Will the 6850 oc to 4.0 be faster for video editing then the Q6600 oc to 3.0. All will be aircooled.
I think they will be very close to oneanother, the quad will be better on Mhz/rendering comparison if the software uses all the 4 quads to do the calculations on...
I have owned the 6850, never got 4ghz stable below 1.55 Volts, and it ran very hot for a GO : 65°C at 3.9Ghz on the cores, replaced it with a Q6600 at 3.6ghz, feels smoother in everything I do and temps are lower with the quads under WC, really funny to experience...
What were you able to oc the Q6600 to with air cooling for a semi low temp.
I've got my Q6600 @ 1.44-1.45 (can't remember what I set it to and no program can read the vcore right) at 400x9 and around 66 deg C at load (warmest core). S-Flex on the Ultra-120 eXtreme is spinning at ~1000-1100rpm. Didn't lap anything, using the provided TIM, and didn't even do the coin mod for the Ultra-120 (mine doesn't come with the plastic washer)
Meh, I bumped the voltage up to ~1.472 trying to get this OCCT stable. Still won't do it but I'm not bumping it up any more since temps are near unstable range (~71), at 68-69 in the warmest core right now. It's stable folding a few WUs with and without the room's AC unit though, so I'll leave it till I get around to tightening the HSF (even out the thermal load) and changing the TIM. If that isn't enough, guess I'll lap the HSF, CPU, or both
Quick question guys.
I ran my system through prime95 blend test and one of the cores popped an error after 5 and a half hour during the 192k test. Is this a problem with CPU or RAM? Settings as follows:
FSB:450
Multiplier: 8
Vcore: 1.4625 bios 1.44 actual
vcore reference: auto
Pll: 1.5
NB: 1.4
NB reference: auto
FSB termination: 1.3
SB: 1.05
SB reference: auto

Thanks for all the help.
First crack with this chip on stock Vapo LS, looks like my P5K3 is FSB limited but I'll work on it.

Hey guys,
I got my q6600 @ 3.6ghz running 1.31volts (cpu-z and speedfan).
My question is about my temps, cause speedfan is picking up the CPU @ 62
But the cores are only at 58.... **ive adjusted it to add the 15 degrees**, and this temp is confirmed by coretemp 0.95.4 which is reading the same.
Is my mobo cpu temp. sensor screwed???
thanks guys.
Prolly yes, I'm not claiming coretemp is 100% accurate but I always take that as a reference... cool voltage to go for 3.6ghz... you got a good one there.. we have similar issues with the Asus boards after a bios updates CPU temps rose 10 degrees after the bios update though coretemp and everest reported normal temps for the cores...
Probably correction via an upcoming bios update, I had F7 on my previous builds...

Hey Guys,
Q6600@ 3.6ghz (400 x 9)
Still o/c'in but this is current.

Gigabyte P35-DS4 bios F9. Loadline calibration enabled from bios. Working like a charm :woot:

Just got the chip recently, went straight to 3.6Ghz / 1.45v, no luck.
After an hour of messing around, just settle for 3.46 for now. Tried 5 mins OCCT stable, here's a screenie of me just loading it up a bit.
1.6 vCore (BIOS), P5K SE, Generic old DDR2-667's, Bigwater 745 all fans @ 5v
L737B687, rather disappointing, was hoping at least 3.6 stable with sweet all voltage.
see that VID? out of all the chips i've tried, lower vids = better.
See screenshot
Yeah thats right, a VID of 1.325v is about as high as I've seen so far. The Quad I am testing has a VID of 1.300v which is only slightly better but a few lucky guys here have these chips with a low VID and it seems they do get a better overclock?.
Still 3400MHz is nothing to sniff at, would like a crack at 3600MHz myself but I don't think its happening on the P5B-Deluxe?

I decided to push my L737B to the limit tonight :)
Here is the max validation I could get... 4,2Ghz kept freezing while trying to validate :(
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=289804
Cooling is a plain lapped TR Ultra-120 with a Silverstone fan at max speed :)
The voltage was set to 1,568V, but I did'nt try lower... For 4,2 GHz I tried up to 1,6V without any success...
My L739B is 3.6GHz@1.312v P95 Small FFT stable @ 450x8
But for Blend/Large FFT I need 1.33v to get it stable. Sounds strange to me ?

Found my 24/7: 4.1 @ 1.5v (real)
Q6600 L737B, Maximus Formula, Water cooled
idles around 35-38 and never tops 68c at full load (small ffts)
ran and hour of small ffts now I'm priming away on the blend test... 1 hour in
couldn't be happier :D

But they also run hotter don't they? My absolute limit seems to be 1.35V loaded with a TRUE because my temps will easily pass 70C during prime in a room that's 20C. But the good thing is mine can do 3.6GHz with 1.328V loaded (maybe less) so I'm happy with it.
