. We went with Hondo in the end based on comments in this thread and positive reviews on trip advisor about the hotel.
